Throughout the English 191 course, my writing technique has slightly improved. The essay responses created each week, made me think critically about the writing in Back To The Lake. The book gave me good examples of different situations, aims, and purposes in writing. The textbook helped show what could go into my essays and how to use them. I also liked how the book set up sentences for specific subjects. One of the most memorable essays was “Dog” by Richard Russo. It seemed to be a happy story about how a boy really wants a dog but it then it turned grim and the dog died. The personal essay made me recall memories that I had forgotten. I wanted to sound more professional, yet understandable. I learned valuable information from this assignment for my future career in nursing. The most beneficial writing piece in this course was the persuasive argument essay. I learned how to link my opinions with the facts and statistics I researched. Although I had most of the background information from the previous essay, I still had to interpret my findings. With several supportive facts and statistics, I gradually developed my main points and a critical perspective. I have also improved on evaluation and revision of my work along with other’s work. I enjoyed reading other people’s essays because it gave me incite to what I was missing in my paper. I also liked to evaluate their essays, so that I could see what was grammatically correct in different ways. In the rhetorical analysis essay, it was nice to see how other people interpreted the same thing, in different ways. The different types of writing in this course made me focus on the details. As time progressed I could see that the more time I took to edit my work, the more they turned out
