Homelessness is a global problem that leaves many of us asking questions as to why this trouble exists and how can we fix this problem that affects hundreds of thousands of people. The majority of the public may have many different ways in envisioning homelessness and how it affects people, economies, and humanities, sociologists can view this problem in a few different ways. For homeless individuals it is important in keeping an existence and not be viewed as an outcast by others. Postmodernism as far as reflected by homelessness means that homeless people choose to become homeless because the rest of the issues that they deal with in life are too hard for them to handle. Also some homeless individuals may choose to use alcohol and/or drugs to help justify their choice of homelessness. The four sociological perspectives provide a brief detailed description of how different types of sociologists would consider what a disturbing and complex social issue this was. However, the above examples of symbolic interactionist, functionalist, conflict and postmodernist theorist responses to homelessness represents how these four perspectives would address a problem that has proved to be a persistent and difficult matter to resolve.
