Australia is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world, with a unique history shaping the diversity of the people, their cultures and lifestyles [8]. It’s possible to find any food desired in Australia, due to the vast multicultural society. Migrants from all over have immigrated to Australia, bring their culinary traditions and creating an abundance of fresh food all year round in Australia [6]. This leads to the statement “Australia doesn’t have its own cuisine; it just borrows from the neighbours”, relating to Area of Study 4: Sociocultural Influences, as Australian cuisine has been influenced by a wide variety of cultural groups over the past two centuries. However, this isn’t a new trend and originated around the 1970s. Wolfgang Puck laid the foundation for the technique, combining European with Asian cuisine [7]. In Australia, fusion cooking stemmed from the multiculturalism of society, where cultural integration is more predominant and people are more accepting of combining dishes [7]. Fusion cooking is important for the industry as it brings together two or more of the best culinary cultures creating beautiful dishes and bring cultures closer, as stated by Furini [1]. Furiri, believes it’s crucial for the Food and Hospitality industry to have new trends to continue developing new skills, knowledge and increasing customers’ options when dining, while maintaining traditional roots
In Lavanya Ramanathan’s Washington Post article published in 2015 titled “Why everyone should stop calling immigrant food ‘ethnic’”, she discusses about people’s preconceptions on the type of food that should be labelled ethnic. Ashlie Stevens also touched on a similar topic in her Guardian article published in 2015 titled “Stop thinking and just eat: when ‘food adventuring’ trivializes culture”. She talks about how people assume that just by eating food from a certain culture, they are able relate to the culture as a whole. Both authors acknowledge the importance of appreciating authentic cuisines, but takes different approaches to convince the audience. In Michael Pollan’s “The End of Cooking” shares the message of what we are losing something important in this day and age because of all our pre-made and processed foods. This can be compared with Kothari’s “If You Are What You Eat, What Am I?” and her argument that food is part of one’s own identity. By using the examples from these two texts you can analyze the state of food and culture in the United States today. All of the processed and pre-made foods are causing people all across America to lose their sense of Culture. We no longer know what it’s like to make one of our cultures specialty dishes from scratch which can help people identify with their culture. This process helped newer generations see what it was like for those before them to cook on a daily basis and could help them identify your sense of culture.

There’s a lot more to being Italian than the typical stereotypes that we have come to know from movies, television and books. From the Catholic mobsters who kill during the week but always make it to mass on Sunday, to the “how you doin” views of Joey from the television show “Friends”, people often forget the more important parts of being Italian. It is a culture like no other, full of history, art, and most importantly, their passion for food. Italian food, in my opinion, is the best in the world. Italians put so much into everything they make that the time and effort is tasted with every single bite. One of my favorite dishes would have to be fettuccini alfredo and it just happens to be a fairly easy, but extremely delicious, dish to make. Trust me, if I can make it, you can make it.
As previously mentioned, food was traditionally considered as a mere means of subsistence, especially in the 17th and 18th centuries. The early history of food involved its use to define shared identities and reflected religious and group customs. Furthermore, food was filled with psychological, cultural, religious, and emotional significance. During this period, a unique court tradition of cuisine and sophisticated table manners emerged to distinguish the social elite from the ordinary people. However, during the 19th century, the history of food slightly changed as it became a defining symbol of national identity. This period was characterized by the association of several dishes to particular countries and cultures (Mintz, par 1). For instance, American hamburger and tomato-based Italian spaghetti are cultural foods that were in...
The delicious smells of fresh Italian foods waft through the air as we look over our menus,
When I think about Italy, food and wine come to mind. Many foods we love are part of the Italian culture, pizza, pasta, cheese, and some desserts. Wine is one of my favorites and there is plenty of it in Italy. Some people in Italy make a living from having wineries. These people have hundreds of acres of land full of grape vines. Most of the wine we drink in America comes from Italy. “Italy is also now the largest exporter of wine a...
Everything has an origin, a time and a place of its beginning. A lot of things have happened over the course of two millennia’s. The origin of Italian cuisine dates back centuries and over time is has evolved due to political and social changes within Italy and Europe. During the time the Roman Empire controlled many territories and provinces. Italy was among theses territories, and during which time its people generated one of the greatest cuisines in the world. Each territory and providence displayed their individually with their own unique way of cooking. (Steendahl, Par.3). Every town has a distinctive way of making sausage, special kinds of cheese and wine, and a local type of bread. Even if one were to ask around just one town or providence how to make tomato sauce. Variations within the methods and ingredients will be the answers. (Volpi, ...

The movie “The Hundred Foot Journey” is a great representation of different cultures interacting as well as the different food habits. The movie is based on an Indian family who moves to Italy and wants to open an Indian restaurant across street from a famous Italian restaurant in the small town. The Kadam family wants to bring the Indian cuisine to a new culture and share some of their values. They have trouble expanding their culinary delights to the public because Marquerite the sous-chef doesn’t want any competition. Throughout the movie, secrets on certain dishes are shared and tricks to improve the certain style of food is greatly appreciated by both restaurant chefs.
There has been exponential rise in the number of eateries in most of the towns worldwide. This is partly brought about by the ballooning urban population, as well as the emergence of working middle class population who find themselves tied up by work in the cities they reside.
Hospitality is the relation between the guest and host, or the act or the practice of being hospitable. This includes the reception, entertainment and generally looking after the guests, visitors or strangers. The word hospitality is derived from the Latin hospes which means “host”, “guest”, or “stranger”. Hospes is formed from hostis which means stranger. Today in many areas hospitality has developed in various ways, no two ways of hospitality are the same such as in India the term atithi devo bhava is used and guest is considered god like and we are told to respect them as such by touching their feet, in other countries such as the western people prefer a handshake and hospitality is more formal. This is one of the few industries that are directly involved with serving its customers in many significant areas for their wellness that are eating, drinking and sleeping which are some of the most important needs of an individual that a hospitality professional looks after, these are basic things we can provide but the times are changing we are in the 21st century now and the hospitality industry has as any industry been heavily impacted by it. Technology today has completely changed the industry which is why it is important to see which sectors have been affected, where many things have been changed and a new generation of professionals has emerged, which understands it and continues to expand it. This project has given me a new insight into the types of technology that are emerging to improve not only the experience of the guest but also the employees in this industry and their employers. This is why I have chosen five technologies which vary in functioning and development the technologies are Global Positioning Sys...
Some time ago Somerset Maugham said that "to eat well in England, you should have breakfast three times a day.' To be perfectly honest, most British food was considered by many people as terrible. It included overcooked vegetables, boring sandwiches and greasy sausages. It was definitely not an enjoyable experience. However, these are now only stereotypes. Things have changed a lot and food has become very important in British culture. Not only TV cooks are more famous than writers, but also their recipes and books are well-known across the Europe. The New British cuisine' is changing the fish and chips' image and has become multicultural. There are about 80 different international cuisines and British restaurants may compete with those anywhere in the world in terms of price and quality.
