Becoming Homeless

I was around ten years old, living in a typical city called Camden in New Jersey, which is one of the worst cities in America. I remember waking up on a cold winter around 3:00 am coughing clouded by smoke. Immediately, I began to freak out, cry, and yell for help. My mother found me and rushed me and my little cousin who was staying with me during this scary event. Someone has left the stove on which had caused the fire to start. Our house was destroyed and we were devastated. As our home was destroyed by fire, we became homeless for almost a year and went in and out of shelters. Gladly to say, I moved to South Carolina with my Grandmother where I had started a new life. Now that this event happened I live on the quote that say “Everything …show more content…

But my mother was not trying to get a job and was on drugs. At my young age, being homeless was something that I could not deal with because I was sleeping in a room with strangers and I was just freaked out but it also opened my eyes due to the fact that there were so many people homeless especially families with kids. We didn’t have money, and the money that we were receiving my mother would spend it on nonsense. After a year going in and out of shelters my grandmother found out that my uncle had a program who saved women and children who has been raped, molested, abused, and homeless. They had houses a school, and different other things that brought great opportunities. So I wanted to go so I can better my life but my mother did not want to go so my Grandmother took me to South Carolina to better my life and succeed in life. Moving to South Carolina changed my life for the better. I had a fresh start and a new home. I was glad that I actually had a place to call home. It was a good adjustment because they let me and my Grandmother have a place to stay, they let me go to their school which brought my grades up and any problem we had they solved it for us. I could honestly say this transition was one of the best thing that happened to
