I know that my opportunities for growth are amplified when I have access to the most challenging material and when I am surrounded by the most productive people. Having worked in Microbiology Lab and conducting research in Biochemistry Lab, I have built the most solid credentials available to benefit from the undergraduate research programs. I am eager to explore new skills to help to discover ways to treat and cure diseases. I would be thrilled to spend a summer working side-by-side with some of the most talented scientists in the world in an environment devoted exclusively to biomedical research. I would love the opportunity to learn the latest innovative research, tools, techniques, and applications used by leading scientific institutes …show more content…
Being an immigrant and single mother with income and property below State maximum limits for my family size, I receive financial assistance and Food Stamp benefits through CalWORKs (California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids) to meet the basic needs, get education, job, and move towards self-sufficiency. Very rarely one finds himself at the pinnacle of achievement by happenstance or good fortune, or by “winging it”. To succeed in life, one must set a goal, plan his route to obtain the said goal, and take the initiative to achieve it. The optimal route for me is to reflect upon the idea and create a goal. Having done this will help me to see the opportunities and obstacles that lie ahead and afterwards to see whether to effectively capitalize on them or just avoid them. Aiming to succeed in this fashion will ensure at least a valiant effort, and most likely a success. The actual challenge is to go out and follow through with it. An archer who wishes to hit a target has to set his sights on his stoic victim. He must then calculate what he must do and how to negotiate potential obstacles. Finally, he must attempt to hit his target. If he would not even try, it would be impossible to hit anything. My goal is to leverage and utilize my knowledge as much as I can, and to be able to have a part in
By making improvements to the Welfare System in America has become a way of life that has entrapped so many single and married households across the country. Statistics show that there were 108,592,000 people who are recipients of one or more means of the government benefit programs. The Census Bureau recorded by surveys over 101, 716,000 people who worked full time year around in 2011 which only allowed one member of the family to work year round. The system is meant to help low income families, however; they don’t want to be not allowed to grow by becoming more independent and have opportunities to rise above poverty. The quest to change the welfare system is to ensure the welfare and the rights of children, their parents and taxpayers are not ignored. Programs have been developed to ensure welfare recipients are employable and retained. These programs are in the forms of training, workshops, and education, as well as other services that will provide support as well as pride and self-sufficiency.
I hope this summer program will help me get a better feel for what research outside of the classroom is like. I wish to do research in college and in the future, so I hope that this summer program will give me experience for my future research endeavors. Being able to learn new things that stretch my mind is my passion, and being able to do research at this summer program would really help me grow as a person. Please give me this chance experience a wonderful and educational summer.
From families looking to flee harsh living conditions in their native country to American citizens wishing to escape impoverished conditions through hard work and determination, the “American Dream” is a concept that people throughout the world have aspired to achieve for hundreds of years. Regardless of birthplace or socioeconomic status, the “American Dream” promises success, prosperity and upward mobility to any citizen with ambition and work ethic. Hundreds of millions of American citizens as well as immigrants have flourished in the United States throughout the course of history in a society with a thriving middle-class. However, in recent years, this dream has become increasingly difficult to achieve for those who are not already wealthy.

As a food science major with an interest in nutritional sciences the regulation of lipid synthesis would be a comprehensive topic that would allow me to develop my research abilities in a setting applicable to both my major and my interests. Using molecular biology and chemical processes, assisting in determining what mechanism is used to how phosphorylated PA phosphatase would allow me to learn both new lab techniques and new concepts in the fields of microbiology and biochemistry. My interests in food science have always been with either food microbiology or food chemistry with some interest in sensory science. I hope to explore all of these fields of food science during my time here at Rutgers to aid me in finding what I love to do. Along
S-PREP is a once in lifetime opportunity that helps to prepare those that want to pursue a career in medicine, science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. One of the greatest benefits of this program is that this all done before going to college. What caught my interest about this program is that this is the first program that was mentioned to me that had courses in neuroscience. During my Junior year at Hayes, I gained the opportunity to attend a science symposium at Iona College. It was thanks to my current AP Chemistry teacher, Brother Robert Chiulli, that I learned from the symposium that there are various fields in science. Neuroscience and nanotechnology caught my interest, considering that they sparked my long forgotten curiosity.
Neuroscience at Tulane is home to not only interesting and unique classes, but the program has an incredible research department. I am so excited to join in on research at the University and study under one of Tulane’s many bright professors. The modern, high-tech labs and facilities at Tulane will allow me to expand my laboratory skills from the Health and Medicine Magnet. The specific Neuroscience research at Tulane is intriguing because it allows me to directly apply knowledge from class to hands-on work in the lab. I am excited to take part in Tulane’s current research around Oncology and T-Cells because hopefully, I can do my part in helping Tulane make scientific breakthroughs that will save lives.
I am currently a junior at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. I am majoring in both Chemistry: Health Sciences and Biology: Cell and Molecular track with a minor in marine science. Due to the University of Hawaii at Hilo’s small size, they are able to offer great, hands on labs that allow us to learn several crucial skills that will be necessary later on in both our academic and career goals. While these labs have taught me a lot, I want to further expand these skills. The NIH summer internship program will give me the opportunity I need in order to get more knowledge in the science field.
People struggle to find a job that pays enough but often times people are making just over the mark for them to be eligible for food stamps yet they still do not have enough money to provide for their family. Barbie, a woman who shared her story, opened up and told us that she grew up in a family that never knew where their next meal would be coming from. She shared that she never wanted to put her children in that same situation but she has no choice. She struggles to be able to tell her children that she will provide them with a fresh cooked meal. Barbie shared that she wants to and plans to go to college but she feels that she cannot because she must find money now and cannot take a pause for two years while she goes to get an education.
As an undergraduate biomedical scientist at the federal university of my state, one of my greatest desires is to achieve all my academic goals and graduate with excellence in the career that I have chosen to follow. Since the beginning, I always have conducted my studies aiming to reach a high quality pattern as a student, enrolled in all academic experience that university could offer, including extracurricular activities and internship opportunities. Now, as a senior student, all my principal goals remains the same but much more focused on pursuing an academic career and trace new ambitions for my professional life as a scientific researcher. Furthermore, I want to be a professional capable to perform great biomedical researches and contribute in an innovative way to scientific community, expecting that all efforts will have impact on other people’s life care one day.
I remember initially feeling overwhelmed with the complexity of the topic; however, once I began to understand the research, I felt fortunate to be a part of it. My experience at Oakland taught me that hands-on operations suit my learning approach, and for this reason, I want to contribute to the Penn research community. This thriving network of students and teachers is committed to research and interactive learning—just as I am. Moreover, my research experience gives me the tools to successfully navigate through my own research project in the individualized major program. Rarely are students afforded these types of opportunities to exhibit independence and creativity; at Penn, I intend to bridge the biology and chemistry disciplines to craft an original, innovative research
For as long as I can remember I’ve known what I wanted to do with my life. Science has always been a passion of mine, and laboratory medicine in particular has interested me for some time. Dedicating my life to improving the lives of others through scientific work is very appealing to me. After high school, I joined the Medical Research Council in April 2012 as an X-Ray Assistant, but later due to my interest in biomedical sciences and with the aim of becoming a biomedical scientist I decided to join the Laboratory Team as a laboratory technician for the COSMIC project on malaria. Since joining the lab I have always thought of Ways and means to upgrade my skills in biomedical Sciences professionally in order to serve the unit and the people more efficiently and later along the way this opportunity to pursue distance learning program on biomedical at the university of Westminster was advertised and suddenly I realise this was the perfect opportunity I was looking for, and I wasted no time in applying for the course and considered myself lucky to be part of the selected candidates to pursue the course for The year 2014/2015.
Personal Statement Adaptation: one of the most important characteristics of an evolving pathogen, and also one of the most valuable skills I learned from constant travel between countries and regions. As the daughter of a military pilot, moving into new “homes” every three to four years inevitably made education an uphill climb, but rich and unique global experiences forged a deep-seated drive to think and act on the level of international communities. Like flint against steel, this innate urge to inspire population-wide changes, combined with an insatiable curiosity for the microbial universe, sparked a passionate motivation to explore health and infectious diseases since undergraduate years. Just as the success of a microbe relies on its ability to constantly adapt for its ultimate goal of survival and spread, my journey in public
With the intention to aim an objective, we must have perseverance to not give up. This persistent determination will ultimately untie the difficult knot and certainly
Without the first step, nothing can be achieved. Full preparation and well organized make the target possible to grab, and it has to start from this day forwards. I have to set my mind and stay focused. Now it is the time to start and not looking back. I am the best and I lead the rest.
