Mortal Kombat, a one versus one American video game, developed by NetherRealm Studios as a whole seems to have much influence from the one versus one video game series Street Fighter made by Capcom, a Japanese video game developer. This influence is especially seen in the development of the characters of Mortal Kombat, The character Kitana (Figure 2) from Mortal Kombat displays much influence from Street Fighter’s Chun Li (Figure 1), from colors to a spin off of her clothing. Chun Li (Figure 1) has exaggerated proportions of her body that please the eye as well as Kitana (Figure 2).
Street Fighter’s popularity and success was great, and after releasing Street Fighter II ––where Chun Li (Figure 1) made her first appearance–– it was even greater. Mortal Kombat was not as popular as Street Fighter and their creation of the second Mortal Kombat with the addition of a playable female character Kitana (Figure 2), was greatly influenced by Chun Li (Figure 1). Kitana’s (Figure 2) creation with such influence from Chun Li (Figure 2) was probably to also bring the influence of a successful video game. By creating a similar character as Chun Li (Figure 1) it also gave interest to the Street Fighter fans. In adopting this influence, NetherRealm Studios accepted that the female addition to the fighting game was a smart idea and that the Asian fighting video games had became a success.
Chun Li (Figure 1) is a female character from the video game series Street Fighter depicted with a very young and pleasing appearence. Chun Li( Figure 1) was the first playable female character in the video game series of Street Fighter by Capcom; making her first appearence in Street Fighter II. Although this piece was created by Japanese artist...

...e the idea of something foreign about her is necessary. Kitana’s (Figure 2) clothing is noticeably influenced by Asian culture, but it also is not exactly like the Asian wardrobe to give it an even more foreign design. Clothing moderations based on the Chinese qipao and the fans give a foreign air to the piece because it is not commonly seen in the western hemisphere. Another reason why excoticism is at play is because Japanese fighting games where very popular when they first arrived at arcades, this allows an assumption that because Mortal Kombat looks similar to Street Fighter it may be as good as the game Street Fighter.

In one of the more commonly portrayed stereotypes in film, Asians are often portrayed as great martial artists. Martial arts seem to come less as a skill and more a natural ability to someone who is Asian. Somehow, it’s right in our blood. Actors who have contributed to t...
The Asian American history is the history of the ethnic and racial groups in the United States who are of Asian descent. Spickard (2007) shows that the "'Asian American' was an idea created in the 1960s to bring together the Chinese, Japanese, and Filipino Americans for a strategic and political purposes.
And after many researches, it been found that men are more addicted to video games, because most of games reflects their actions and behavior, and the type of games they play are usually contains violence and, action. And the male characters are always represented as a muscled and tough men. Unlike females they are less addicted to video games, because when they found most of games contains violence, and their naturality is usually calm and soft, they stayed away, so they turned to adventure, and puzzle games. But what made arguments is the representation of females, they were often shown as a sex object, and that because game designers tend to please male players, more than females because their percentage is higher. Games industries are willing to change the representation of each character from different gender in next the generation of games. but will it be more successful than the way genders are being represented now
In this paper I will be sharing information I had gathered involving two students that were interviewed regarding education and their racial status of being an Asian-American. I will examine these subjects’ experiences as an Asian-American through the education they had experienced throughout their entire lives. I will also be relating and analyzing their experiences through the various concepts we had learned and discussed in class so far. Both of these individuals have experiences regarding their education that have similarities and differences.
In multiple instances throughout the film, female characters violate gender norms by acting as both warriors and leaders because they are adapting typically masculine traits. In the film, women are the majority of the labor force in Iron Town. Men are merely there to do the labor that needs the most physical power. “Americans oversimplify Japanese women as demure, submissive, and oppressed” (Kyu Hyun, 2002, 38). This quote shows that the stereotype of women in Japanese culture was just like the western perspective where they were below men.
The pain and the suffering, the oppression, and the exclusion all describe the history of Asia America. When they arrived to the United States, they become labeled as Asians. These Asians come from Japan, China, Korea, Laos, Thailand, and many other diverse countries in the Eastern hemisphere. These people wanted to escape from their impoverished lives as the West continued to infiltrate their motherland. They saw America as the promise land filled with opportunity to succeed in life. Yet due to the discrimination placed from society and continual unfair treatment by the government, the history of Asian American was being defined and written every day they were in America, waiting to be deported because of the complexion of their skin. Striving everyday to conform and mix with society, the Asian American faced constant rejection and exclusion from the American way of life, defining the history of Asian America.
People form East Asian immigrate to the Unite States, which is an ethnic cultural crucible, that only is a small ethnic group. However, they have been considered to be different from other minority ethnic groups because of their high school achievement. According to Huang, Asians get higher score than whites get at schools, especially in mathematics, science and other technical areas(cited from Pang, Han,& Pang,2011; Peng& Wright,1994). As immigrants, Asian American are not only adjusting themselves to acculturation, but also bringing and keeping their own culture, habits, behaviors, and belief system. The questions are: Are there any relations between culture and achievement in Asian American family education? How does their culture influence
Video games have both a positive and negative impact on youth attitudes, behaviours and perceptions, as with other forms of media, and thus, it is important to understand the complications that arise alongside the growing numbers of youth playing video-games. According to Cambridge Dictionary, gender-discrimination is defined as the unequal treatment of a particular sex in contrast to the opposing sex which is based on gender-differences, predominantly, a situation where a female is discriminated by a male. In relevance to video-games, female characters are excessively under-represented and in majority, take only passive roles in relation to men. In a research experiment conducted in September, 2000, the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC’S) verdict concluded that there were more gender-neutral or unidentified gender variations, such as animals, or aliens, ...
The man who has my admiration and utmost respect is Bruce Lee. In the short 32 years of his life, Bruce Lee, created a legacy that is still prevalent today. He is thought by many as the “Greatest Martial Artist of the 20th Century”. His philosophies and insightful teachings have influenced many people, including myself. His perseverance and determination are beyond that of modern-day people and those are to qualities that deserve my admiration.
...n, regardless of gender. For the entirety of the game, players will find their courage within Lara rather than watching and admiring her triumphs from the sidelines. The interaction between heroine and gamer revolutionizes the standard at which video game heroes and heroines must live up to. Rather than an image of sophistication that ordinary people may have difficulty reaching, Lara’s newfound vulnerability humanizes her struggles into a culturally accessible archetype.
I was the oldest of two boys which means I didn’t have a big brother to call on if I got into trouble with other guys in the neighborhood that were bigger, but my brother had me and the guys he wanted me to whip in most cases had bigger brother’s. Which most of the times were already looking for me because of what he had said I would do to them for picking on my little brother? Now that I think about it not wanting to be considered a coward I guess I fought subconsciously knowing it was better to lose a little fight then to start a war I knew we could not win. I came for a single parent home and felt certain things mom didn’t need to know or I would be grounded from the few places that I was allowed to go. My mom move us to Orange Mound when I was fifteen years old , so it may have been a little different if we would have lived there from the beginning, because we would have been a part of the neighborhood and would have had close friends there, instead of being the new kids on the block. So therefore I always wished I was build like Mr. Universe and knew judo or karate. I would often day dream about being able to win against all odds because I was able to master the superior form of the martial arts. And I would sometime wonder where this style of fighting originate and why, maybe it was for the same reason that I had. With that being said, still today bigger and stronger people are taking advantage of smaller and weaker ones. It may be safe to say that more women are learning self defense techniques more than ever before. And knowing these skills can be an equalizer as seen in the Bruce Lee and David Carradine, (who just reason departed this life); movies’ which helped turn the martial arts into a trend during the 197...
There is “comics which do portray strong, interesting heroines” yet they “…still pander to young male readers”(Lanvin). Women are still being illustrated in over sexualized outfits to appease the male audience. Female writers have began to change this and are catering specifically to the female audience. There has been evidence that “…female fans are becoming more visible and vocal”(Lavin). As more women began to show interest in comic books, “…it is hoped that the negative portrayal of women in comic books will diminish”(Lavin). Comic books need to revisualizes the female character and start to accurately portray the modern female rather then illustrate a over sexualized female of men’s fantasies. Students, boys and girl, read comic books furthermore authors should write comics that can relate to both genders(Kan). This will not only increase overall sales but it will also promote gender
How are people in your culture viewed or treated when they have a mental illness?
Moreover, there is not only physical crime, but also instances like whitewashing of Asian characters in Hollywood movies, turning the culture into a costume, or the pressure to assimilate ‘American’ names dissolves the Asian American narrative even more. Therefore, Asian Americans find themselves with “no foundation in politics, no cultural icon, no place in American history,” to the degree that “there is a sudden painful epiphany that we never belonged in the first place” (Yi, 2016). When an Asian immigrant comes to the U.S., they realize they must give up their culture and identity in order to acclimate, and there is meager advocacy for that custom to change. To be unaware of the historical and modern dilemmas of Asian Americans dismisses
The demand for strong female characters in action films grew to a new high when Angelina Jolie starred in ‘Tomb Raider’ in 2001 and then in the sequel, ‘Tomb Raider II: The Cradle of Life’ in 2003 as Lara Croft. Her strong female character was not only masculine, but was also portrayed as a sex object. Most often, strong women in these types of films tend to fight without even gaining a mark. At the end of each fight, her hair and makeup would always be perfect. The female characters in these action films, whether their role was as the lead character or a supporting character, had similar aspects.... ...
