Prior to this course I haven’t had any personal experience developing or implementing a Behavior Intervention Plan. Until recently, when I took my new job, I had never heard of Behavior Intervention Plan. Where I work we have a Behavioral Analyst who is paid to come into the classroom and observe a children of concern. She is currently helping me determine the function of the behaviors of a couple my students. I would like to be in there more and observe, but being the building coordinator I get called elsewhere frequently. I want to learn more about how to do Behavior Intervention Plans effectively. that? I would like to learn how to do Behavior Intervention Plans effectively on my own so that I am able to free my colleague to be in other rooms more. It would be nice to only have to use her for a consult. This is also important to me because my student’s behaviors are less than desirable and I know it make the classroom environment more chaotic, which causes more stress for my teachers.
Until I began learning about Behavior Interventions I would go into the classrooms and aid the teachers with the students causing the most issues. I feel like more learning could be happening if these behaviors were different. I want to be able to help my students learn how to better attain teacher or peer attention in a positive way. After completing the Classroom Management Modules I learned the importance of having a plan in place up front. I also know from experience, how important it is to relay the classroom management plan to all staff involved with the class. Last year I was the computer lab teacher. I had a cart with laptops and I would push into the classroom for their computer class. I found it frustrating to have to figure out all the different class’ classroom management plans. It was helpful that most grades would do the same thing, but even having to remember from grade to grade what to do was hard. I wish the teachers would have taken the time to tell me what their rules and procedures are preferred for their room. I also learned there are different parts to a classroom management
plan. I always imagined it as: these are the rules and here what will happen if you don’t follow the rules. While part of that picture is included in the plan, I never thought of having to paint a picture of the students of what that looks like in the classroom. Giving the students a clear understanding of the expectations for routines just sets them up to succeed. Having a classroom management plan is essential to the operation of a successful classroom. After reviewing the modules I know I am going to creating more effective classroom management plans with my teachers and help them implement them in the room. I will continue to learn more about classroom management after this course by visiting other classrooms and watch how their classroom management plan operates. I will also research more ideas for effective classroom management for Pre-K students, as this is currently the age group I work with. I want my students to understand the dynamics of the classroom before entering Kindergarten, because it will help them have a smoother transition.
My Negative eating habits and recent medical troubles are what prompted me to choose a healthier diet as my behavior Change Projects. I recently went to the doctor and I was informed of my high triglyceride levels and I was put on medication. In addition, I am vitamin D and B deficient. After, visiting my doctor I knew I had to make a change in my life. In the Past year I have gained a little over ten pounds. So not only is this project helping me improve my diet, but has also given me a new incentive to lose those extra pounds.

John, a 15 year old male, is an 8th grade student attending a local middle school. John is a transfer student from another state and he been placed into an inclusion classroom because he has been identified as a student with a disability and requires an IEP. Lately, John has been verbally and physically disruptive during math class. Some of the disruptive behaviors John often exhibit in the classroom include making loud noises and jokes during instruction, calling his peers names, physically touching his peers, and grabbing group materials. John’s teacher collected data and learned that his verbal disruptive behavior occurs 4-8 times during each sixty minute class meeting, and his physical group disruptions occur 75% of the time he works with a group. After meeting with John’s other teachers, his math teacher learned that his disruptive behavior is only present during math class. According to John’s math test scores on his IEP, his math instructor also learned that math is a challenging subject for John and he is significantly below grade level. Both John’s math teacher and his IEP team reached an agreement that they would like to decrease the number of times John disrupts instruction and eventually eliminate the disruptive behavior. The replacement behavior for John is to remain focused and on task during math instruction and assigned activities without triggering any disruptions (i.e., distracting loud noises or jokes causing the class to go into a laughing uproar, physical contact with peers, name calling, or grabbing his peers’ materials). A behavioral intervention plan (BIP) is designed for a specific child to try to help that child learn to change her or his behavior. I am also not sure if my classroom management method was a good answer either. I said that I like to set up a routine within the first few weeks of school, so that the students know what to expect. I like to write the goals on the board for the students to know what we need to accomplish for the class period. I said my main way of managing a classroom was to build a routine and follow it. When talking to my teacher she mentioned to say that I will set up consequences and then always following through with those consequences. I thought her answer was a good.

My classroom management starts with a well-organized, clearly labeled classroom layout so that my students can easily access the resources they need for my class. I display visual aids and reminders around the room to support the students and I display their work in specific places around the room to give them a sense of belonging. I create routines and procedures to support the students and enable them to form smooth transitions between activities. There is a certain way they enter and leave the classroom, distribute books and papers, and move their desks and chairs. In my classroom these mundane tasks are completed quickly, competitively, and with enthusiasm. Having routines in place helps students understand exactly what is expected of them and gives them confidence in their actions.
My personal classroom management style revolves around student rapport and relationship.
