Some athletes believe they can skip out on the hard work and he training by taking performance enhancing drugs. I do not agree with this opinion. Being an athlete is about being the best you can be but the means of doing so are through hard work and dedication. Athletes need to work hard and only by working hard can an athlete truly feel accomplished. By taking a performance enhancing drug an athlete does not have to train like they would if they didn’t. They may believe they are making themselves better. But in the reality of the situation, those athletes are cheating themselves. Performance enhancing drugs are not allowed. If you’re caught, you will be in big trouble. Why would someone want to risk their career by taking a drug? Yet, many athletes still take these enhancement drugs. From football players like Richard Sherman to body builders like Arnold Schwarzenegger, to even bikers like Lance Armstrong. As it turns out, baseball has the most steroid users. Baseball also seems to be the sport who takes the most action against the players who use PEDs. Athlete Alex Rodriguez has a 211 game suspension because of PEDs. Imagine working your hardest with the goals of living your dreams as a pro. Now think how it would feel if it was all stripped away because of a simple action. Athletes need to learn to be disciplined. Taking a PED can make you bigger, stronger, and faster, but at what cost. The use of performance enhancing drugs has a long-term negative affect on the body. So you have to weigh out your health risks. Another Major point is upholding sportsmanship. There are certain values that are broken when an athlete takes performance enhancing drugs. These range from fair play to just having fun.
