Good Morning to my class, I come to talk about my dreams for the future. In twenty or thirty years how I do I see myself, my peers. Will we be successful, will we be married with kids, will we be in poverty, will we be dead? All 52 of us might fall in at least one of these categories. I ask myself, what problems do we face? Do I want my future children to live in a world where suffering still exists? I want my life to be filled with lavish essentials. I don’t necessarily want the finer things in life, but the things that make me feel fine. I want to go to college, and become a Pediatric Neurologist. I want a multi-million dollar home. I want the memory of me to be plastered footprint. A footprint that can leave an impression and can be referenced …show more content…
I am sick of seeing my brothers my sisters shot, murdered, humiliated by the higher power. I am sick of seeing helpless people get refused of being helpless. I am sick of seeing mother's boys dying for a country they cannot even drink in. I am sick of people not caring about a problem because it is not relevant to them. Are you sick and tired my friends? You should be. We must care and not just when it matters we must care now, on May 9, 2016, and we cannot stop until you take your last breath. Do you care that people are dying in the street of the public? Do you care about the homeless man on the corner, do you help him? Do you care about boys dying on foreign soil? I care and I will influence and empower a …show more content…
Are we as humanity satisfied? Satisfied with depression, regression, and oppression. In similar words to the famous JFK phrase, ask not what will you do but what you are going to do. I want my generation to be the generation that cares about all people regardless of race, religion, or social class. I want my generation to shape a new form of civilization much like the ancient romans shaped modern democracy. As the class of 2016, 2017, 2018 and so on what are we gonna change? Will we be the generation that can sit in a room filled with strangers and not judge others? Can we make decisions without arguments? I wonder who the person in charge of our country will be. We need someone who always puts our country and its people first before
To regard the importance of the bigger picture, he maintains parallel structure and utilizes the repetition of words in the body of the speech. “The fulfilling life, the distinctive life, the relevant life” occurs when one seizes the day—when one finds the joys in life by realizing “you are not special”. The pauses and short sentences also adds to the conversational aspect and pace of the commencement piece. To continue, he notes how in this moment of time, every single one of them is dressed “exactly the same” and their diplomas are “exactly the same”. The unification of these prospective seniors further augments the message of settling. McCullogh further critiques the phrases that defy logic. High school students have perceived that “good is no longer good enough, where a B is the new C”. The goal into doing one’s best has been shaped into doing the capabilities of another, in which McCullogh responds metaphorically to only focus on the betterment of the self: “climb [the mountain] so you can see the world, not so the world can see you”. All of these seniors have fallen into the preconceived mindset of superiority, unifying them together but it is their personal capabilities that distinguishes one from another, successes from failures. The support and inspiration he is aiming for is clearly portrayed in proposing to the students to, “[d]ream big. Work hard. Think for yourself”. He inspires them to experience life instead of accomplish
Despite this, there continue to be incidents where middle class people are devastated when unable to achieve the so-called American Dream. Of course, the social expectations of a society are generally set by the previous generation and cause the newer generation to feel guilt when they cannot meet them. In order to avoid this feeling of guilt and insufficiency, people are willing to give up their unique hopes and goals; thus creating a people that are cohesively identical. Students in today’s universities are amazingly bright and creative, yet change their majors to those society has placed honor on, such as medicine, law, and engineering. The amount of innovation and invention
I am currently majoring in nursing, and plan to become a pediatric nurse. However, before starting high school I wanted to be a veterinarian. Because of this, my mom signed me up to take Health Team Relations my freshman year. At the time, Health Team Relations was a prerequisite course; I was required to take it before being able to continue with what was known as Allied Health I and Allied Health II. I was taught the basics of health care, including terminology and the different careers available in the medical field. Health Team Relations was the course that helped me begin to consider my career options.
The adversity that was displayed through racial inequalities became a platform for me to trust myself even more along with advocating an example for future young students to neglect any doubt previously conceived of them. It inspired the drive to exhibit triumph and became an ultimate fuel that leads me to the aspiration of love, hope, and success for the years to come. The configuration of a vision of fulfilling my own destiny shaped my undying dream. A dream to say, "I have a
Children get injured or sick every day, and it doesn’t matter whether the child goes to a doctor or a pediatrician they are still tended to by a pediatric nurse. A pediatric nurse has to have many qualities. They also have to take many different classes. A pediatric nurse’s pay can vary from location to location depending on where they are working. Pediatric nurses must endure many different things to make it into this particular work field, and have many different qualities.
Moss, Robert. Dreaming True: How to Dream Your Future and Change Your Life for the Better.
Today as I sit in a graduate class I realize how closer I am getting to the dream I once had as a child. I, Dominique Jerome a Haitian-American always dreamt of being a teacher at a high school and college level. My love for history has grown each and everyday from the second I started attending primary school. As I sit back and recollect on myself as a maker, I realize without my culture, my motivation, my family and passion I would not be where I am at today. My hopes and dreams are to be an asset to the world of academia whether it’s in the classroom or outside the classroom.
Many people in this world want to make a difference in life. However, most people do not want to put in all the effort that it takes to do so. The job of a pediatrician is life-changing to many. Unfortunately, it takes drive and effort that many people do not have, to become a pediatrician. A pediatrician’s job is a highly-skilled and interesting job because he or she has the privilege to deal with and help as many children as possible.
Every one of us can do our part to make this world a better place we just have to actually put forth effort. Think about every generation that has come before us and the obstacles they faced and overcame that is their legacy that is what they will be remembered for my question to the millennial generation what do you want our legacy to be? I want to say how much this class has meant to me and the lessons it has taught me and the perspective it has shown me it has change how I see the world. Most importantly I learned that is there is hope and we can make a difference if we stand up for what we believe in and to make a difference not wait for someone else to. I never in a millions years expected this class to impact me as much as it did going from not even knowing what sociology even was to having a better understanding of today’s society and a much stronger motivation to make a difference. I am extremely glad I got the opportunity to take this class and learn so many new things about society from Carlos I feel as if I have grow as a person from the first day of class to the last. I hope to make a difference in today’s society instead of complaining about what I don’t like I really do think that we can change things even though things look a little bleak. After taking this class and would defiantly agree that sociology and ethnic studies should be a requirement in some shape or form whether its in high school or college people need to have the blindfold removed from their eyes because just like me I would have never taken this class if it wasn’t a requirement but I can say I am glad I did and I know everyone in class would agree with me when I say thank you showing me what I have been taught to
My career choice is to become a pediatrician. The question is: what makes this job so interesting or fantastic enough to be chosen? This job requires many sacrifices, skills, and strengths to endeavor the obstacles on the way to the goal. This particular job is also a very honorable and noble job in the sense of helping children with their illnesses and ailments. Personally, I love children and I’m always fascinated by their actions and interesting techniques of expressing themselves. Since I am intrigued by the children’s personality I love spending time with them (and that’s why their child-like ways rub off on me). Thus, I believe that my own childish personality and my love of children will motivate me in the near future to help them out with their medical needs. Also, being a pediatrician and helping out children has its own rewards. Not only will I be doing something I enjoy, but I will be getting paid a generous price as well. A pediatrician’s salary is not the highest one compared to surgeons or cardiologists, but it’s enough to have a life that is something more than simply satisfying. Another good aspect of this job is that they only focus on the health of children rather than all of the age groups. An adult and a child are so different they are nearly two different species. If a child is brought to a doctor who specializes in all age groups, the child would not be getting the same kind of attention that he or she would be getting, compared to that from a doctor who specializes only in children. Doctors that specialize in all age groups are used to make quick, rough, and fundamental actions need for the healing of the patient. One does not simply treat a child the same way an adult would be treated. The child would becom...
Narveson, Jan. 1978. “Future People and Us.” in Obligation to Future Generations, ed. R.I. Sikora and Brian Barry. (Philadelphia: Temple University Press)
My education is something that has shaped who I am today more than I realized. To the people who have been involved in my education. For the goal I have set for myself it’s a dream a dream with plan. For that goal I have set high expectations.
My generation is the future, this I knew before this paper. But what I didn’t know, is that my peers have gone from children wishing to be doctors, to young adults following that path to get there. They haven’t sold themselves short. They have kept their dreams alive, and haven’t forgot the importance of family.
In pondering what my life will be like when I am finished with college, I have to consider the rapid life-changing events and choices that I am facing now at the age of 17. In a short span of time I have had to make a decision about my future career and, based on that decision, choose where I would go to college. I realize that I am in a crucial part of my life now, and that the commitments I make today will drastically affect my status ten years from now.
In a person’s life, they learn from everything around them, and take in everything that they see, and learn from all of it. Hopefully, they get a good result so that they may be able to make a difference in the world around them. I feel that I have to tools to make the changes that I want, and the knowledge to know how to make these changes. I look toward the future with a bright outlook, and know that to keep learning is the key to making my bright outlook the truth. For my future and the future of people younger and older than me, education will always be the key.
