There is a difference between working very hard to see progress and finding an alternative way to see ultimate progress. Most athletes love to work out to get bigger and better at their certain sport, there training for but you also have athletes who would go beyond extra to see improvements while still lifting or training and that extra way is called steroids. It 's a common drug that has its pros for athletes use to improve athletic ability, improves muscular strength and performance. Now, steroids have its cons as well, you could get arrested for using them illegally, can damage organs and veins and also damage your growth. You see, it 's not what athletics aspect, but it has happened even its good or bad. You highly hear that pro sport …show more content…
By taking steroids, significant change will happen to your body that will appear after a couple of doses and lifting. Bodybuilder’s are an example of daily muscle strength by lifting and using steroids at the same time. Bodybuilding is even a sport that’s televised as a competition show, and will notice how strong and muscular they are. Don’t think that’s all training with no alternative way. Most builders use types of steroids to get to where they are now. Effectiveness is the better performance of a certain sport or training program. Professional baseball players are more likely to use steroids for better performance. In most cases, it helps most professionals to get their weight up quicker or muscular pumped throughout the process. Athletes usually take steroids during their off-season of their certain sport there doing, and will use that off-season to lift way more and do way more training they ever done to see much progress. These pros are most likely the main effectiveness of athletes and body builders who use …show more content…
Mood disorders occur more often in these cases, due to hallucinations, delusions, and incomplete thoughts. Children receiving anabolic steroids have elevated levels of depression and anxiety, as well as aggression, fatigue, and tears. These effects happen more often as behavioral changes. Patients with recurrent anabolic steroids induced mood disorders have high psychotic traits. That causes problems in depressed, manic, or mixed states including suicide. Antidepressants help in some cases, but may cause agitation or psychosis. Most patients will be cured if doctors reduce their dosage or if they discontinue the anabolic steroids. Steroids can also cause cancer. For example, testicular cancer, also called, malignant neoplasm of testis, is cancer that starts in the male organs that make male hormones and sperm (testicles). Risks of this cancer include; White American men between the ages of 20 and 34 are more likely to get it than any other race, infection with the human immunodeficiency virus, and lastly is having undescended testicles. Stay away from anabolic steroids to reduce your chances of getting
One way steroids affect players is the effect on the mind and mental health of users. When baseball players take steroids, they put their bodies at risk. The risks include psychiatric symptoms such as bipolar disorder (Mitchell 55). Studies have shown that if baseball players get involved with steroids, there is strong chance they will experience symptoms like bipolar disorder or severe depression. Steroids also affect the cardiovascular system. They can cause heart attacks and increased or decreased cholesterol levels, and also cause the heart to become enlarged (Mitchell 55). The cardiovascular system faces tragic effects when people decide to use steroids. The liver is affected by steroids also, as the liver can become impaired, become cancerous, and thus cause skin to yellow (Mitchell 55). The f...
...o end this, programs need to encourage athletes to achieve similar effects of steroids through diet, exercise, nutrition, and strength training. Through awareness and support, anabolic steroid abuse can come to an end, preventing professional athletes from destroying their careers for something bigger and better. Despite how it may look, steroids do not help an athlete reach their full potential, but eventually destroys the outstanding natural abilities they were born with.

Every year high school, college, and professional athletes try to get just ?a little bigger,??a little stronger,? and to increase the amount of weights they lift by, ?just a few pounds.? To achieve these goals athletes often turn to anabolic steroids to aid them in achieving their goals. Anabolic steroids are a quick, but dangerous way to increase muscle mass, and they can carry many risks including some life threatening side affects. Years after taking steroids athletes can live to have serious heart problems, sterility, or possibly not even live, all because of foolish decisions they made in the past. These potentially fatal drugs are not widely known by young athletes at all, because they don?t know about the risks that can go along with them. In school, every student is taught about marijuana, cocaine, heroin, sex, liquor, and all those other health risks, but they?re never taught about ?roids? or ?juice.? (slang words for steroids) That should be changed, because it is known that student athletes often use steroids, not knowing the risks. Many times they take the risk because they hear about professional athletes taking steroids. But, despite their widespread use in sports, steroids can have more negative than positive effects on athletes of all types. Steroids are chemical substances that can be made naturally by the body or produced synthetically. There are many different types of steroids that are used for different things other than just athletes enhancing muscles. For example, there are types of steroids that can be used by women as birth control pills, and other types that are used for menopause treatment. The abuse of steroids is almost always found to be in the case of athletes, and that is the focus of this paper. ?All anabolic steroids are synthetic compounds whose molecular structure is similar to that of the natural male sex hormone testosterone. Testosterone affects development of the male body in two important ways: it has an anabolic effect - increases growth, especially of muscular and skeletal tissue - And an androgenic effect - increased development of male sexual characteristics. Anabolic steroids are constructed stythetically in such a way that they maximize the anabolic effect of testosterone while minimizing the androgenic effect.? The way that steroids work can easily be interpreted by a foo...
There are many types of steroids abused by athletes in order to increase their muscle mass and strength. Though steroids have a negative reputation, there are some that can be beneficial to athletes and certain patients. There are types of steroids called corticosteroids that have more medical uses to them and another type called anabolic-androgenic steroids that have a more limited medical use. The anabolic-androgenic are usually the steroids that are being abused by athletes (Bigelow, par.10). The use of steroids goes back to the end of World War II around the 1940’s. Doctors were giving the freed prisoners from the Nazi concentration camps that were at risk of death anabolic-androgenic steroids to help gain back their muscle mass and weight faster. From this knowledge, steroids began to be used by body builders and athletes to get more fit than they already were. It is believed that the abuse of the steroids started in the late 1940’s by weight lifters and bodybuilders, and by the 1950’s, it was spread to the Olympics (Bigelow, par.11). Any type of steroid should not be used if they are only going to be abused by being used in large doses with the intentions of increasing lean muscle mass and strength (Bigelow, par.11). After years of abuse of anabolic-androgenic steroids in the Olympics they were added to the list of banned substances and random testing of athletes were announced to start taking place (Bigelow, par.35).
Athletes often abuse this drug to help build muscle and improve athletic performance. This is illegal and dangerous to do to your body. Most athletes use steroids to gain an advantage on their opponent so they will become better than them. This may help them short term become better. However, in the long run, their body may pay for the abuse of steroids. Many people do not understand the dangers they could face while taking steroids. These dangers, along with the drug being illegal, could definitely lead to the wrong path for anyone. Players use steroids to get more muscles so they can hit the ball farther and get more home runs, run faster, or even have th...
As time passes and education and science continue to evolve and change this world into something that many people never thought would be possible, there are many positives but there are also a lot of negatives that resulted (Helmenstine). As science continually comes out with new kinds of medication and performance enhancing drugs the sports world has to continue to expand with them. Every year hundreds of more drugs become part of our society and as they continue to become available, sports continue to struggle with keeping up. When steroids first became known to the world they really weren’t anything to worry about because the science was not what it is today. As a result, the performance enhancing drugs then did not provide athletes with the amount of strength they provide them with now. Steroids have been proven to be the m...
We all have seen a bodybuilders physic, whether it was in a magazine, the media, or in the gym. As we despise their freakish look we still wish that we had a body like them. But the reason we don’t look like that is because we know that the long term effects of steroids in will damage our bodies. Steroids have been a common use throughout human history since 1889. The fact that it’s illegal doesn’t seem to bother many users. Generations today are more reliant on this drug for various reasons, without realizing the consequences and long term effects that can result. Steroids are a way of cheating to reach your goals. Steroids are addictive, and over a short period of time they destroy the liver as well as the kidneys, affect personalities, and cause hormonal imbalances. Steroids present a higher risk than the person may understand due to their wide spread availability, and pressures to look perfect.
While the effects of steroids can seem desirable at first, there are serious side effects. Excessive use can cause a harmful imbalance in the body's normal hormonal balance and body chemistry. Heart attacks, water retention leading to high blood pressure and stroke, and liver and kidney tumors all are possible. Young people may develop and a halting of bone growth. Males may experience shrinking testicles, falling sperm counts, and enlarged prostates. Women frequently show signs of masculinity and may be at higher risk for certain types of and the possibility of birth defects in their children. The psychological effects of steroid use are also alarming: drastic mood swings, inability to sleep, and feelings of hostility. Steroids may also be psychologically addictive. Once started, users, particularly athletes, enjoy the physical "benefits" of increased size, strength, and endurance so much that they are reluctant to stop even when told about the risks. Major athletic competitions, including the Olympics, routinely screen athletes to prevent steroid use.
Some of the ill effects of the drugs are damage to the kidneys and liver. A person can also alter the balance of the natural hormones. This can cause detrimental affects to the body. The effects of you natural hormones being out of balance can last several years after being off the drugs. Some male user form breasts due to the use of steroids. Because of the increase in testosterone, steroids can cause serious acne problems. When used by teens is can cause stunted growth. Other side effects include genital changes, water retention, yellow eyes, coronary artery disease, ligament injuries, high blood pressure, changes in cholesterol levels, sterility and liver disease. The list goes on and on. Women that use steroids run the risk of male pattern baldness. Some effects of steroids are even worse. Some people fall into comas after injecting the drugs, some may even die from the injections (Kalawalski 13-15).
My issue over the concern of athletes have been struggling with the usage of steroids has widely spread among athletes and others; not only do steroids give an athlete a hard times but it’s also an unfair advantage to the other athletes and what they’ve accomplish. “Besides making muscles bigger, anabolic steroids may help athletes recover from a hard workout more quickly by reducing the amount of muscle damage during the session” (“Steroids in Sports”,2005). Now a days steroids are everywhere as an athlete. Many males and female young athletes preferably take it because they want to look and feel good when it comes to impressing someone and trying to become someone they look forward too. Young teens and adults try to cheat themselves in the career of their dreams. When it comes to a sport, teen athletes are not aware of what type of consequences may happen to them at the time. It may come to the time where it’s too late to take care of. In other cases, some athletes may like feeling the aggressive they get when they take drugs such as steroids. Athletes shouldn’t take steroids as the harmful health effects of the anabolic steroid in population wise. Many people have had their lives ruined by the use of illegal steroids and yet the desired effects are overwhelming that people tend to forget about the results and consequences that may effect. Athletes on steroids believe taking steroids will enhance their performance, strength, and size without having to put necessary work. These benefits, however, are associated with much short-term and long term risk.
Steroids are being used more commonly today in normal people's lives. They are also being used so athletes can become stronger, but they have many consequences that follow the advantages. Most people believe that steroids are a false measurement of an athletes ability, and others believe that steroids are good because athletes can become stronger and make their sports more exciting to watch. This is a very important issue today because athletes today are using steroids to gain an unfair advantage over the other athletes.
Steroids are typically used to build muscle and make you feel great...temporarily, but aren’t that good for you in the long run. When you take steroids for a long period of time, it can lead to anger/aggression, paranoia, delusions and heart attacks. They are typically abused by many athletes. A report from CNN states that the number of athletes that “dope” have dropped dramatically in the past 40 years. Huge franchises like the NFL, MLB, and the International Olympic Committee noticed the performance changes in the athletes. To keep other players safe and maintain a fair game, they started drug testing them and sure enough, their assumptions were right.
Some benefits for athletes include, increase in strength, enhance athletic performance and quicker recovery from injuries (Sports and Drug Use). Some athletes are lazy and want to get in shape faster by taking drugs. In Anabolic Steroids, it states that people use steroids to gain strength and lose body fat. In an article, it says, “Anabolic steroids may help athletes recover from a hard workout more quickly by reducing the muscle damage that occurs during the session. This enables athletes to work out harder and more frequently without overtraining” (Performance- enhancing drugs: know the risks). People can recover from hard workouts quicker by using steroids. “When inflammation threatens to damage critical body organs, steroids can be organ saving and, in many instances, life-saving. For example, they may help prevent the progression of kidney inflammation, which can lead to kidney failure in people who have lupus or vasculitis. For these people, steroid therapy may eliminate the need for kidney dialysis or transplant” (Steroids to Treat Arthritis). Steroids can help people have the need to not get a transplant or dialysis. “When taken in these very high doses, anabolic-androgenic steroids can produce dramatic increases in muscle mass and strength, making it possible for users to far exceed the upper limits of muscularity attainable under natural conditions, without these drugs.
Another dangerous substance is anabolic steroids. People use anabolic steroids as an illegal way to enhance their testosterone within their body as well as increase their muscle mass. Every time someone uses anabolic steroids it is considered abuse because using anabolic steroids is never recommended for you by any officials. Side effects of the drug can result in paranoid jealousy, extreme irritability, delusions, and impaired judgment from a large ego. (Steroids) Long term effects include euphoria, confusion, sleeping disorders, pathological anxiety, paranoia, and hallucinations.
