This report is about basketball and why it's a favorite sport to a lot of people and why it makes money. Basketball has provided products to sell all around the world.
Basketball is a very popular sport in the United States of America and is played a lot by people all around the world. There are many different leagues. There are a lot of leagues in basketball. You can start out as a youth then high school then college then maybe even the pros and if you play in the pros. You can even play in the olympics and compete against other countries. Basketball is played everyday by someone in the world and there are even people who play that aren't in the U.S like people in China play basketball and the rules are the same
The game of basketball along with football and soccer is one of the most prominent sports in the United States and the World. It’s played at every level from 5 & under to the professional athletes in the NBA and overseas. Every team is made up of virtually the same elements; the guards, big men and coaches. Basketball is not a sport where you can focus solely on yourself, but the focus should be on the team. The sport is very public and easy to see, however there are many things that occur behind closed doors when no one is looking.
Since its creation in 1893, the sport of basketball has been one of the most popular sports in the United States. One wouldn’t have to search long to find a basketball court and a pickup game in most American cities. Many people around the world look up to the stars of the National Basketball Association as role models.
Backstory of Basketball Basketball has been played since 1891, and still continues to be played today as well. Basketball is an intriguing game played by 2 teams with 5 players from each team on the court at the same time. Basketball, as it started out in 1891 had no African American athletes in the sport. That was still going on, even as late as the 1950’s.
People from all over the world come to America to play in the professional league known as the NBA. Although Germany does not value basketball as much as Americans do, they still have pro leagues that basketball players compete. One the greatest german basketball players, Dirk Nowitzki, plays in the NBA(“Sports in Germany”). He came to America to play basketball because he knew that he would become better recognized worldwide and they get payed much more than they do in the German professional leagues. There are also athletes in America that are well known around the world such as Lebron James. He plays in the NBA in America, but he is known worldwide because of his international play. Other sports that are commonly played in both countries are golf, swimming, and tennis(“Sports in Germany”). Basketball has been around for a long while. It was first established in 1891 by James Naismith. James Naismith was once the basketball coach at Kansas University. When he invented the sport he used a peach basket as the goal. When it first originated every time they would score they’d be required to call the janitor out with a ladder to get the ball down. After a few months they cut the bottoms of the basket out.
Many of us know of the fun game of basketball, the object of the game is to basically run up and down the court and shoot the ball, and block the other team when they try to score. It doesn’t matter if you’re better than LeBron or worse than Austin, the real winning in basketball is the smile on your face when you hit that jumper, or assist that alley-oop, or even dribble the ball down the court. Basketball is a popular sport that millions of people play around the world but does everyone know how basketball started and how it evolved throughout history? “Many people do not know that basketball was around since the early 1890s. In 1891, James Naismith, a Canadian-American sports teacher invented this simple sport”(Livestrong.com). Certainly the rules and the style of play wasn’t similar as today’s game. When it was first played in the early ages, there were more carrying the ball and tackling other players in order to get the ball.

Though the basket does have to be a certain height kids play it in their classroom or outside. What I mean by this is that kids and even adults in the office treat a trash can as a basket and whatever their trash is as a ball. I got interested in this sport when I was in middle school in eighth grade moving on to high school. I was never interested in basketball until I played it with a group of kids who today are still my friends.
The Commercialisation of Sport The commercialisation of sport is not wholly beneficial as it has many disadvantages to it. Commercialisation is the promotion and development of a product as a business within a market place. This is done by the use of sponsorship, funding, selling, publicity and advertising within the media, which is all rooted from money. People invest in sport not only for the success that comes from it, but for the great deal of money that can be made in the sport business, therefore money is of high importance in the sporting industry.
