Benito was a large believer in Fascism. He was also an Italian politician, and he led the National Fascist Party. His date of birth is July 29, 1883, and was born in Predappio, Italy. Mussolini had a very interesting life and family, along with also having a large role in World War 2. To begin with, Mussolini rose to power near the beginning of World War 1 as a leading proponent of Fascism. After World War 1, he became the 40th Prime Minister of Italy in 1922. After World War 1, Mussolini decided it was his destiny to rule Italy as a modern Caesar and recreate the Roman Empire. Benito was the eldest of three children. His father’s name was Alessandro Mussolini. His mother’s name was Rosa Maltoni. Benito’s father’s occupation was a blacksmith and his mothers was a schoolteacher and she was also a Catholic. An article explains that his father established in him a passion for socialist politics and disobedience towards authority, (Biography.com Editors). Benito was expelled from many schools for bullying and defying school authorities but he was still given a teaching certificate in 1901. He worked as a schoolmaster for a short amount of time. Later, Mussolini while engaging in political demonstrations, caught the attention of Swiss authorities and he was eventually expelled from the country. He moved back to Italy in 1904 and continued promoting a socialist agenda. He was then briefly imprisoned and after he was released, he became an editor of an organization's newspaper named Avanti (meaning forward). This made it much easier for him to expand his influence. The allied powers promised Italy land in exchange for joining them against the central powers during WWI. But, Italy was mostly ignored during the Treaty of Versailles and received very little land. This can be seen as one of the reasons Mussolini aligned with the Axis powers in WWII. He knew that the allies did not treated Italy fairly so he went against them in the next war. He also began invading countries in Africa such as Ethiopia so that Italy could establish itself as the rightful leading power of the Mediterranean.
