How Bill Gates Changed the World When people hear the name Bill Gates they instantly think of one of the richest men in the world, but how did he become one of the richest men in the world? Bill Gates is a business leader, entrepreneur, and philanthropist who founded Microsoft, a computer program system which is used in about ninety-percent of computers today. In 1973, Gates enrolled into Harvard College where he met Paul Allen and the became great friends over there compassion for computers. The first thing Bill Gates did on his way to changing the world is developing a computer program that he a Paul Allen called “Traf-o-Data”. over his competitors. In November 1980, a company called IMB, approached Gates to have him create a new software program for their portable computer the PC. This software was called Microsoft . Bill Gates licensed this software. Microsoft later developed another software called Softcard, which allows the MicroSoft software to be used in apple computers. In 1986, Gates took Microsoft to the public he offered 21 dollars per share and he kept 45 percent of the company. Revenue quadrupled from 4 million to 16 million.

Horatio Gates was born on July 26th, 1727 in Maldon, England. A military man from a young age, he served as a lieutenant in the British Army and then later served as a captain during the French and Indian War, where he fought in the North American campaign. Though he would return to his native England following the conclusion of the war, he sympathized with the restive colonial protests against the British government in the following years resulting from the high taxes imposed on the colonies to pay for their defense. Gates eventually moved to Virginia in 1772 not long before the break out of the American Revolutionary War, where he was appointed an officer in the Continental Army.
