The four factors that contribute to challenging the viability of the Bering land bridge theory is that the first americans did not cross the bering land bridge at all but cross the atlantic ocean by using boats. Another factor is the striking resemblance between the cultures of South America, Southeast Asia, and Australia. The discovery of the archeological site in Monte verde, chile, dates back to 14, 500 years ago which is a full millennium older that the previously thought of the first people challenges the viability of the theory.
Analyze Beveridge’s language for evidence of his understanding of race and its role in defining civilization. How does he define the mission of our race?
In Discovery Horwitz starts his journey in Vinland trying to find clues about first contact. Horwitz creates a comprehensive look into Vinland and its reasons for failure as he experiences the climate and the ancestors of those that once inhabited the land. Similar to his approach to the rest of his trip he also does his own research to give a clear view of the topic, in this case first contact. In Vinland, or what is now called Newfoundland Horwitz examines where the first Europeans set foot in the American continents. In Newfoundland Horwitz see the aboriginals of the area and how they were affected by the Europeans and how they are still fighting to hold onto their culture. Horwitz nexts bridges the topic of Christopher Columbus and his “discovery” of America. In his examination of Columbus debunks many myths that surround him, for example many think of Columbus as a conquistador or a leader but he was more of a seaman, as Horwitz says “Columbus also failed as a colonial administrator because he never really wanted the job. He was a seaman, not a landsman: a fish out of water whenever he went ashore.” Horwitz’s next Columbus based trip brings him to modern day Dominican Republic which was formerly Santo Domingo. Here the tension between Spanish and natives still exists as the Spanish claim Columbus’ remains are buried there while those in the Dominican Republic believe

There are so many theories out there as to how the Americas were first settled, but the Clovis First theory seems to be the most plausible. The Bering Strait and Bering Land Bridge, Beringia, play a major part in the Clovis First theory. Although most of present-day Canada and United States was covered in sheets of ice at the time of the Clovis people’s migration, Beringia was an “ice-free corridor,” which made it possible for them to travel through North America (The First Settlers Arrive in South America). The Clovis First theory was first developed because a numerous amount of distinctive spear points were discovered in Clovis, New Mexico in 1929.

Without intention, in 1492 Christopher Columbus initiated an event that is perhaps the most important historical turning point in modern times to the American Continents. . “For thousands of years before 1492, human societies in America had developed in isolation from the rest of the world. ”(P. 4) Christopher Columbus and other European voyagers ended all this beginning in 1492 as they searched for treasure and attempted to spread Christianity. For the first time, people from Europe, Africa, and the Americas were in regular contact. Columbus was searching for one thing and discovered something entirely different.
This uncovering of Lucy was very fascinating and answered many questions to our human evolution. The search for human ancestry has been ongoing for the past century since the publication of Charles Darwin’s “Origins of the Species”. As more evidence about the ‘branches’ of the evolutionary tree of many distinct animals and species, researchers were able to think of better hypotheses about humans’ ancestors. This scientific hard effort, involving researchers from many variety of fields from Evolutionary Biology to Paleontology. As many pieces of the puzzles were revealed, so grows the great knowledge about the history of life on our planet.

During the 1930’s, proof of a culture predating any other known at the time in the Americas was discovered. This culture was dubbed the Clovis culture, after the site’s location in Clovis, New Mexico, and existed about 11,000 years ago. Since then, there has been numerous sites found that contain evidence of people in America before Clovis, and they are known as the pre-Clovis culture. The existence of a pre-Clovis culture is still highly debated, with people sticking to the Clovis model of population, but there is a profusion of evidence that suggests the people of the Clovis culture were not the first ones to occupy the Americas.
Friendship can be shown through the words of anyone in any form, whether it is short or long, in a simple poem to a complicated novel, even in a simple common book such as, Bridge to Terabithia. The author, Paterson, uses many of reasonable literary elements in her book, such elements encompass: character, plot, setting, theme, style, point of view, and tone. These seven elements show us that friendship between the main characters, Jesse and Leslie, in Bridge to Terabithia, although interrupted by many everyday occurrences, can develop quickly, without one's realization. And that friendship, that was suddenly started, can be suddenly gone with the least suspected. In this instance, friendship is suddenly ended, there would be the realization of feelings that maybe there was something more then friendship; something not initially felt when the friendship actually once existed.
The Bridge on the Drina a Nobel Prize winning novel, distinctively depicts the agony and suffering that individuals of Bosnia experienced throughout the late sixteenth century to World War I. An extraordinary bridge, that compasses generations and nationalities and assumes the focal point throughout the novel, was constructed hundreds of years ago when a ten-year-old Christian kid who was captured grows up to be Grand Vizier Mehmed-paša Sokolović. The bridge is a witness to incalculable stories of bliss and suffering that occurred upon it. Throughout the novel, the aspect of intimidation on individual and the society is encountered. The practice of Devshirme where young boys are taken away from their parents and the merciless killing of local people terrify the Bosnian people. Thus, this paper particularly examines the fear and suffering that Bosnians experienced.
Our home (the earth) contains many interesting features and activities which makes many interested individuals seek research, explanations, and answers. With a curious mind and years of research many different people have been able to explain and even answer many of the earth’s mysteries. It is a shame that many brilliant minds have died before sharing their discoveries or reaching the answer of their life long work. With a lack of technology and evidence many great ideas have been rejected and ignored.
The oldest remains of human civilization within the Peninsula have been found in the Pradera de San Isidro, near the Manzanares; "in the cave of Perneras. It is thought that not one but two races inhabited the Peninsula." (Rafael 7) At a later date also deemed undeterminable, the Cromagnon population then inhabited the entire land now understood as Spain. Traces of their community appear in the form of weapons, stone tools, primitive types of sculpture and ornamented items such as garments. These could be the earliest signs of complexity within the evolving society. Skulls have also been traced to this period showing distinctive characteristics that are only relative to this early era. As civilizations continued to develop in the Iberian Peninsula, not much history is being recorded by other means than small items that have survived time. Gradual improvements within human technologies are seen through examples of methods of craft and building technique. "Stones are polished instead of merely shaping- was the first thing noticed in this culture." (Rafael 9) Interest in mysteries of life are shown with megalithic monuments which "seem to have a conception original to Spanish civilization, for the monuments of this type found in Southern Europe are from a ...
In 1971 a group of people was found that created a huge dispute between scientists. On June 4, 1971 are group of primitive men, women, and children were discovered. By many people it was believed that these people could help us understand more about our past. However there were also many people who believed that the Tasaday were a hoax. The Tasaday are a tribe that have inspired much controversy over the years and are probably a hoax.
