My goals in music are striking for consistency to become a great percussion player and have many doors open that will give me the opportunity to become the ultimate musician and performer. My biggest dream is to march in the Santa Clara Vanguard drum and bugle corps they are located in Santa Clarita California and they have one of the best percussion ensembles in the world. Furthermore, I’ve taken part of the united long horn band for three years and it has taught me marching skills,

The marching bands set the structure for Drumline a movie around a talented, yet cocky adolescent drummer who understands that it takes more than ability to succeed. One of the biggest decisions of my high school career came my sophomore year when I decided to try out for the role of drum major in my high school band. This decision was very tough to make due to the fact that I was a sophomore, and although I already had three years of experience under my belt as a band member at Northview High School, I knew that it would be very tough to earn the respect of my peers if I succeeded in becoming drum major. Out of the three years I had spent in the band, the biggest influence on my decision to try out came from my very first marching season, between August and December of 2012. From that year forward, after seeing many areas that the band could improve, watching how underclassmen and middle school band members
If one were to look back into the world’s history, one would find that an important and consistent element is the world of music. Music has presented itself in various forms throughout its spread and through our identification of its magical realm, people have been fortunate enough to come across a means of relation. Where I learned how to become a leader through the leadership ensemble within the marching band. Where in my senior and fourth year of marching competitively, I became the Drum Major, and earned the Best Drum Major Award at the Roxbury Marching Band Classic Competition. From marching band I progressed into jazz music, where I became the lead alto saxophonist in the top jazz band at my school during my junior and senior year. I was also one of three saxophonists in the top band at my school. I picked up the clarinet, the flute, and the soprano saxophone on my way through high school, and have played all three as well in my performing ensembles. I played in the pit orchestra of the theater production of “All Shook Up”, and was the principal saxophonist at my high school. Too be short, I am very involved in all things music in the past and currently. Band and music have been a place for me to rely on, something that brings me joy when sad. Allows me to express myself through sounds and through instruments. It is truly a talent and a hobby that I hope to continue through college and through life because of the joy it brought me and creative outlet it was throughout my

Music has been around since the very beginning of time. The human body flows in a rhythmic syncopation. Music is used to change one’s mood and to inspire those who open their minds. It has the potential to cure diseases such as Parkinson’s disease. Humans, of every culture and society, function with a type of rhythmic music. As humans, we are hard wired to respond to music (Mannes). The human brain responds to music in such a way that the brain becomes more open to new rhythms, ideas, and values. Music has the power to take over the human body. This makes it easier to overcome conflict and change the ideals of somebody while using music (The Power of Music).
Percussion has evolved from a small category to a wide variety of simple and technical instruments. Percussion is a category of musical instruments that is played using the hands or with a handheld stick/beater. Percussion started thousands of years ago when people played rhythms on random objects to please their friends and scare their enemy’s. People over the years discovered different ways to hit the objects.
Upon learning the position of Drum Major has an opening, I did not immediately consider pursuing it. Simply being able to play my instrument in band was enjoyment enough, or so I thought. Pondering the idea more thoroughly, I came upon the realization of all that I could accomplish musically holding the position of Drum Major. I realize that this opportunity has many potential benefits in regards to my future. Being Drum Major would allow me the opportunity to hold a broader leadership position in the band than my currently held position as section leader.
Drumline was a very interesting movie. It follows the story of Devon, who has a talent for drumming. Right after graduating, he enrolls into a school that is famous for its marching band. There, both his character and musical talent are tested. For Devon, drumming is much more than just a hobby, and Drumline taught me exactly how much more music can be.
Music is one of the most fantastical forms of entertainment. Its history stretches all the way from the primitive polyrhythmic drums in Africa to our modern day pop music we listen to on our phones. It has the ability to amaze us, to capture our attention and leave us in awe. It soothes the hearts of billions, and it is so deeply rooted in my life that it has touched my heart as well. Everyday I walk to the beat of the song stuck in my head and hum along to the melody. For me, to listen to music be lifted into the air by the hands of your imagination and float around for a while. You forget about your worries, your troubles and find peace within the sound. Every chapter in my life is attached with a song. Every time I listen to a certain song, thoughts of my past come flooding back
What does music mean to you? Music is something that has been around for many years. It started out as just some drums and a few instruments, but has changed a lot over time. The dictionary defines music as “an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.” When I think of music I think of it has a story combined with instrumental sounds. Over the years, it has changed so much, some for the good and the bad. There are many different types of music and different emotions it will bring.

Knowing our personal aesthetic is not only important, but also very helpful for other people. If we don't understand what inspires us, calms us down, or thrills us, how should we expect people surrounding us to know that. Sometime learning about ourself what we like and dislike can make us realize that we are in closed box, and that we should learn and experience new things. When I sat down and started to thing about what I find beautiful, or what moves me, what matters to me, I realized I have never even think about stuff like that before. I did realize I am oping my mind and letting new things in with curiosity.

As an ethnomusicologist, I would go to the island of Jamaica. I picked Jamaica because I have always wanted to go there and experience the culture as well as the people. In Jamaica, they have several types of music that people could listen to. According to Jamaican Music - An Introductory Guide, “Some of the other styles of Jamaican music include Dub, Dancehall, Political Reggae, Reggae Pop, Rocksteady, Roots Reggae and Ska.” If I went to Jamaica, I would study Reggae.
