In a perfect world we would all understand each other. We would all get along and we wouldn’t have to worry about adversity. In a perfect world every culture's language and identity would be accepted. But, this is not a perfect world, everyone is not accepted. Due to the fact that society is so judgmental, today, we are forced to change who we are in order to fit the criteria of another group's social norms. In “From the Outside, In”, by Barbara Mellix, Mellix describes how she handled her cultural differences. Mellix explained how she practically spoke two different languages, “black English” and “standard English”.
