Introduction
This guide contains information about using your artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) and about caring for yourself while you have one. Your health care provider may give you additional information. Call your health care provider if you have any problems or questions.
What is an AUS?
An AUS is a device that helps you control your urine. It is made up of three parts:
A pump.
A balloon.
A fluid-filled cuff.
The pump is the part of the AUS that is on your scrotum (if you are a man) or outside of your vagina (if you are a woman). It controls the other parts of your AUS. The balloon and the pump are inside your body. The balloon is in your abdomen, and the cuff is wrapped around the tube that drains urine from your bladder (urethra).
In 1932 DeBakey invented the roller pump for the heart and lungs machine. The device is rhythmically powered by a flexible tube which is an important part of the lung-heart machine applied in the heart surgery. It has the ability to replicate the rhythm of human’s heart. As a result , it is named peristaltic pump.[1]
5), many hospitals in conjunction with the Joint Commission's 2012 National Patient Safety Goals has been rallying for hospitals to use evidenced-based practices (EBP) to the prevention of CAUTIs because evidence is growing showing that many are avoidable. Such practices such as utilizing a nurse-driven protocol to assess and evaluate the appropriateness and use of urethral catheter to determine how long a patient should have an indwelling catheter and when to discontinue it. Several factors have been identified that pose as risk factors to CAUTI which include but not limited to drainage bag not being below the level of the bladder, healthcare personnel not practicing standard precautions and utilizing aseptic techniques during insertion of catheters, unsterile equipment, and unnecessary placement of urinary

2013). Inappropriate use of urinary catheter in patients as stated by the CDC includes patients with incontinence, obtaining urine for culture, or other diagnostic tests when the patient can voluntarily void, and prolonged use after surgery without proper indications. Strategies used focused on initiating restrictions on catheter placement. Development of protocols that restrict catheter placement can serve as a constant reminder for providers about the correct use of catheters and provide alternatives to indwelling catheter use (Meddings et al. 2013). Alternatives to indwelling catheter includes condom catheter, or intermittent straight catheterization. One of the protocols used in this study are urinary retention protocols. This protocol integrates the use of a portable bladder ultrasound to verify urinary retention prior to catheterization. In addition, it recommends using intermittent catheterization to solve temporary issues rather than using indwelling catheters. Indwelling catheters are usually in for a longer period. As a result of that, patients are more at risk of developing infections. Use of portable bladder ultrasound will help to prevent unnecessary use of indwelling catheters; therefore, preventing
You can reduce the risk of UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) and possibly prevent them, by changing
The urinary system has many different organs in order for it to work as a whole. Each organ does different functions. The urinary system consists of the two kidneys, the two ureters, the bladder, the two sphincter muscles, the nerves in the bladder, and the urethra. After your body takes what it needs from the food you eat waste products are then left behind in the blood. The urinary system works with the lungs, skin, and intestines to keep the chemicals and water in your body balanced. The urinary system removes urea from your body. Urea is made when the foods you eat that are high in protein are broken down in the body. Urea is then carried into the bloodstream to the kidneys by the renal arteries.
Furthermore, the circulating person should have kept the bowl liner inside the theatre until the operation’s completed, and the final count was undertaken and everything that was accounted for at the beginning of the case were out. The local trust policy (c) (2012) states that at no time should laundry, orange-bagged clinical waste, and non- clinical waste containers including suction liners leave the theatre. In line with the infection control standard precautions, the fluid that was taken in the sluice should have been sucked via suction tubing to the suction liner. The NICE (2012) guideline states that health- care-associated infections are caused by wide range of microorganisms. These are often carried by the patients themselves, and have taken advantage of a route into the body provided by an invasive device or procedure.

One important body system is the circulatory system. The systems job is to pump blood to all parts of the body. The blood circulates inside of many tubes and blood vessels which are found in your body. Blood vessels carry the blood to all parts of the body. Oxygen goes into the blood every time we take a breath. Carbon dioxide is a kind of gas. The blood carries carbon dioxide from the cells to the lungs. When a person breathes out, the body is getting rid of carbon dioxide. Your circulatory system works twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. It even works when you are sleeping. The circulatory system delivers food, fluids and chemicals to cells throughout your body. It helps to clear your body of waste and carries cells that fight diseases. If your circulatory system would stop working, your cells would starve. Sometimes a doctor would give a patient a vaccine directly into the circulatory system so the medicine should travel to the parts of the body that need it. The circulatory system is made up of three main parts: the heart, the blood vessels, and the blood. The two main kinds of blood vessels are arteries and veins. There are also smaller vessels called capillaries. Arteries and veins are connected by capillaries. A heart of a human is a muscle. The heart has a left side and right side. On the right side, blood enters the heart from the body and then goes from the right side of the heart and to the lungs. In the lungs, it picks up oxygen and returns to the left side of the heart. The oxygen and the blood are then pumped to the body. The heart contains valves. The valves function is to keep the blood flowing in one direction. Each side of the heart is divided into two parts. The upper chamber is called an...
There are few telltale signs of what Shelly Gregory copes with on a daily basis. On closer observation, one may notice the odd way she holds the right side of her abdomen when she walks or the way she tilts her body to the side when she sits on a chair for too long.
You should keep up your hygiene to prevent UTIs. Following urinating or a bowel movement, wipe front to back. It helps avoid bacteria in your anal region from entering the urethra and the vagina. Don’t attempt to reach from behind as bacteria from the anus may be transferred to your hand and the tissue. Do not...
Piscine Patel peephole is his small existence on the lifeboat, while he is going through his ordeal fending for his life the world around him is still going on without him, the world is not stopping for his problems. When Pi says "how can I not dwell on this brief, cramped view I have of things," I believe he is saying that even though his situation, or "peephole" is small to the world(in the grand scheme of things), he can't help but focus on it because it consumes his whole life at that point in time. Corresponding to my peephole Pi fending for survival is similar in the that I am fending for my heart. Even though I have this problem that is big to me the world around me keeps moving forward, no matter how far I feel I am being pulled back,

The human male reproductive system organs are located outside of the body around the pelvic region of a male (wikipedia, 2010). The testes produce sperm that would fertilize the female’s egg. Males have several secondary genitalia’s the penis, sperm ducts, epididymis, vas deferens and the urethra. The urethra is used for two purposes to urine and to ejaculate semen. Males also have accessory glands such as the prostate gland, seminal vesicles, and bulbourethral glands. The prostate gland contributes fluid for ejaculation. Prostate fluids helps to nourish the sperm (Web Md, 2009). The seminal vesicle makes up most of the volume of a man's ejaculatory fluid and provide the sperm with nutrients that give the sperm energy(Web Md, 2009). Bulbourethral glands produce a clear, slippery fluid that empties directly into the urethra. This fluid serves to lubricate the urethra ...
