The grizzly bear trophy hunt is an issue regarding the citizens of Canada who immorally hunt and kill grizzly bears for pride, thrill, and trophy. Many people question whether this is morally acceptable as hunters kill without a conscience. Grizzly bears are vital to Canada’s environment as they are essential to maintaining a healthy ecosystem. As keystone species, they regulate prey, disperse seeds of plants,and aerate soil to maintaining forest health. Due to the vulnerability and over-hunting of grizzly bears, Pacific Wild and many other non-profit organizations, are working to protect wildlife in British Columbia, especially the grizzly bear habitat. Many hunters argue that the protectiveness towards grizzly bears is oriented more towards emotion Some researchers of the BC Raincoast Conservation Foundation have been devoted to fighting the hunt for over a decade now. Although they do signify that emotion is a part of their reason to ban hunting bears, they like to focus on the ecological and ethical aspect of the hunt. There is a big controversy over the fact that if there is sustainable number of bears in the environment and people are allowed to kill them, then why is the surplus of humans allowed to grow. Should humans be also murdered like bears? Many people who hunt the limited Grizzly Bears do it to satisfy their own “needs” of achievements. The Grizzly bear is an exclusive species that is only local to British Columbia; therefore it adds to the feeling of achievement for hunters, but it also encourages individuals, environmental organizations, and the first nations to preserve this rare species. Hunting bears is not sustainable and it’s much worth it to have them alive to promote more advantageous benefits than to have them dead with their heads on the wall to amuse people or to disturb people’s thoughts of what was once a beautiful
