As a sheriff you are entitled to a lot of responsibilities and your job description is pretty spread out. Each sheriff is assigned their own sector which is an area they are assigned and have to patrol throughout the day or night. Sheriffs serve the public through crime prevention, they arrest offenders and take them in to the county jail as well as criminal investigation and investigate complaints, and execute warrants. They are also first responders for weather incidents, vehicle accidents, and medical emergencies. Sheriffs are responsible for court security as well. Sheriffs who do this are better known as bailiffs, bailiffs are responsible for maintaining order in the court room during a trail. They also do do little task
The Processes: The sheriff's office falls under county government. The agency that handles most personnel/human resource management (P/HRM) issues is the County Personnel Office (CPO). The CPO plays a key role in collective bargaining for the county with the various guilds/unions, and they are also involved in grievance issues concerning EEO complaints (workplace harassment, discrimination, unfair labor practices, etc.) The CPO is also responsible for the hiring and promotion processes for all career Civil Service positions in county level employment.
There are seven different types of correctional job assignments based on the location in the facility, job description, and the type of contact with inmates (Schmalleger & Smykla, 2015). These correctional assignments are block officers, work detail supervisors, industrial shop and school officers, yard officers, administrative officers, perimeter security officers, and relief officers (Schmalleger & Smykla, 2015).
People with money think they have the ability to get away with their unlawful actions, to buy their freedom. In the show Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, in the episode “Wonderland”, Sarah Walsh was a victim of rape. She was unaware of who had raped her but eventually found out her rapist appeared to be one of her “friends” who was very wealthy. He had paid off his other victims to keep him away from the title of a criminal. Throughout the show, you can see the way people with money think about their position and the law. In the episode “Wonderland” of Law and Order: SVU, the creator portrays that criminals with money are punished not as severely as average income people. The issue of people who believe,
Paying bail is not necessarily an incarcerated person's preferred way to spend money, but it is a necessary expense to get out of jail quickly. When you spend money on bail, may want to know if you can offset the cost by deducting the amount on your annual income tax return. The bail bond team at A & J Coggins Bonding, located in Covington, GA and serving residents in the Rockdale, Newton, and Walton Counties, explain if a bail bond is tax deductible.
A typical day for a Correctional Officer would be the preparing of inmates for court appearances. They also receive new inmates to the facility brought in by the Sheriffs Department. Each new inmate must be photographed and fingerprinted upon immediate arrival to the Pre Trial Centre. They are then stripped and fully searched inside and out. With that ...
The career of a correctional officer has always captivated me in a way that is difficult to explain. Even as a child, I recall tuning into shows such as Lockup and Lockdown. In fact, my earliest, most vivid memories consist of me sitting in front of a TV screen with my eyes mesmerized by the hardened criminals visioned on the screen before me. It may seem peculiar, but I’ve always pictured myself inside the prison walls. What’s even more peculiar is that I’ve seldom visioned myself as a correctional officer; in fact, I’ve almost always visioned myself as a prisoner. Given what’s been said, one may ask me why it is that I aspire to be a correctional officer. And the answer to that question is rather simple. I want to be a correctional officer because I thrive for a rush of euphoria to course through my veins. And being a correctional officer will allow an endless supply of euphoria to course through my veins. And with that said, I don’t need to further explain why such a career is what I long for.
Along with police officers, sheriffs face some of the same in the aspects of treating individuals fairly and handling situations properly. Sheriffs are unique when it comes to the jurisdictions and the responsibilities faced. In some way, sheriffs are simply police officers for the entire county. Sheriffs also correspond with police officers in certain areas and situations occurring in the county or a close by city. A difference from the city police is that the sheriffs have special units such as a dive and a search & rescue team. In addition to differences, head sheriffs are elected while most police chiefs of a city or town are appointed, with some exceptions. Stereotypes of sheriffs usually range, “overweight” or even “cowboy like”. Along with those, sheriffs share the same stereotypes as police officers. Such as individuals who do nothing but consume doughnuts and coffee while sleeping on the job. For certain law enforcement departments to have highly trained and skilled units, these stereotypes have to be exaggerated. Also such responsibilities of a sheriff provide little to no time to sit hours on end to sleep and consume food. A sheriff has a responsibility to patrol the vast area that a county covers. Including that fact, sheriffs also maintain the county prison as well as venture to cities in the county to assist local authorities with cases and
The primary duty of a police officer is to protect the public (Duties of a Police Officer. 2015.). To accomplish this task, police officers are assigned specific job duties on a daily basis, which vary depending on the size and type of their department. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, common duties of a police officer include patrolling designated areas, answering calls for help, enforcing laws, arresting suspected criminals, issuing citations, testifying in court and conducting traffic stops. Police officers also complete detailed reports regarding incidents after all traffic stops or house calls (Duties of a Police Officer.
Along with these duties they must maintain case management files and field notes. Their job requires them to compile data, track and monitor offender data. Without this responsibility an offender would be able to go wherever they wanted. monitors and ensures payments of restitution and cost of supervision fees from offenders; serves as duty officer; completes monthly reports; monitors and enforces sex offender registration; may supervise staff; may perform additional duties such as lead probation and parole officer, field training officer, firearms instructor.
County commissioners come from many different backgrounds, such as jobs or home lives. They can be nurses, doctors, farmers, lawyers, teachers, etc. They are elected officials. Basically, their job is to keep the county efficient. Without them it would be chaos.
Law enforcement has many roles in the criminal justice process. The duties preformed by police officers include traffic citations, criminal investigations, emergency response, and crime prevention. Police officers are here to enforce all laws that are set by the government. When police officers encounter
The act of electing a sheriff is such a long process. Also, if the sheriff does not uphold his duties, there is no way to get rid of him. Electing them creates a greater margin of failure. If one candidate is popular among the city, or county, then that candidate is most likely to win, no matter what his credentials are! Hiring the officials would be a fast process, and create a greater chance of success. Also, if they turn out to be insufficient, then the firing process would be easy. Hiring them allows the authorities to appoint someone who meets the right standards by reviewing their applications, interviewing them, and confirming that they are capable of upholding the law. In many different ways hiring the sheriffs would be much more successful than electing
Crime is everywhere and it takes a special group or team of people to stop it, or make crime less tempting to do. The main job of police and security officers is to maintain justice, order and peace. In order to keep peace police officers must go through an academy that will prepare them for most situations that they will have to face later on in their career. Some situations require a more intense way to solve a problem such as using force or putting the perpetrator in fear so they will give in to what the police are asking. In some cases the peretrator(s) are too volatile or risky for the basic trained police officer, so the swat team must be used. The swat team unit or “special weapons and tactics” is a higher trained police force. It is a select group of officers that have been through more training and more experience than the average cop. Without the police or security civilians may not feel as safe as they do now when they are walking in the streets or going to a public event. For the people who want to be part of such a unit and are willing to put people before themselves will need to know what it takes to be a police officer.
MILLERSBURG — Accused of burglarizing a Holmes County greenhouse, two Wayne County residents were taken into custody Friday.
In Intro to Criminal Justice class, I had the opportunity to learn about the Criminal Justice System more thoroughly. I learned that there are three components that make up the Criminal Justice System such as the courts, law enforcement, and corrections. Each component has its own role in making sure the the Criminal Justice System is functioning properly. If one of these components are not efficient the Criminal Justice system will not be as strong as it could be.
