Benefits of Using Microsoft Excel
Since the beginning of the American school system; educators have tried to improve their teaching techniques in order, to be more effective in the classroom. With the recent technological advances we have benefited from in the past couple of decades; the educational system has greatly improved. For the last ten to fifteen years, the school system has successfully phased in the curriculum frequent computer usage in the classrooms, in order to improve the students ability to adapt to the growing use of computers in the work force. Teachers have based a lot of their assignments to the use of computers; nowadays it would be a rarity not to find a least one computer lab in a school building. The Microsoft Corporation’s software has been the leading operating system used in the work place, school and in home arena for most of the computer era. Microsoft has developed an array of different kinds of software that have been extremely helpful to computer users over the years. They have developed a word processing software in Microsoft Word, a webpage designer in Microsoft FrontPage, and data processing unit in Microsoft Excel. Microsoft Excel 2003 is a spreadsheet program that gives you support for XML and new features that make it easier to analyze and share information; these enhancements to statistical functions allow you to analyze information much more effectively. Microsoft Excel can be a very efficient teaching instrument when teaching mathematics, science, along with many other valuable uses for instructors, in a classroom environment.

Over the past few decades technology has advanced quite a bit. The use of calculators, computers, and other techniques in many fields has increased significantly. In a large scale, technology is replacing the method of instruction in the field of education. Many people believe that adopting technology in learning process can increase productivity. However, David Gelernter, who is a professor at Yale University as well as a leading figure in the field of technology, suggests to limit the use of technology in the classroom in his article “Unplugged: The Myth of Computers in the Classroom” which was published in the New Republic magazine in 1994. In this article he offers well illustrated analysis which makes the readers to regulate the use of technology in the classroom. He thinks that the technology comes in a way of building strong foundation of basic skills. He insists that computers should be used to aid the learning process, not to replace cognitive thinking.

The data has to be collected properly without it being so time consuming ,and it’s not only the functions that was collected in chapter 9 but the concepts that the entire Microsoft excel workbook is teaching can impact ones career effectively in a positive way. Excel creates a way for individuals to be on top information that is highly needed, without excel calculating this data will then become time consuming and then inaccurate, be smart about it and know what is what when dealing with different types data that’s needed depending on your career. It doesn’t if you’re a teacher, doctor, contractor, musician, or any other profession out there. Collect data the smart way. Be your own boss, and know what it takes.

Virtual manipulative tools are now also available for use in the classroom. It ranges from simple counting blocks to geoboards and tangram puzzles. Instead of reading about a math concept or working out a problem on paper, a student will work with a physical object to better understand what he/she is learning. The concrete representation is useful at all levels of math, from a preschooler using blocks to strengthen counting skills to an older student using fraction models to understand equivalent fractions.
If a student can do their work as fast as a computer, then they don’t need the computer, it is better for them to work it out by themselves.
With the widespread use of digital technology, the classroom teaching approaches and practices went through remarkable changes. When compared to the past ten years, today the classrooms look entirely different in terms of programs and technical tools used to enhance the learning skills of students.

Technology properly used in the classroom has many advantages to a student’s learning. Technology can help students become more involved in their own learning process, which is not seen in the traditional classroom. It allows them to master basic skills at their own rate rather than being left behind. Teachers and students alike can connect to real life situations by using technology in the classroom; this can also help to prepare students for real world situations. Technology can be used to motivate students as well as to offer more challenging opportunities. It can also be used as a visualization tool to keep students interested in the subject that is being taught. When technology is used effectively, students have the opportunity to develop skills that they may not get without the use of technology (Cleaver, 2011). Assessing and monitoring students is easier on the teacher because of the ability to use technology in the classroom. When technology is used correctly it offers limitless resources to a classroom atmosphere.
Using manipulatives to teach mean, median, and mode was very helpful. Instead of just reading the definition in the textbook, I have a conceptual or hands on application of how to define the term statistics. Using different types of graphs or diagrams to show statistics is a great way to visualize the data.
