As an undergraduate biomedical scientist at the federal university of my state, one of my greatest desires is to achieve all my academic goals and graduate with excellence in the career that I have chosen to follow. Since the beginning, I always have conducted my studies aiming to reach a high quality pattern as a student, enrolled in all academic experience that university could offer, including extracurricular activities and internship opportunities.
Now, as a senior student, all my principal goals remains the same but much more focused on pursuing an academic career and trace new ambitions for my professional life as a scientific researcher. Furthermore, I want to be a professional capable to perform great biomedical researches and contribute in an innovative way to scientific community, expecting that all efforts will have impact on other people’s life care one day.
In the course of my academic studies, I started learning all mainly fundamental fields on cellular and molecular level to better understand all basic processes that constitute human life and only then explore deeply other specific areas like hematology, microbiology and genetics. Through this, I gained multiple theoretical and practical experiences which I consider to be an essential requirement to

Later, I had an opportunity to develop scientific research and work as a part-time scholarship student in the field, investigating biochemical pathways involved on central nervous system. The first project that I have worked consisted in observe if nitrergic system was involved in the release of Glutamate induced by NGF (Nerve Growth Factor) in chick embryo retina tissue culture. Now, in another research line, I investigate alternative therapeutic strategies against ischemia in the same model, testing natural oils and extracts from Amazon
I believe each one of us is gifted with a certain potential, and we are trimmed and molded accordingly by the tribulations of time until we reach our goal. Julia Roberts is an actress, Ronaldo a soccer player, and I am a doctor. What separates me from them is that, they have mastered the art, which in essence fulfills their destiny while I still soldier on with hard work in hand, and ambition right ahead. A wise man once said ‘Success is a journey, not a destination. Have faith in your ability rest will be just fine’. Inspired by my mentor at Shifa Clinical Research Center Islamabad, who I credit for my understanding of the sublime nature and cause of the term ‘research’, I wish to be on board as faculty at the institution in
Born and raised by parents working in the medical field, I have always had the urge to follow up on on a health related career. Despite never being pressured into choosing scientific subjects as my academic studies, I deeply admired what a long way science has come and longed to give my contribution to this fascinating world. I am presently studying for my A-levels at St.Aloysius Sixth form in Malta, a college for high achievers.
My small and humble town did not afford me the opportunities to investigate the many questions I had. It was when I had received acceptance into UCLA, I knew I held a golden key. I saw my first laboratory here at UCLA and it was not long before I applied for the Biomedical Research Minor in an effort to dive headfirst and start working in one. Last year, I worked under Professor Utpal Banerjee in the Department of Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology studying and elucidating a novel immunity independent inflammatory...
The book that I read in class is called Romeo and Juliet the book was made by William Shakespeare. The character that I picked to talk about is Romeo, since Romeo is young he can be really impulsive when it comes to making a right decision or knowing how to act on a situation. This is what Romeo encounters throughout the story and doesn’t know how to handle the situations he comes across .Romeo’s choices is what leads him to a bad ending in Romeo and Juliet.
I am also a driven student who possess a strong work ethic and self-motivation that helps me achieve my goals. Through these opportunities, I have cohesively worked with members of an intermediate and an extended team to support ideas, think critically, and solve problems. I am passionate about expanding my knowledge in research relating to psychology and medicine. Throughout my collegiate career, I have been primarily focused on my academics.
Oftentimes when we are children, we dream of what we would like to be when we are adults. Some of us dream of becoming famous, others dream of careers that represent honor and prestige. Interestingly enough, at such a young most of us never consider the journey a career will require us to endure. Take becoming a neurologist for example; one could argue numerous ways of attaining such a position. It is a fact, however, that in the pursuit of a medical degree, the combination of major and minor during one’s undergraduate years is key in the future success of an aspiring student. In light of this, the most ideal major and minor combination, in order to become a neurologist, is a major of biology with a minor of chemistry.
My long term career goals include the pursuit of research in the field of Bioinformatics and teaching in an academic environment. I have found that a career in research is both intellectually stimulating and satisfying and hence I have decided to take this up as my career objective.
I am Fasiha Abdul Rehman, holding a professional degree of Doctor of Pharmacy at 23 years of age; with a deeper interest in contributing to the understanding of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases and unveiling new information for medical advancement and betterment of mankind and I envisage Masters as crucial step in this direction.
Personal Statement “As a well-spent day brings happy sleep, so life well-used brings happy death”, quoted from Leonardo da Vinci’s will, is my motto since I entered the Second Military Medical University. His remark always reminds me to live life to the fullest and engage in basic medical research which has fascinated me a lot since I was a little child. When I was only 6 years old, my father, a researcher in molecular biology, often brought me to his laboratory and I was deeply impressed by the advanced equipment which aroused my curiosity. After having grown up, I was always touched by my father’s attitude towards research because he often stayed up late at night in the lab even though he had already been a chief director of the department.
When it comes to working in a stressful environment while maintaining efficient, human, and profession-al conduct, I’m highly competent. In addition, my communication skills are sharp, as is my abil-ity to retain information and remember people. Thanks to my schooling and my keen interest in the industry, my research skills will keep my knowledge of the industry and practices up-to-date. In fact, taking in new material is a joy. The Clinical laboratory science field is vast and ever-changing, something I’m both excited and prepared to deal with. For this reason, I intend to re-main on top of advances in the field.
Because cells are the ‘basic unit of life’, the study of cells, cytology, can be considered one of the most important areas of biological research. Almost every day on the evening news, we are told about new discoveries in cell biology, such as cancer research, cloning, and embryology. I am writing to state my intention of applying for the Master of Biotechnology at the University of Toronto Mississauga for May 2016 year. My interest in biology began as a child who could never seem to stop catching amphibians, snakes and bottling snails on my grandfather’s farm. Public speaking was also a trait that I excelled at as an elementary student, placing multiple times in my school, and almost making it to regional competitions on more than a single occasion. It was an easy decision for me to transition into bachelors of biomedical sciences at York University, which I will finish in April of this year, but I always knew I had more to express within myself and do for the world.
My main science and math academic goals at the moment is to explore and expand my love for the science and math. Throughout my childhood, I have always been interested in the science and math fields of academic study due to their invigorating nature. As a sophomore and freshman, I realized I had a passion specifically for the biological sciences since life and its processes are so complex and intricate. I never grow tired of learning the complexities and inner workings of all forms of life from substantial creatures such as humans to microscopic animals such as ants. Also in high school, I realized that I reveled in performing activities in the laboratory.
It is the natural human instinct to explain the world around us. Science is a tool to assess and initiate my world and things beyond it. It allows me to be in control because understanding gives me the power to betake myself and seize my potential. I take opportunities to further my education, and unlocking my potential in my areas of fascination, by taking classes over the summer and doing science competitions such as Quiz Bowl, as well as studying different topics based on my scientific interests. Through these demonstrations of scientific enterprise, I have faced and harnessed my competitiveness and how to equilibrise.
The enigma of life and the mystery of living organisms have always fascinated me. The persistent developments in the field of Biotechnology have opened up growth opportunities that are beneficial to the individual as well as the society. The perfect combination of theory and practical knowledge is required to succeed in this field. I want to be an element of innovation in this field, which is creating a better tomorrow for everyone. To do this, I need to prepare myself with mandatory knowledge that only a Masters' program can provide. I envision your university as the right stepping stone to pursue my dreams and achieve my career goals. Having been brought up in a strong and secure family, my parents have inculcated good values and principles in me. My parents’ support has always motivated me to reach my goals. Being from a family where both my parents' are highly educated and my father having done his Doctorate in Botany has always inspired me to pursue my ultimate goal of being a researcher, either in industry or in academia in this field. In the coming years, I visualize myself as a researcher or as a faculty member in one of the leading universities in the United States. I strongly believe that a Masters Degree in Biotechnology from your prestigious University will act as a crucial first step in the process of realizing my career objectives.
