How are people in your culture viewed or treated when they have a mental illness?
Anxiety and depression are just one of many different mental illnesses. This type of illness is not typically discussed among the Korean culture and is often frowned upon. In fact, only 12% of Asian Americans will tell a friend or family member, because having a mental illness brings along feelings of denial and shame. Most individuals do not seek help of a professional until after they are no longer able to hide their symptoms and by the time they do get treatment, their symptoms are worse and the chance of recovery slowly diminishes.
