Becoming a Single Mother Changed My Life (For the Better!)
Everyone remembers a specific incident that has profoundly affected his or her life. I remember my special memory as if it happened yesterday; and that memory will always be as detailed. My life-altering occurrence happened when I was fresh out of high school.
As an 18-year-old, I was known as out-going and friendly, as well as a bit ditsy. I drank Mountain Dew religiously and smoked cigarettes with the same feverish devotion. I also smoked pot recreationally and drank alcohol less regularly. I was a bit immature. All I cared about was feeling good and having fun. My boyfriend Randy and I were inseparable. We did everything together and we loved each other intensely. We had been dating for a year and a half; nothing else mattered to us except each other. Then, in July, everything changed.
At the end of that month, Randy and I went to the drug store and bought a pregnancy test. We traveled to a friend's house and hid in the hot, stuffy bathroom to await the outcome.
Randy and I sat on the hard, scummy bathroom floor holding each other while the test sat on the edge of the sink, developing an answer. Averting our eyes, we dared not look until the required two minutes were up. We both stood up and peeked at the result. It read "positive." I immediately began to cry. Randy saw my despair and clutched me close, smiling with pride. His unexpected favorable reaction put me at ease. Knowing that he was proud of having a baby made me delighted to bear his child.
I knew I had received a precious gift from Randy and from God. Knowing the importance of the baby's life and health, I quickly quit smoking cold turkey and cut caffeine out of my diet; both of which were ...

...y to buckle down to the responsibilities. The job was left to me.
Unlike Randy, who made preparing for fatherhood a loathsome chore, I made motherhood important and enjoyable. Preparing for it in that fashion made my transition in life less strenuous. It's still not easy, knowing that the most valuable person in my life has unpredictably rejected his child and me. I just have to remember that Randy did it because he was unwilling to stray from his easy life, and not because I was doing something wrong to him. Conquering everything all by my lonesome, I'm now successfully raising a baby, going to school full-time at State University, and working part-time. I'm a confident mother and have a new sense of self-worth. I have a son to live for now, so I still take care of my health, even though I'm not carrying a child. I owe it all to a little peek at a pregnancy test.
When someone tells you they have experienced something "life changing" what lingers through your mind? Mine is November 10, 2010 12:04pm; This was the first 24 hour period when my mother’s ability to act single-handedly on her health became theoretical; Failing to recall whether she took her pills in the morning was no longer acceptable. My mother had undergone a surgery due to various cancerous cells that grew in both her thyroids. Having removed the right and left side, doctors informed her after this procedure she must consume two white pills everyday, for the rest of her life. The purpose of these pills
Nine strikingly fast months have slipped away since I learned about the surprise Amber had for me. It was time to meet our baby boy. I’m anxiously waiting in what has been our “luxury suite” in the Labor and Delivery Department of our Hospital. Amber was taken for surgery

Most people can say they have experienced a life-changing or a surreal moment or event that seems to stop even time itself. Moments like these can change your entire perception of life events and may also tweak your personality.
"The Facts on Prenatal Testing." The Facts on Prenatal Testing. Web. 30 Mar. 2014. .
Prenatal genetic testing has become one of the largest and most influencial advances in clinical genetics today. "Of the over 4000 genetic traits which have been distinguished to date, more than 300 are identifiable via prenatal genetic testing" (Morris, 1993). Every year, thousands of couples are subjecting their lives to the results of prenatal tests. For some, the information may be a sigh of relief, for others a tear of terror. The psychological effects following a prenatal test can be devastating, leaving the woman with a decision which will affect the rest of her life.
I took a deep breath and pushed till I thought my eyeballs would pop out. In a gush she arrived, and they laid her on my chest where she immediately started to nurse. My husband started to cry for joy and I just had the biggest grin on my face. I did it, I did it!!

Motherhood has taught me many life lessons. Before becoming a mother, I was a self centered child. I had no motivation to succeed. All I was worried about was where the next party was. At that time I had no want to try because I was so scared to fail. I was slowly progressing to go nowhere and do nothing with my life. That has all changed now. I no longer party or use drugs. I work full time, attend college full time and devote my all to my children. Without them I would probably be in a jail cell not where I am today.
I first became a mother on a very hot day in North Carolina on August 2008, to a 9 lb. 7 oz. girl. We moved to Texas when she was 7 months old and have lived here ever since; except the 6 months we lived in Canada during the winter. It was a great experience living there but it made me very grateful for Texas winters.
I remember it as clear as day. It had been a fairly normal week, and a routine average day. It was a Friday and I was driving home from school in my trusty Toyota Tercel. I was getting into the dreaded mental set of the game that I would be playing in that night. I had to play in the band at halftime and it was the first performance of the season. The whole ride to my house I thought about the game and hoped and prayed that we wouldn't make huge fools of ourselves. Before I knew it, I was already home. I remember thinking that it felt like the shortest drive ever, getting to beautiful Rolling Oaks. When I got home, little did I know, that there would be a huge surprise waiting for me that would change my life forever.
During the nine months that I was pregnant, I prepared myself for the arrival of Freddrick. The one thing I did know is that I wouldn’t have any type of financial help with Freddrick because his father had no idea, or clue how to take care of his self, nor less a son that was about to arrive. The first thing I had to do while being pregnant is to get a job, so I would be able to financially take care of Freddrick. Even though I knew it would be a bad idea to work during the pregnancy because of the fact of my low blood count that the doctor had warned me about. Working while I was pregnant was a big risk because I would just pass out for no apparent reason, I would be sick a lot, or just wouldn’t have any energy at all to do anything. I knew I had to work in order, for Freddrick to have a stroller, clothes, diapers, a car seat, and other baby equipment that was needed before his arrival. The nine months also gave me time to get myself together, so that I could stop hanging around the wrong people in my life, I needed to make a decision about being with his father or leaving him once Freddrick arrived, also stop doing some of the things I was doing as teenager that would not be able to do as a mother, and also mentally prepare myself for the arrival of Freddrick.
Becoming a mother was the most important day, this was the day my identity shined through. I am proud to say I am his mother. Not having that bond with my mother gave me the strength to be stronger. I have this bond with him that can never break I’m the one he can turn to when he needs to talk. He lights up every time he sees me and it melts my heart it lets me know that I am doing my
