Objectives of the study • To assess the effectiveness of video assisted teaching on knowledge regarding home care management among patients diagnosed with Acute Coronary Syndrome. • To determine the association between pretest knowledge scores with selected demographic variables. Operational definitions Effectiveness Effectiveness means the degree to which something is successful in producing a desired result.1 In this study effectiveness refers as the improvement in level of knowledge among patients diagnosed with acute coronary …show more content…
syndrome in cardiology ward after attending video assisted teaching program. Knowledge Knowledge is a familiarity, awareness, or understanding of someone or something, such as facts, information, descriptions, or skills, which is acquired through experience or education by perceiving, discovering, or learning.1 In this study knowledge is the subject response to questions on video assisted teaching regarding home care management as measured through structured knowledge questionnaire. Acute coronary syndrome Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) is a syndrome (set of signs and symptoms) due to decreased blood flow in the coronary arteries such that part of the heart muscle is unable to function properly or dies.1 In this study it refers to patients who are first time diagnosed with Myocardial infarction, Angina pectoris, and Coronary artery disease. Video assisted teaching It refers to the method of estimating and interpreting the effectiveness of Video assted programme regarding Acute Coronary syndrome.1 In this study, video assisted teaching refers to the systematic video teaching about home care management. Home care management A health service provided in the patient’s place of residence for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health or minimizing the effects of illness and disability.1 In this study, health means service provided in the patient’s place of residence for the purpose of promoting, maintaining, or restoring health or minimizing the effects of illness and disability about exercises, diet, complementary and alternative therapies, use and storage of medications and lifestyle modifications. Hypotheses All hypotheses will be tested at 0.05 level of significance. H1- There is significant difference between the mean pretest and posttest knowledge scores of patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome in experimental group. H2- There is significant difference in the mean posttest knowledge scores in the experimental and control group. H3- There is significant association between pretest levels of knowledge with selected demographic variables like Age, Gender, Education, Occupation, Monthly Income, Diet and Habit.
Conceptual framework Concepts are abstract ideas, or mental images of phenomenon or reality. It gives direction for planning research design, data collection and interpretation of findings. Conceptual framework refers to interrelated concepts or obstructions that are assembled together in some rational scheme by virtue of their relevance to a common theme. In this study Callista Roy’s adaptation model is adopted. According to Roy, man is a unified bio physiological system in constant interaction with the changing environment, an interaction that requires him to make continual adaptation. When the demands of the environmental Stimuli are too great or person is adaptive mechanism is too low, then the person’s behavioural responses are ineffective or copying. Roy views the person as adaptive system that function as a Whole through inter dependence of it parts. The adaptive system consisted of input, control process, output and feedback. Inputs Inputs are the stimuli from the external environment and the internal self which includes information from cognator and regulator mechanism. Stimuli are classified as focal, contextual and
regulator. Focal stimuli are the stimulus which immediately confront the person and one to which the client must make an adaptive response. In this research study Acute coronary syndrome is considered as a focal stimulus. Contextual stimuli are all other stimuli present in the person or in the environment. In this study the contextual stimuli are age, sex, occupation, education, diet and habit. Residual stimuli are beliefs, attitudes and traits that influence the person’s present situation. In this study, residual stimuli are Monthly income. Control process The control process includes both the biological and psychological coping mechanism of the person and cognator regulator responses. Output Output is adaptive or ineffective behavioural responses that are conveyed to the system. The coping mechanism of cognator and regulator subsystem through video assisted teaching regarding acute coronary syndrome. The investigator will give video assisted teaching to all selected sample. The adaptive responses among selected sample is to improve the knowledge. Each person’s ability to adapt to a changing stimulus is determined by the person’s adaptation level. Regulator and cognator are two basic internal processes used in adapting and produce behavioural responses in four effectors modes- physiological, self concept, role function and inter dependence mode. According to Roy’s adaptation model, the goal of nursing is to promote adaptive client responses in relation to four adaptive modes.

It is frequently expressed by stroke patients and caregivers that they have not been afforded the suitable information related to stroke, treatments, or post discharge management and recovery, and that the information conveyed is perceived as insufficient and complex. The problem is that there is a failure of healthcare professionals in identifying the learning needs of stroke patients associated with a deficiency in knowledge of just how to access and communicate this crucial information. Indeed, while patient education can be time consuming and nurses may not be properly trained in stroke education it is a nursing duty to provide these teachings to patients and caregivers prior to discharge. This paper will propose an educational plan intended to train, assist, and support nursing staff responsible for stroke patient education, in providing accurate, individualized, guideline based stroke education to patients and families prior to discharge. This plan
Coronary heart disease is a common term for the build-up of plaque in the heart’s arteries that could lead to heart attack (Coronary Heart Disease, 2017). Furthermore, there are many known coronary heart disease factors that can be controlled. These are high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes and pre-diabetes, obesity, smoking, lack of physical activity, unhealthy diet and stress (Coronary Heart Disease Factors, n.d). The techniques of motivational interviewing are more persuasive than coercive and more supportive than argumentative. The motivational interviewer must advance with a firm sense of purpose, clear methods and skills for seeking that purpose, and a sense of timing to mediate in specific ways at quick brief periods of time (Miller and Rollnick, 1991). The clinician uses motivational interviewing on account of four general principles in mind. The key principles are to express empathy, avoid argument, roll with resistance and support self-efficacy (Treatment, C. for S. A.,
Man is the product of heredity and environment and that he acts as his machine responds to outside stimuli and nothing else, seem amply proven by the evolution and history of man. Every process of nature and life is a continuous sequence of cause and effect (156).

Patient knowledge has been shown to influence outcomes for stroke patients. A number of studies have indicated that delays to emergency department presentation due to a lack of patient knowledge regarding stroke is the main reason for exclusion from treatment (Chan et al, 2010; Kothari et al, 1997; Panagos, 2008). A prospective study performed by Kothari et al (1997) showed that 40% of stroke patients questioned had no knowledge of any stroke symptoms. Both Chan et al (2010) and Kothari et al (1997) propose that public education regarding stroke is needed to increase the positive outcome for these patients. In the study performed by ...

One of the most important elements in discharge teaching is the concept of health literacy. This can be defined as: “…the ability of the patient to understand and obtain basic health information services,” (Kornburger, 2013 p. 288). This information is to help patient better understand about their illness and treatment. Another research done by Weiss (2007) states that, “The relationship between limited health literacy and poorer health occurs in all socioeconomic groups and in many disease states”. This researcher also adds that 89 to 90 million adults in the United States have limited health literacy. Given this data, it is possible ...
It is up to the healthcare professionals to assess and evaluate the patient's learning needs and readiness to learn because everyone learns differently. Healthcare is very sensitive industry because human life is attached to it. Barriers during teaching patients or learning for patients might cost life and law suite. For example, if the patient is sick, the probability for the client to have the interest to learn is unlikely. Therefore, I have to ask the patient what he needs and what interest him from other healthcare professional around. By doing so, I can increase the interest of the client/patient to learn the information I am looking to provide him/her/them. Therefore, by gathering important information from the patients how best they prefer to receive the information and involving other health care team on finding out the effective way of the information can be productive are the best way to overcome the barriers of learning in healthcare
Any learning that occurs should focus on treatments, tests, and minimizing pain and discomfort as they improve they can shift their focus of learning (Kitchie, 2014, p.127). I will continue to provide a meeting location that is both comfortable and private. In the emotional aspect of M.M. and her family I will try to identify moments when members feel emotionally supported as it sets the stage for a teachable moment (Miller & Nigolian, 2011, p.56). I will also discuss with each member their previous coping strategies that used that have been successful and to encourage them to find a way to build on and strengthen these qualities. Using teaching methods that are interactive and allow patients equal contributions and participation can help promote health compliance (Habel, 2005,
Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) has been a truly evolving and expanding standard for the practice of medicine and healthcare around the world. This expanding body of knowledge and expertise has been melded into medicine becoming the gold standard of care, in addition to possibly the only manageable way to extract precise and up to date clinical information. The evolution of EBM has been thoroughly evolving since its inception into the lexicon of mindset of medicine. It is believed that Evidence based medicine is relatively new to the practice of medicine, the initial exposure is dated only to the 1970’s, and its implementation to the 1990’s, as far as many researchers can deduce,1 given what the body of research has presented. Given its relative infancy in the overall practice of medicine it has truly become intertwined in the evolution of clinical education and clinical medicine. With the preponderance of research and clinical studies in healthcare, the future of competent and effective healthcare is completely dependent upon the utilization of EBM. The current status of the physician assistant is and will be to continue to incorporate EBM in the education of its’ students and will proceed to effortlessly employ EBM in daily clinical practice.

The impact of educational in-home videos on self-care behaviors in patients with heart failure has not been well studied. Veroff and colleagues (2012) conducted a study that included a Living with Heart Failure DVD and accompanying booklet to assess whether or not in-home videos would increase self-care in patients with heart failure. It was concluded that the DVD and booklet had a positive impact on patient’s self-care behaviors. Patient educational aids in DVD format are a more economical form of disease management, delivery compared to in-person, clinician led programs. Having a DVD and booklet is less costly and puts a lasting source of evidence-based information directly in the patient’s hands. The average cost of a multidisciplinary
IEP stands for Individualized Education Program. An IEP is a written document required for each child who is eligible to receive special education services. It is provided to a student who has been determined first to have a disability, and second, to need special education services because of that disability. An IEP is very important and should never be overlooked by anyone. The purpose of an IEP is to make sure that only students whose educational performance is affected by a disability receive special services. An individual program plan is designed to make sure that students get the kind of educational experience that they deserve; an experience that results in success. The end goals for students who are on an IEP are to be involved in
