Imagine that you are fourteen years old exploring channels on the television; nothing really catches your eye but the sport stations, and this fascinates you so much that you start thinking “I want to do this whenever I get older,” this exact thing happened to me. Working in the field as a sport reporter has always been a dream of mine ever since I was young; watching professional analyst talk about the trending topics in sports on ESPN and reading local reporter’s sport articles in the newspaper. Paying attention to this at such a young age has helped me learn so much on this occupation, for example, I knew about the mass amount of traveling a sport reporter has to do. Based on this knowledge, I was absolutely thrilled to do a report on sports …show more content…
I asked her, “How old was she whenever realized you wanted to be a sports reporter?” Melissa responded, “I didn't realize I wanted to be a sports reporter until I was almost 22. I didn't even know I would enjoy writing about sports until I gave it a try in my junior year of college while working for The Reflector, our newspaper at Mississippi State.” Seeing that she said she worked on newspapers for Mississippi State was very surprising to me, so I asked her, “What do you think is the best 4 year college for journalism or mass communication?” She said, “In the state of Mississippi, we are very lucky to have three great universities for journalism and mass communication. I received my bachelor's degree from Mississippi State and had a great experience there working for their student newspaper. Then I received my master's from Ole Miss and was able to see why their journalism program is spoken highly of.” Her answer to that question really shocked me because I thought she would say Mississippi State considering she went there. The final question I asked her was, “What is the thing you love the most about this job?” She responded, “What I love most about this job is being able to capture lasting memories. Kids will only play high school sports for a limited amount of time, and thanks to my stories and photos, they can look back on them years later and remember some of the …show more content…
Learning this made me realize how hard of workings people in this occupation are. From my works cited page, I learned that the websites most be italicized and to always add the dates. Finally, I learned that whenever someone is working on a paper, procrastination is never a good thing
Rick Reilly, in his ESPN column (2007), contends that sports competitions are more than simple games, instead, they are events capable of bringing people together in unique ways. He reinforces his contention by integrating inspirational anecdotal evidence, bold syntax, and unvarnished diction. Reilly’s purpose is to point out the importance and humanity of sports in order to convince a college professor and readers of sports magazines that sports writing is indeed an advanced and valuable profession. He assumes a humorous tone (“...most important- sports is the place where beer tastes best”) for an audience of sports magazine readers, but more specifically, a professor that told him that he was “better than sports.”
Rick Reilly, born in Boulder Colorado, in 1958 was a longtime columnist for sports illustrated, later on in 2007 he joined ESPN The Magazine where his essay Why I Love My Job appeared in the December 14, 2009 edition for the 100-years-in-review issue. In his essay Reilly brings up his writing days in college and how his journalism professor told him “ You’re better than sports.” Reilly disagrees with his professor and lists all the reasons why he will never be better than sports. Why I Love My Job is an essay that touches the hearts of many sport fans showing them how beautiful the thing they love is because sports has no grey areas, sports is something that is raw, sports brings multitudes together.

I know how to complete a works cited page, but I often find myself looking at examples because I have not yet memorized how to set them up. For the remainder of the semester, I plan to keep turning my work in on time and sometimes even early. I am proud to say that I have turned all of my work in early so far this semester. I want to earn the best grades possible on my essays, and for me to accomplish that goal I will continue to edit and revise all of my papers until the end of the semester. I also hope to improve my writing skills and become better at brainstorming
The discrepancies in media coverage in coverage of female and children athletics have large gaps, but are gaining momentum in sharing equality. Major athletic leagues such as the NBA and FIFA World Cup have wide gaps in marketing and ratings for their male and female athletes. Children are future athletes and superstars, but as funding and coverage in athletics caters to the males, women are breaking the barriers to being in the spotlight of sport. Both genders contribute equally to athletics, and challenge the each other to accept new ideas and change. The sports world that has a single gender dominating the media is unjust.
Most people discover a profound passion for something following their education or experience with that subject. Dr. Greer, however, found her passion for journalism long before taking any journalism-related classes. “I, along with a friend, produced a magazine for the neighborhood when I was 8 years old,” says Greer as a brief expression of nostalgia flickers across her face. Greer remembers, “I always watched the show about Lou Grant’s newspaper, and I thought the news room looked like fun.” Dr. Greer says that the appearance of the day-to-day, chaotic, exciting newspaper business inspired her to create, by hand, a newsletter of her own which she delivered to the neighborhood families. By the time Dr. Greer had entered middle school, her writing skills were superior to others her age. “In the fifth grade, I wrote an essay about why I wanted to be a journalist,” Dr. Greer explains. “My teacher commented on how good I could write and encouraged me to follow my drea...
One interest that is highly meaningful to me is working as a soccer referee. My story as a soccer official starts five years ago at the age of twelve years old. I first begin officiating primarily as a means to earn a little money to buy video games. Initially, I start as a Recreational Youth Referee officiating the youngest age group at the local soccer park. As I progress to Competitive Youth Referee, my career begins to take root, and I receive invitations to officiate tournaments throughout Georgia. Fast forward to today and my career is in full bloom. As an Amateur Youth Referee, I regularly travel to high-level tournaments in Alabama, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Moreover, over the next six months, I will complete the certification for State Referee. I know my story is not complete yet and I remain hopeful to one day achieve my goal of FIFA Referee (Federation Internationale de Football Association).

Can women's sports establish itself as a topic of on-going media and journalism curiosity? Currently TV stations do minimal coverage of women's sports, while newspapers and magazines do just a little bit better. In a recent interview with Gary Webb, a sports writer for The Spectrum, he says that "the people have demonstrated that there is an audience that loves hearing about women athletes. After all, they are somebody's kids, sisters, and moms". I learned that these sports writers love to cover women's games, especially girls highschool basketball games. Gary said that he would rather watch a Parowan-Beaver girls game over the boys anyday. Karen Winegar, staff writer for the The Star Tribune of Minnesota said., "Portrayal of female athletes is improving, but despite increasing interest and participation, their sports are getting no more coverage than they got five years ago" (1A+). Women's sports participation will surely continue to grow in the future, so the media and journalists better be prepared to increase their coverage accordingly.
Media is known for taking an issue and exaggerating the truth and putting out the bias of their own political ideology. In sports media the same could be said about how the sports analyst have their bias about teams, players and coaches. This bias directly hurts the image and reputation of people who may not want the attention or made a mistake that was blown out of proportion. Also sports media tend to cover many rumors that may not always be true, but even if the rumor isn’t true at the end, it tends to affect the viewer’s perspective anyway. Sports media outlets such as ESPN and recently Fox Sports 1 hurt or enhance the images of players, coaches, owners, and teams by covering and reporting rumors that are sometimes untrue and they also broadcast sportscasters' biased opinions ultimately causing the public to change their opinions of sports figures.
As time progresses, watching and supporting sports is becoming more and more popular as a main source of entertainment. Many people have found ways to connect their jobs with their passion of sports. “The multibillion-dollar sports industry offers employment opportunities for management, marketing, and supervisory professionals at all levels of competition” (Sports Management 1). Depending on a person’s interests, there are jobs in professional, amateur, and even school sports. Once a person decides on a sport management career, it needs to be determined which area he or she more specifically wants to go into based on his or her interests and abilities.

Growing up one of the first things I was introduced to was sports and from there on, they have played a huge role not only in my life, but also my success. They've helped me develop a great worth ethic, good teamworking skills and how to go after what I want. Sports have given me a way to learn what I’m capable of and what my body can achieve, even when I’m tired and ready to give up.
Journalism is type of writing that investigates and includes lots of research of good and bad stories and some events. Journalists tend to write news stories that people should know about and haven’t already heard. Journalism comes in different categories; some are reporters, writers, editors, and photographers. People who tend to like journalism are those who love language and enjoying writing and reading, are called journalist; they work as reporters at newspapers, magazines, websites, TV stations, and radio stations. Good journalists love to read and want to find out what is going on around them and the world. They write short and long stories as they must write true stories. Journalists write stories that are from real people and they make the stories real too. People are not interested in reading newspapers now as much as they used to long time ago. These days’ people carry news on their iPods, cell phones, laptops, and more. They can even watch them on TV. A long time ago people knew the news through newspapers or the rich would have a radio which was the only way to know what is going in the world, but now news are everywhere.
