Australian Involvement In Ww2 Analysis

World War II was an unprecedented global war which occurred on the 1st of September , 1939 and drew to a close on 2nd of September 1945. The invasion of Poland by the Germans provoked the outbreak of World War II which involved a large majority of countries including all of the great powers which then led to the formation of the two opposing alliances the Axis and the Allies. Australia’s involvement in the war was due to the following reasons which was their need to support their mother country which is Britain , Economic and financial issues and Foreign policy issues.

Australian involvement in World War II was drawn by their relationship with Britain. Due to Australia’s and Britain’s bond , Australians were expected to support and provide

help for them when they declared war on Germany. Australia maintains their British heritage through the culture and traditions as their affection of England ran deep . “Fellow Australians, it is my melancholy duty to inform you officially, that in consequence of a persistence by Germany in her invasion of Poland, Great Britain has declared war upon her and that, as a result, Australia is also at war” this quote comes from Robert Menzies‘ speech on the third of September 1939 announcing Australia’s contribution to the war as a result of their bond with Britain. Menzies was a prominent figure at the time to the British and Australians and was supported due to his primary belief that Australia should support Britain in war. Britain was known to be Australia’s main source of defence as it was known as the mother country of Australia. Australia was known to have the responsibility of assisting Britain when their empire was threatened as Australia was a loyal member of the British Empire. Australians followed Britain expecting Britain to aid them when they are threatened and attacked by Japan.

World War Two had a significant impact on the Australian economy, and permanently changed the way the economy was run. Another contributing factor which caused Australia to become involved in the war was their economic and financial issues during the period of the Great Depression .The Great Depression was a severe global economic depression that occurred in the late 20’s and lasted until the late 30’s. The Great Depression's impact on Australian society was devastating. Due to unemployment it provoked the aggravation of financial and economical issues.The Great Depression had provoked the significant increase in unemployment and homelessness. Australians believed that the war industries provided them with wide range of employment opportunities. A minority of Australian men who had enlisted had a belief that they would gain better wages rather than elsewhere due to the range of employment in the war industries.

Due to the development of aggression in Japan and the utilization of China and South East Asia’s resources , Australia’s security was threatened. The Australian population was small and encountered difficulties with defending its vast coastline. The increase of nervousness was a result of the Coral Sea and Papua New Guinea becoming
