Ever since I was little I wanted to be a doctor. I used to chase my brother around the house with a stethoscope basically forcing him to play with me. This year I decided to take anatomy to get an insight of the medical field. Sitting in class and learning about the heart, muscles, and the bones of the human body fascinated me. It was mesmerizing to know how many factors go into taking a breath or a step. Taking anatomy helped reinforce my desire for becoming a doctor. Which is why I have decided to further my education by earning a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Colorado Boulder. Biochemistry covers topics from general chemistry to physics, to general biology that will help me gain a better understanding of how …show more content…
At the Boys and Girls Club, I helped children increase their reading level by helping them read books that challenged their thinking and helped them expand their imaginations. The Boys and Girls Club taught me to be understanding and patient. It helped become a passionate leader and it also taught me the deep impact volunteering can have on my community. I knew that when I transitioned into college I wanted to contribute to the community in the same manner. The University of Colorado Boulder offers extracurricular activities that will allow me to be directly involved with the community. Organizations like Saint Jude at CU a program that allows students to fundraise money so that families have access to travel, treatment, housing, and food while they are in the hospital. Participating in this program will allow me to help families that are going through a difficult situation and facilitating the process by fundraising and volunteering my time. It is important for me to be involved in extracurricular activities in college because my community has given me the opportunity to pursue my dream of becoming a doctor and it is my turn to give back to my
When my first grade teacher asked me what I wanted to be in the future I told her, “I want to be a doctor.” My answer stayed exactly the same when my eleventh grade English teacher asked the question. Ever since I was little science has always captured my interest. I was fascinated by the way our body worked and how everything had an explanation behind it.
My extracurricular activities and groups that I belong to fall into the two main areas of my life that I am passionate about: community service and technology/science. I have always wanted to give back to my community because it is the community that has enabled me to be fortunate enough to have opportunities such as these where I can contribute, learn, and grow as a young adult. I have pursued a number of organizations devoted towards giving back and servicing my local community. Those organizations include: Boy Scouts of America, SMYLE youth group (Saint Margaret's Church), and Peer Advocates (Madison Youth and Family Services). The DHHS Tech Club, and the DHHS Hacking Club are the two main technology organizations that I take part in and also have active leadership roles in.
I feel that the Biomedical Academy would be a great addition to my education. As a current eighth grader, I am becoming more active in making decisions about my future, and after exploring all options, I have decided that the Academy would definitely be a great place for me to further my education.
My grandma and her difficulties moved my attraction to health sciences. Once I found my career I was totally engrossed in my studies. I seriously enjoyed the health sciences. It is not always the figures but the learning’s, the experiences that matter. I loved kinesiology; this field of health sciences attached me with the people.
The career I chose is sports medicine. Sports medicine is a career based on helping those injured whether they are an athlete or a 23-year-old in a car accident. After doing some research on which career is best for me, I chose sports medicine because I have a fascination with helping those that may be hurt, out of shape, or in rehab and need to get back on their feet. Sports medicine has always been my dream job because it fills that desire for me to help those that are injured, allowing me to expand into different branches to provide assistance to those recovering; also providing an income that I will be able to live comfortably.
Since second semester of sophomore year, I have the privilege of participating in my schools National Honor Society. Every month we have a meeting and, by the end of the year we are expected to have thirty hours of community service accomplished. Along with NHS, I attended a couple School Leadership meetings, but reluctantly had to stopped due to my schedule. Both junior and senior year i have participated in the club Business Professionals of America were I held parliamentarian junior year and secretary senior year.
The medical field is my choice because I find the human body endlessly interesting. I so enjoyed the anatomy course I took in my junior year of high school that I plan on recreationally reading the entire textbook again. The design of the body, the intricacy of one tiny cell, yet how all these cells work together so flawlessly to create organs and organ systems, it’s all absolutely fascinating to me. If that isn't reason enough to consider medicine, it offers the opportunity to help people heal. To encounter a person
In my high school, I am a member of the National Honor Society, which is a service organization dedicated to giving back to the community in a multitude of ways. I have had the privilege of being in this organization for two years, which has allowed me to experience a wide variety of community service opportunities.
I am currently in National Honor Society, Drug Free Club of America and in the Service Learning program at HHS. In Service Learning, I travel to a service site every Tuesday and Wednesday during the school week. I have also been interacting with communities that were unknown to me before. For example, I volunteered at a low-income apartment complex in Cuyahoga Falls, sorting food cans for the
Ever since I can remember I wanted to be in the medical field. It started off as an ambulance driver than a predication to now a family nurse practitioner. There are many reasons for me wanting to be all three of these but the one reason that is within all of them is the fact that I would not only get to care for people who are in a vulnerable state but also to have a chance to make an impact on their life. I am lucky that God has showed me that nursing is what I want to do at an early age because now I can put my whole heart into doing something that I know I am supposed to be doing and something that I love.
I have always been good at biology and mathematics. This is one reason why one of my many goals is to major in biomedical engineering. I am very excited to start studying biomedical sciences, and hope to use my newly learned skills in the medical field. Achieving a college education in such field will pave the road for my future career, by teaching and instilling knowledge that would not have been learned otherwise.
I have been involved in the American Cancer Society for five years. My team, Team Hoot has raised funds for cancer as well as participating in Relay for Life each year. This year, I will be on the board committee at Relay; giving back to the survivors. This organization is one that I always promote and give back to. Also being involved in Relay for Life this year, National Honors Society is a club that helps the community. Being on the executive board, I correlate new service projects as well as corresponding with the Lee County National Honor Society chapter. Also, I am forming a new club at North Fort Myers High, Red Cross Club. Being president, Red Cross helps donates funds back to the American Red Cross. This year we are planning to donate materials for our troops as well as materials for individuals in disaster situations. Giving back to the community is very important to me. Being passionate about making a difference is a drive that I always
I have always been intrigued by the field of science and that is the reason I pursued the field of Biochemistry for my undergraduate studies. How The Human body works and the different determinants that can affect one's health or a community as a whole have always been captivating to me. I wanted to emerge in a profession that is beneficial for me, my community, and the world I live in. I came to realize through various science courses and health care experiences that a career in health care was the best path for me to outreach my community and the world.
As a child I had always been interested in medicine and the medical world. My passion of learning about the human body started when I was younger. I encountered many health problems throughout my toddler years. I looked up to the doctors and medical staff around me and continue to look up to them, they were and are still my heros. That is why my goal in life is to become a general surgeon. I want to be able to save many lives since it is possible now to do so now.
Biochemistry is in a lot of fields and almost in every area in our life. But what is important here is HealthCare system; biochemists work in private industry, large hospitals, and medical centers. Some new improvements in biochemistry have commercial applications, especially in the growing genetic building field (Biochemist Job Description, 2014). “Increased public awareness and interest in preserving the environment and finding cures for such diseases as AIDS, cancer, and heart disease” (Biochemist Job Description, 2014). All of these are health related jobs that biochemists are involved in and showing how biochemistry is integrities with healthcare system.
