Ever heard of the movie Bend it like Beckham? I have seen the movie more than once before I had to watch it for class. This is since I actually own the movie, and also because I enjoy football. The movie is about an Indian girl who is not allowed to play on an all-girls football team, even though she is out of high school. While she is playing for fun another girl watchers her, and convinces her and the coach that she needs to join the team. While she hides it from her family, she also has to deal with her feeling for her coach. The movie talks about the culture, different themes, and how the two families are similar, but also different.

One of the similarities was that both of the mothers were against their daughters playing football. Another similarity was that the fathers did not agree with their wife’s and thought that the girls should play football. Furthermore, both of the girls had to stand up to their parents saying that they want to play football.
A part of the Indian culture that I noted as different from my own culture was the weddings. There were people around all the time, and also the weddings are very different. The Indian culture has an engagement party rather than a bridal shower. Everybody came to the house of the brides rather than renting a place for the engagement party. Another thing that I noted that was different was that the way that they dressed was different. The women were not allowed to show their legs, they had to have pants on, or capris. It took Jess a while for her to put shorts on, and for her to feel comfortable about them.
I did not know much about the Indian culture beside what I have seen on television. I knew that they dressed different, but that was really it. I have seen this movie before, but never fully paid attention to the culture until now. It is quite different then my own culture. I like some of the ways that the Indian culture is different, but at the same time I like my own
