There are many different social media networks this day in time. The most popular ones in 2014 are Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Facebook is used to stay in touch with family and friends worldwide. Many people always stay in touch with their old high school friends which is a great tool since years ago there wasn't a way to stay in touch with everybody that you may have met. Facebook has also been used as a promotional site I know many people who have some business that have been using Facebook to promote their businesses. Twitter is used for various reasons such as business, media, and developers. Businesses use twitter to share information about their services, gather real-time market intelligence, and build relationships with customers, partners, and influencers. Teen are being slain by cyberbullies everyday. Not all social media is good for teens. Even no social media is better. Almost every teenager has a cellphone or some sort of device that lets them check their social media. Many websites like Facebook, Instagram, and snapchat are bad and can cause teenagers to do bad things to themselves or other people. Banning social media will make teens have better grades, be more safer, and have more self confidence with less depression.
John Paul Titlow discusses the possible positive effects of the increase in social media in one’s everyday life. In his essay, “#Me: Narcissism and the Scourge of the Selfie,” he explains that while social media platforms such as Instagram may seem to just encourage narcissism, in fact they may be helping to improve the self-image of it’s user. This is an effect from the increased exposure to less professionally constructed images compared to those we normally run into in popular media and advertising. From my own personal experience with social media I can agree with this claim. Users can comment on various videos and pictures uploaded by their peers. Users also have the option to like videos and pictures. Other people can see these interactions being done, which leads to other people seeing the pictures and videos. Many advertisements are also used on Facebook. Since Facebook receives a lot of traffic from people, videos that advertise products can be uploaded to Facebook, so they can get more attention. People are able to attach recent news articles onto their profile that can be shared with their friends and family members. However, using it as a tool for learning is a different story. By using it as a tool, it can push you off your course with classes. Social media is something that is not needed at school grounds. Schools should not require social media use in classes.

People use social media for networking, education, and entertainment. Some of today’s popular social media sites include Facebook, twitter, pinterest, instagram, vine, YouTube, and LinkedIn. Facebook is used as a basic social media site. People can share pictures, videos, and “status updates” to let people know how they are doing or exciting things going on in that person’s life. Twitter can is similar to Facebook, but updates are limited to one hundred – forty characters. YouTube is a site specifically made to share videos, which is its only function. Vine is used to share 6 second video clips, instagram is a picture sharing website, that just recently allowed sixteen second videos to be shared. LinkedIn is used for employers to find prospective employees and vice versa.
In the end, social media provide a way of keeping in relations with friends, also allow many companies to reach a large number of costumers and to be more productivity. At the same time, media are changing the ways in which we communicate and interact with others. Social media is a very interesting thing in our life. It was made for the free exchange of lots of information all around the world without boundaries but we have to know well how and why to use these media.
