The world is a growing, thriving place where more and more people are on the world than there ever was before these people are living longer and healthier because of modern medicine. Industry, businesses, and farms are expanding at an exponential rate, and they need more vehicles and more ways to transport their goods to the consumers. But because there are more people that they are living longer and our need for fuel is growing more by the day it is causing a large strain on our need for power, fuel, and ability to produce and grow food. With this new found growth, a product is needed to fuel the growth. While coal and oil are the majority in fueling our expansion, we have found new methods in being able to power our vehicles and heat our homes in bio-fuel which is much cleaner and does not have a finite amount like the fossil fuel alternatives. The most common of these Bio-fuels that we use come from corn and other crops that are typically for our food supply. But that is the problem, that it takes away from our food supply that we could be using else where such as trade or just feeding our-selves.
The alternative to food based bio-fuels, is algae based bio-fuels. Being first explored as a fuel alternative in 1978, the Aquatic Species Program by National Renewable Energy Laboratory researched the high oil output of algae. The researchers tested more than 3000 different types of algae and found that if produced in massive quantities, it could replace fossil fuels for heating homes and transportation purposes. To understand more about why the researchers chose algae for an alternate fuel source lets learn more about.

Another problem with the bio-fuel is one method of growing the algae. Open pond growing is risky as the algae can easily be contaminated and the pond it is growing in has to have carbon dioxide pumped into which, if not monitored properly, could wildly throw of the ecosystem there killing many of the inhabitants. As well as how much maintenance and care must be taken so that the algae can grow at the best rate. But bio-fuel labs have found a way around this by using closed bioreactor systems as to not risk causing any harm to the environment and to have much more control over the algae its self. But until more of the large fuel companies decide to research and develop this product, we will just have to be content on reading any new developments that occur.

There is a lot of talk about the world’s source of energy going on these days and people are starting to ask questions about our sources of energy. Is it environmentally friendly? Does it make sense economically? For years the world has been highly dependent on fossil fuels that are extracted from the ground. These fuels power things from power plants, cars, plains, and many of the other modern conveniences that we enjoy. There is a lot of energy expended in the extraction and transport of these fuels as well as many negative environmental impacts. Scientists are busy finding alternative ways to power our world that are cost efficient and ecofriendly. One idea that is being explored as an effective replacement is producing oil from algae. Algae have a high content of oil, about 50 percent of its weight, and science is finding a way to use it as a clean fuel source.
Some plants live in conditions where the spectral quality of light may be different to that received by plants living on the land. Algae which live in surface waters tend to be green and contain more or less the same pigments as land plants since they exist under similar light conditions. Algae living lower in the water receive more blue light than red because red light has a relatively long wavelength and cannot penetrate water as well as blue light which has a shorter wavelength and more energy than red light. Brown algae, which may be found deeper in the water than green algae, have combinations of pigments which enable them to
For Example, Documents B shows that the amount of algae is increasing through steps. The oligotrophic stage how the beginning of the marine life's habitat before fertilizer was used. The mesotrophic stage shows that the fertilizer is being used which is helping the soil and bacteria began to increase and algal blooms start to form. It is affecting the algae amount a little. The eutrophic stage shows the over use of the fertilizer. The algae a The amount of algae has reach its maximum amount in the water. This is because so much fertilizer has been used that it continues to run into the bodies of water. The run off of fertilizers and caused many of the sea creatures to
The name of my species is Hydrilla. The scientific name of this species is Esthwaite Waterweed. The classification is Alismatales because all plants that fall there is either aquatic or tropical. Hydrilla has really impacted our world. The Hydrilla plant may be "good" to goldfish, for the reason that they play with it, yet it can ruin anybody's life. It was brought from another country, but it really impacted people's lives and the ecosystems. Although Hydrilla was originally from warmer parts of Asia, it has spread in some parts of North America. The Hydrilla was found in Florida in 1960 due to the aquarium trade. It impacted our lives and other organisms lives because of the scarce vegetation. In the ecosystem, the hydrilla would kill many
There is only so much oil in the world though and when that is gone we need to look for alternative sources of energy. Sources like ethanol produced from Switchgrass.

Introduction:The idea of biofuels is a old concept, reaching as far as the ending of the 19th century. Solid in its idea but flawed in its presentation. Biofuels are a alternative energy to fossil fuels that are made from natural methods such as plants and crops and are key in solving the apparent flaws of fossil fuels. While fossil fuels have been in use for over a century, Biofuels have now risen to the popularity and been exposed to the press. At one point of time biofuel were being considered by some of the most brilliant minds ever in human history such as Henry Ford and Rudolph Diesel who believed that biofuels had the potential to be the new evolution s on only to reappear a century later. Now the world faces the struggles of global warming and the depletion of fossil fuels slowly dimming by day. Throughout the last century biofuels have proven to have a place in our society as a new alternative fuel source. Specializing in Being Natural and healthier than fossil fuels, biofuels have had a rough beginning against its competitor due to key situations such as pricing, Side effects, to fuel power. However the idea was passed on a to the later generations, and continued to pasand prolong usage. However through the last decade they have been highly advertised by politicians and Government officials claiming it to be the future of a powerful working society, and to help in making a new energy free world. Through belief Some even claiming that “By 2050, a new generation of sustainable biofuels could provide over a quarter of the world’s total transport fuel, according to a recent report by the International Energy Agency” (last name). With such improvement biofuels should be the obvious answer to providing a better future to th...
In conclusion, the fact that biofuel is renewable unlike other natural resources such as coal, nuclear fuels, and petroleum makes it an excellent energy solution. However, there are still several major problems that need to be fixed before biofuel is recognized universally and used on an industrial scale.
Algae were then measured using the ocular micrometer and the previously determined conversion factor was used to calculate the true algal cell size. The diameter of the cell was measured in the species Chlorella sp., Haematococcus sp., Chlamydomonas sp. The length and width of the cell were measured in Scenedesmus sp. Average cell size and the standard deviation were then calculated for each species of algae, based upon the longest dimension of the
Fuel alternatives for the future are very important because, we need resources for life. We won’t have fossil fuels forever. It is important to start now. If we did not have any fuel alternatives how would the world be?
How often also does a human use or eat algae in his daily life? When most people think of algae, they probably think of something that is slimy, gross, and dirty. Algae may irritate people because it grows in unwanted places like swimming pools and boats. Algae can be toxic and it is slimy, but algae benefits people in all aspects of life. Humans obtain algin from algae to help make ice cream, pudding, face cream, and shoe polish. Algae is present in hamburgers, yoghurt, and cakes. Algae also helps make explosives, insulation, and paint. Algae produces most of the oxygen that animals breathe and without it the world would suffocate. Also, according to Helen Challand, "It is now believed that the oil and gas formed millions of years ago in the ground were created by algae" (20).
More farmers are now planting crops for biofuel, resulting to an intense drop in food production. According to experts this promising alternative energy source is seemingly causing a global decrease of food supply. As the demand for biofuels increases, more industrialized countries are offering encouragements and subsidizing farmers to grow crops for fuel rather than for food. The biofuel production method was also anticipated to be carbon neutral, as the crops would absorb the carbon dioxide released when the biofuel was burned. However crops for fuel are now grown at such a rate that they need more energy to cultivate, grow and harvest. By the time it reaches households, it would have consumed more energy and released more greenhouse causing substances than the feared fossil fuels would have. The fact that emissions are released during production, processing, fertilizer application and as a result of land use change is highly ignored. Somehow biofuels can sidetrack less harmful and clean resources like renewable energies such as solar and wind energy. Large scale cultivation of biofuel crops, unlike small scale, locally produced and biofuel owned farms are commonly challenged by problems such as severe use of water, chemicals, fertilizers and pesticides. These also often lead to pollution, depleting and degrading available water resources which can cause famines. According to contrary believe of analysts, it has also shown that there is not enough farming land on earth to produce biofuel crops to meet the huge energy needs encouraged by our current and unmaintainable ways of living. http://www.greenerideal.com/science/0516-biofuels/ &
With the depletion of fossil fuel resources comes speculations and debates about alternative energy sources. The world, including the Philippines, is practically dependent on a dwindling non-renewable source of energy. Today, experts are debating about and considering three options: Nuclear, Solar, or Wind Energy. Everyone has been accustomed to the bad image of nuclear energy as a result of the Chernobyl and Fukushima incidents above all others. The popular belief is that radiation from a nuclear meltdown is very harmful to humans and other living things—which is true—and that nuclear power plants are very dangerous and not ideal—which is not. According to Smith, et. al (n.d), all the nuclear disasters that ever occurred were caused by human error and natural disasters like tsunamis, not one because of system failure. Putting the false beliefs aside, with proper engineering and adequate maintenance by experts, a nuclear power plant is a very ideal and viable source of energy for the following reasons:
