I will begin my social media audit by first determining the most popular and most used social media sites on the Internet. According to www.ebizmba.com, the top 5 social networking websites are Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Myspace. (Ebiz-media, 2012) Having found this information I am confident I will be able to provide the most accurate information needed. I proceeded to do a Google search for Facebook, Twitter, LinedIn, Pinterest, and Myspace, and it took me less then 5 minutes to create an account for myself. I was then able to simply do a search for the Nike company within all social media sites and find the results instantly. There were some doubts about whether or not the twitter account was indeed ran by the Nike company, and not just a fake account made by somebody outside the organization. ... shoe that will be made as a special edition. They would not have to mass product the shoe and it would build hype. Another suggestion would be for Nike to use their endorsed athletes more to their advantage by linking their social media accounts to the Nike’s accounts. For example, Nike can have LeBron James tweet Nike once a month promoting the brand and increasing the brand awareness via more eventual twitter followers. Nike is paying these athletes hundreds of millions of dollars and if the athletes are not willing to do this then it can be a good future contract stipulation.

Nike’s goal is to remain unique and different from others in terms of the items offered on the market. Arguably, Nike belongs to a monopolistically competitive market as there only a few organizations with the ability to regulate the amount charged for their product which means they cannot make their prices high as this is likely to make customers move on to other available choices (Nike, Inc., 2012). However, Nike can find a balance between the prices to charge for their products and remaining competitive with other companies in the industry. Nike has formed a distinction between the appearance and performance of their footwear and that of their competitors. Although products are differentiated from other companies, they still influence each other because they are items of the same

In 1965 two men by the names of Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight started Blue Ribbon Sports, now known as Nike, the business almost instantly became a top competitor. In 2012 Nike was said to have a net worth of 67 billion dollars, and co-founder Phil Knight a net worth of 18.7 billion dollars. The amount of profit Nike has attained is eye- opening, which made individuals that much more infuriated when they discovered Nike was accused of having sweatshops internationally. The accusations began in 1991 when activist Jeff Ballinger published a report, documenting the harsh conditions workers were forced to work in. Acknowledging the fact that Nike’s business plan was more about making profit than treating employees with any dignity. Nike’s strategy seemed to be to enter into poor nations where individuals were desperate for work. In 1996 it has been ...

Nike will need to showcase our differentiating elements of the company as runners are very brand loyal customers. Even so, Nike has 60% of the market currently. You mentioned that you feel we can improve in this area, so this is what we’re going to do: massively increase innovation and development for our running shoes, and increase brand reputation. Nike has been a historic leader in running technologies. Recently we released the electronically tied running shoes, just like from the movie Back to the Future. We need to continue to push boundaries and see what new technologies can do to revolutionize the sport. The second focus for this market is to increase our presence in specialty running stores and in third party eCommerce sites. Making sure Nike is seen and heard by this market is going to increase our success with them. Dedicated runners were found to go to specialty running shops more often than making any purchases online. Nike needs to have a bigger presence where the customers actually
Nike Inc. was founded in 1962 by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight as a partnership under the name, Blue Ribbon Sports. Our modest goal then was to distribute low-cost, high-quality Japanese athletic shoes to American consumers in an attempt to break Germany's domination of the domestic industry. In 2000 Nike Inc. not only manufactured and distributed athletic shoes at every marketable price point to a global market, but over 40% of our sales came from athletic apparel, sports equipment, and subsidiary ventures. Nike maintains traditional and non-traditional distribution channels in more than 100 countries targeting its primary market regions: United States, Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Americas (not including the United States).

I will be using the Yale Five-Stage Development Model created by researchers at Yale University to evaluate the Nike campaign (Binder, 1971). Using this model I will be able to evaluate the five functional stages noted by the Yale researchers: identification, legitimacy, participation, penetration, and distribution. The first stage I will be using identification talking about Nike’s logo. Then, by viewing their impact on communities I will be able to analyze Nike’s second stage which is legitimacy. Third is the, participation stage I will identify how Nike as the recruitment and involvement of previously uncommitted people. In reviewing the case of New Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc. it is clear that there are a few major problems that the company is facing. First of all, New Balance falls behind its other major competitors, Nike, Adidas and Reebok, in the area of marketing. Unlike its competitors, New Balance does not undertake celebrity endorsements. This puts them at a disadvantage when it comes to brand building. This also causes the company to lose out somewhat on gaining awareness on a global scale as it lacks endorsements in major sporting events. Most global brand names generate strong brand recognition through celebrity endorsements in sporting events that would give them the needed momentum to carry their brand name further into the global market.
