Elected as the 44th President of the United States of America in 2008, Barack Husain Obama put the country on his back and led us through many ups and downs. From the assassination of the world’s biggest terrorist, Osama Bin Laden, to the United States induction into the North America Free Trade Agreement, and to a new healthcare plan, Obama put things in order that will affect the country for many years to come. Barack Obama’s pros overcome his flaws, making him the best President that the United States has ever had. President Obama is a good leader because he is perceptive. opportunities in healthcare, education, and employment. A year into his presidency, Barack Obama passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, also known as the Stimulus. The stimulus was a $787 billion dollar American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that spurred economic growth in the middle of the greatest recession since the Great Depression. The stimulus package is a union of thousands of federal tax reductions, and expenditures on infrastructure, education, health care, energy, and other projects. This stimulus package was to jumpstart the U.S. economy out of recession mainly by generating two to three million new jobs and replacing decreased consumer spending. During this time, the U.S. economy was losing 800,000 jobs a month. In 2008, it had contracted at an eight percent annual rate, a Depression-level free fall. The stimulus is providing expansion of broadband to small rural communities for economic development, advancing technology for power reliability, and providing a co-generation project. A few weeks into the stimulus the unemployment claims started to become less intense, and within twelve months the private sector began producing the most jobs it has in decades. The private sector continued to do this for twenty-three consecutive months creating around 3.7 million new jobs within the private sector. The stimulus prevented a second recession that could have turned into a depression. It created or saved an average of 1.6 million jobs a year for four years. It raised the nation’s economic output by two to three percent from 2009 to 2011. It prevented a significant increase in poverty. Without the stimulus, 5.3 million additional people would have become poor in 2010. The road to recovery will not be straight, but by working together bettering the economy will be accomplished. (Obama) The president shows the confidence he has and that he is willing to continue to better his country no matter what it takes. The importance of the recovery plan is not just the fact it created or saved three and a half million jobs over two years. The principal is that Obama had put Americans to work doing the work America needs done in condemning areas that have been ignored for an excess amount of time. Thankfully is it the work that will bring real and long lasting change for generations to come so we can keep on the hard work and work success. President Obama had remade the American landscape with a new and large investment in America’s infrastructure since the interstate highway system which was made in the 1950s. However, because of this investment men and women will progress by rebuilding roads and bridges and building high speed rail lines which have improved travel and commerce throughout the nation. This stimulus also is assisting in the education of children. The investment created jobs to build for classrooms, libraries, and labs for millions of children. It provided funds so we can aid a new generation of teachers, in addition to aiding to states and school districts to stop lying off teachers and education programs to being cut. Obama is bettering the generations so the following generations can be born into receiving a great generation. Another pro that Obama added to the stimulus is that it created a new $2,500 annual tax credit so adults can get their college degree even for middle class families and at an affordable price for seven million students. Now, it helps men and women aim and reach farther for their goals. There are numerous people out there who would love a college education to pursue their dreams but cannot simply for the fact they cannot afford it. Regarding to the stimulus middle class students can now have a positive attitude and no worry about their future. They can do whatever they set their minds to. To rebuild an economy, it starts with strengthen hardworking Americans and give them the confidence and positivity they need. (Obama) The president is for the middle class and he states, that is how our economy grows, from the middle out, bottom up, and where everybody has got a shot. He shows everyone is equal, deserves a chance, and we all stem from something. One year after that President Obama signed the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, better known as the Wall Street Reform.
This reform re-regulated the financial sector, tightened capital requirements on banks and overall placed major regulations on the financial industry. This reform also protects consumers with rules for abusive lending and mortgage practices. The main goal of the Wall Street Reform is to subject banks to a number of regulations and the possibility of being broken up due to the banks being “too big to …show more content…
fail.” After five presidents and over a century, it was a failure to create a universal health insurance. Obama wanted to make a move, he thought of the idea “Obama Care”. It covered thirty two million uninsured Americans beginning in 2014 and mandates a suite of experimental measures to cut health care cost growth. The new health care law has already helped millions of Americans afford better quality health insurance, helped to reform the health insurance industry, and had expanded Americans healthcare rights. The bill also aims to reduce lavish spending in healthcare. He is for a healthcare system that brings hope. Obama’s healthcare plan has allowed uninsured Americans to bring in the benefits of a universal healthcare system. A suffering child should never be turned away because his or her mother doesn’t have health insurance. President Barack Obama is not one to deny medical assistance to people who desperately need it is. Obama’s health care plan has placed America among the world’s greatest superpowers who demonstrate care and compassion toward its constituents with healthcare that serves all. Millions of Americans can now purchase more affordable healthcare plans. To add to his list of achievements, in 2011 he set out the hunt to kill the world’s biggest terrorist, Osama Bin Laden. Bin Laden is the man behind the biggest terroristic catastrophe on American soil, 9.11. It was the most satisfying day for the president’s presidency but also for the United States since he has been president. (Obama) President Obama got rid of Osama bin Laden, the man of terrorism, but a mass murderer who avoided justice and peace for so long. To be able to say my president has excluded the man who had caused a large number of deaths in my country was something not only I am grateful for but also my country. As a leader, Obama made an immense decision to launch the attack on Osama. He took a risk to the men that he had sent out, but the president had so much confidence and trust in his men to carry out his mission. He knew there were risks but they outweighed the benefit of them finally getting the man that had caused so much grief. Along with Bin Laden being killed, the United States found a goldmine of al-Qaeda documents. These documents had everything from past crimes, who partook in those crimes, to crimes the terrorist group planned on committing. Knowing that the most wanted man in the world was no longer a problem, gave the entire world a sense of relief. The United States then took Bin Laden’s body and dumped it in the middle of the ocean. President Obama is still receiving praise from this monumental accomplishment. As one can see, President Barack Obama was an outstanding president, successful, and on a mission to get things done.
Not everyone agrees but my claim is stronger. As Obama tries to address major challenges with the economy, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and healthcare reform, Americans acknowledge his leadership qualities, including his willingness to make hard decisions and the strength and decisiveness of his leadership. At the same time, Americans are losing some confidence in his ability to manage the government effectively, perhaps in response to reports of mounting federal budget deficits. Obamacare seems to be a positive plan for Americans as well as negative for Republicans. Yes, the Act has many problems, not the least of which are high costs and astonishing involvement. So why are the Republicans so against Obamacare? The Republicans say that Obamacare will destroy the economy. They say that because by forcing businesses to spend more on health care and by hiring part-time workers instead of full time workers it will destroy businesses. (Blodget) They do have a point, but for some companies Obamacare really is not a big deal all it is doing is causing change in the hiring
plans. In conclusion, Obama always kept things running smoothly and always had a positive attitude. There are people around the world that give off a positive energy and try to keep people happy, but I have not seen anyone greater at that than President Obama. Listening to his speeches has shown me how thankful he was to be our president, the confidence he had in all of America, and the love he has for his country. Barack Obama is willing to make hard decisions and is a very strong and defensive leader. He is not one to abuse his powers as president of the United States of America. He would take on any challenge. In a poll taken, Americans rate Barack Obama most highly for those that reflect on his leadership skills. (Jones) He has accomplished problems that past presidents have tried to diminish with his excellent leadership skills.
Back in 1980, Republican president nominee Ronald Reagan pledged throughout his campaign that it was his goal to “restore the great, confident roar of American progress, growth and optimism”. Restoration, reinvigoration, and reclamation of values believed to be lost by the presidential treachery he was succeeding. Fast forward to 2008, Democratic president nominee Barack Obama did not see a need for restoration, he saw a need for new waves with his slogan “change we can believe in” after the economic destruction by W. Bush. Being such dramatic foils, the two men represent different eras of American politics. The unprecedented election of Obama severed Reagan’s seemingly everlasting legacy, signaling real changes coming to the presidency. The “Reagan Revolution” is remembered as an era of conservatism and economic peace, while Obama’s terms are viewed with mixed emotions. Obama’s impact can definitely be argued, as political information was more readily accessible in his presidency than any other in history; thanks to new technology and social communications, but since time has passed, so can Reagan’s. The use of their presidential powers is what a president is remembered for. Assessing the ranges in their backgrounds, motivations, policy creation and execution, and overall achievements, one can determine
Just mention the word "Obamacare" and a heated debate will start right away. The legal name of Obamacare is "the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, PPACA" (Tate 1). The law has over 2500 pages and many have not read the entire law (Tate 12). Democrat Nancy Pelosi made an infamous remark back in 2010 stating "that Congress '[has] to pass the bill so you can find out what's in it'".(Roff). This law was signed in March of 2010 and has a 54% disapproval rating among Americans today (Amadeo).
The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act brought the most significant changes to financial regulation in the United States since the reform that followed the Great Depression. It made changes in the American financial regulatory environment that affect all federal financial regulatory agencies and almost every part of the nation’s financial services industry. Like Glass-Steagall, the legislation passed after the Great Depression, it sought to regulate the financial markets and make another economic crisis less likely. Banks were deregulated in 1999 by the Gramm-Leach-Biley Act, which repealed the Glass-Steagall Act and essentially allowed for the excessive risk taken on by banks that caused the most recent financial crisis. The Financial Stability Oversight Council was established through the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act and was created to address the systemic risks in the United States financial system and to improve coordination among financial regulators.
In contempt of Obama’s humble giving spirit, vivid personality, and many accomplishments, a debate is always at hand upon hearing the infamous name Barack Hussein Obama. From his place of birth, religion, and ethnicity Obama’s face a fair share of controversy. At the heels of adversity along with sheer determination to help others Obama became a leader that delivers and one of the most influential people of America. Adversity was introduced to Obama at an early age. With a Kenyan father and Caucasian mother residing in Hawaii, Obama has always stood out in numerous ways. In 1959 Barack Obama Senior was selected from a number of candidates to go to school in the US where he attended The University of Hawaii in Honolulu to
America has many presidents who are still remembered with their legacies, but President Andrew Jackson’s presidency is a history of which the Native American will never forget. Jackson’s democracy was not in support for women to vote, and black men to join in armies. The people who paid the greatest price through his presidency were the Indian tribes, whom he forced to move from their land which belonged to their ancestors.
It was a brief speech that captivated a lot of matters that concern the American citizens exclusively and the world inclusively. He divided his speech into different sectors which are citizens’ sacrifice, the idea of service, adopting changes, promise of wealth, government harmony and dignity. The language used in the speech was flawless and applicable to the audience, who was the public, since he was using every day vocabulary. Therefore, the speech has a strong structure that can be easily understood by the majority of people. The audience typically will and was the American citizens, but since the United States has many international relationships, President Obama was trying to reach beyond the nationwide concerns and meet a mutual background....
High taxes to maintain the program seems to another reason the Republicans as opposing the issue as stated in the Huffing post (30th Jan 2014).With the high cost of living, the Obama Care program seems to rattle the middle class who fear to be subjected to high taxes so as to maintain the program.
On March 18, in the year 2008, Senator Barack Obama gave a speech titled “A More Perfect Union”. Obama spoke of unity and how it is a necessity if America is to succeed. He also spoke of ethnic tensions and explained how prominent of an issue racism is today. In the speech, Obama showed his love for the country and demonstrates skills all presidents should have.
One of the major unintended impacts of the Dodd-Frank Act has been on credit unions and community banks. These banks weathered the credit crisis and lost only 6% of their share of banking assets between 2006 and mid-2010. A recent Harvard study indicates that this decline accelerated to 12% since the passage of the Dodd-Frank in July 2010. [a] While the community banks’ earnings increased by 12% to $5.3 billion by mid 2015 the number of these banks had declined according to Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. The number of banks with assets under $1 billion has declined from around 7500 in 2010 to less than 6000 since Dodd-Frank came into effect. [b] Increased compliance costs due hiring of new personnel to interpret the new regulations compelled these banks to cut down on customer service amongst other things. The law hurt them disproportionately and forced them to consolidate. Regulatory economies of scale drive the process of consolidation. A larger bank is often more equipped at handling increased regulatory burdens
In his educational article, “How Barack Obama Rescued the US Economy,” Martin Wolf discusses how Obama managed to take America out of the Great Recession in spite of the negative assumptions made by Republicans (Wolf 1). With his strategic ideas and a great administration by his side, Obama proves that even as an African American, he is one of the greatest leaders in American History, if not the best. Throughout my exploration, this article was
Across the world, ordinary people find heroes that they aspire to imitate. Comic books portray heroes as super strong men in spandex suits, and although a three-year-old child might aspire to be superman, more mature audiences hopefully find more realistic figures to idolize. Take Barack Obama, the President of the United States; he worked his entire life to attain the highest position in our government, President. Obama was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth but to a single mother in Hawaii. Through hard work and motivation, he went to college and received an education at Columbia University. He later obtained a law degree from Harvard University and began working with the Democratic Party. In 1996 he was elected to the Illinois Senate and acquired a seat in the United State’s Senate in 2004. After only 5 years of experience in the Senate, he was elected the 44th president. Obama’s exponential growth in importance and power could only have been achieved by an exemplary man. His determination, intelligence, hard work, and professionalism all made his success attainable, and he should be admired for these traits. Every country has a national hero and Barack Obama is the United State’s.
When president Barack Obama first walked on the biggest stage in America eight years ago a lot of Americans did not trust his words of wisdom to carry, we the people to a better United States. On January 10, 2017 President Barack Obama walked back on that same big stage now known and loved by so many to give his last and final speech, his Farewell speech. All of the non believers were certainly awoken to the actions that were taken by president Barack Obama to achieve most of what he truly dedicated his life and career to. Obama worked hard to gain the love, respect and dedication by so many loyal americans today. It definitely was not an easy task to achieve, many trials and many errors. In this analysis I will state weather or not Obama’s
President was able step down from that pedestal and include millions of people into a narrative of American success and inspire them to take action to better the nation. “...the state of our Union is strong,” (Obama). He usage of the word our in his final sentence of his speech created a sense of inclusion in a wildly divided nation. He used stories like the assassination of Osama bin Laden to spark American pride, he talked about hard working families that struggle to make ends meet which is something millions of people relate to, and backed up all his points with solid facts and data. Cody Keenan and President Obama used pathos, ethos, and logos to appeal to millions of widely diverse individuals in order to improve the quality of the
To sum up, Obama has always been and will always be a great example of how to succeed in spite of difficulties or obstacles. Such a strong personality is worth to be admired. Obama has left me with positive feelings about the
‘We are an America family, and we rise or fall together, as one nation, and as one people.’ Obama had America on their feet. They were joined as one to applaud this great leader who wanted to complete his job in helping America reach their destiny. This is a clear message throughout his 2012 victory speech. The nation is fired up by his personal anecdotes and inspiration knowing it will be a great four years with a great leader.
