Art has always been used to portray a message, American art is no different. Throughout the years American art has been created for many different reasons, including parody and satire. One such example is the painting The Surrender by Joseph Griffith. Although it contains jumbled imagery and may convey a mixed message, The Surrender's main message is that American culture is idolized by the youth of today and that American as a whole is waging war on cultures and religions it doesn’t understand.
This time was filled with a great amount of fear as well as optimism. However, like Friedrich Nietzsche would agree, the West has lost its passion. People became increasingly focused on starting a democracy that they lost their love of their passions. Artists, like Mary Cassatt, Childe Hassam, and Theodore Robinson, were the impressionists of the 11th century in America ("American Art: History of Fine Arts in America" 4). These artists were consumed with their art and other artists’ art, in addition to the overall cultural growth in the nation. As the age of art was flourishing in the States, leisure activities often included going to the theatre and opera. Moreover, familial relationships began to lose importance as more and more people had hired help to assist with the raising of children as well as sending children off the boarding school. These Westerners let other people raise their children so that they could have more time for work and the few leisure and artful activities they enjoyed. As seen in the beginning of the United States, it is clear to see how the present state of American follows Nietzsche’s theory of Western oppression of
For the United States the Twenties was a time to flourish and enjoy the common wealth, but unlike everything else, architecture was in a creative slump. many artists were having difficulty in depicting a "style" for the new era. Many new technological advances were occuring through the steel industry and the discovery of glass. The architects of this period wanted to incorporate those advances in their designs, thus bringing forth an experimental period. With architects from different backgrounds and cultures working to produce a masterpiece the International Style was created.
By the late '80s the European movement was long established and was in full force. The second generation Europeans were forging friendships with their American idols. The Europeans thirsted to paint in the birthplace of the art. The Americans hosted "Pilgrimages to Mecca". Many European writers bomb New York so effectively, that people believe they are from New York. Many New York writers also went to Europe. Some European were so willing to cater to American writers that they would provide airfare, and paint. The bragging rights for painting with an American were priceless. For some Americans going to hit trains in Italy or Germany has become just like a trip form Brooklyn to the Bronx.

After the 1940 surrender of Paris, which many Americans viewed as the fall of culture due to Paris’ status as the international mecca for the arts, it was evident that the world required a new and superior cultural hub. Throughout the 1940s American artists, with the influence of European Modern and Surrealist painters, were able to elevate New York City to the center of the art world by implementing a “new, strong, and original” artistic style that simultaneously fought fascist ideology: Abstract Expressionism (Guilbault 65). After the war, galleries throughout Europe exhibited American Abstract art, Rothko’s in particular, to prove that American art, once thought tasteless, possessed artistic depth and merit (“Mark Rothko”). Therefore, Abstract Expression had a major role in making New York City the worldwide cultural metropolis that it is today. In terms of shifts in worldview, Abstract Expressionism placed a great importance on intense emotion and spirituality in a society where religiousness was, and continues to be, replaced by other, often self-centered or materialistic, pursuits. The movement allowed and encouraged the public to explore their darkest fears and woes, which, in the wake of the Second World War and, later on, during the Cold War was likely therapeutic. Above all else, it made society recognize that art should no longer be viewed with suspicion; instead, it should be accepted as an integral element of culture
Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale is a common good man who is looked after by all. He is described as inspirational and a man of good faith. He's the last person to be deemed a sinner. Despite his reputation as a minister, Dimmesdale is secretly tormented by the shame and guilt of the affair with Hester. Instead of confessing and acknowledging that Pearl is his daughter, he chooses to stay quiet and let Hester get harassed by the people in Puritan society.
Modern art serves to immerse us more thoroughly in a scene by touching on more than just our sight. Artists such as Grosz, and Duchamp try to get us to feel instead of just see. It seems that this concept has come about largely as a way to regain identity after shedding the concepts of the Enlightenment. “Philosophers, writers, and artists expressed disillusionment with the rational-humanist tradition of the Enlightenment. They no longer shared the Enlightenment's confidence in either reason's capabilities or human goodness...” (Perry, pg. 457) It is interesting to follow art through history and see how the general mood of society changed with various aspects of history, and how events have a strong connection to the art of the corresponding time.
...s such at flowers and plants. This form was mainly embraced during its decline as a movement as it became so popular that it was being watered down and lost its ingenuity and integrity as an art form. this was helped by the first world war as the war required an influx of new technology to fight with. things were further stimulated by the returned growth of the economy which meant that people had more money to spend thus were able to purchase better quality and luxury products. art deco began after as the period of glamour and extravagance which saw the creation and usage of new materials such as metals chrome and platinum, and the increase usage of vibrant paters such as stripes and zigzags used of furniture pieces both movements have greatly influenced their later years even after the second world war up to the 1960s which saw art deco revived for a short while.
Art has gone through many significant developments throughout history. The most important turning point was the renaissance. Art took a huge turn before the 1500’s and even after. The Renaissance has assisted the world of art in breaking away from a classic structure and shaping it to what it is day. Prior to this cultural rebirth, artworks were mostly not made to scale. Paintings were unrealistic and disproportionate. Religious figures seemed to be the focus of many works. The Renaissance changed the old social context of art by introducing humanism, new themes and techniques.
In the early 20th century several movements occurred in America and Europe, therefore it was an era that characterized by the imperialism industrialization which polarized the nation into two categories of high and the low class. During the 19th century, a great number of revolutionary changes altered forever the face of art and those that produced it. Compared to earlier artistic periods, the art produced in the 19th century was a mixture of restlessness, obsession with progress and novelty, and a ceaseless questioning, testing and challenging of all authority. Old certainties about art gave way to new ones and all traditional values, systems and institutions were subjected to relentless critical analysis. At the same time, discovery and invention proceeded at an astonishing rate and made the once-impossible both possible and actual. But most importantly, old ideas rapidly became obsolete which created an entirely new artistic world highlighted by such extraordinary talents as Vincent Van Gogh, Eugene Delacroix, Paul Gauguin, Paul Cezanne, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Claude Monet. American painting and sculpture came around the age of 19th century. Art originated in Paris and other different European cities. However, it became more popular in United States around 19th century.

Naturally, what makes certain activities wrong, and often criminal, is determined by the harm that is done to the victim, for the similar reason that any act of violence or coercion against another person is wrong. A fundamental rule about interacting with other people is reciprocation and respect. Since none of us has a privileged position, no one is entitled to infringe on the other against the other's will. That being said, rape is an even larger issue due to the fact that some people think they’re entitled to things based on their perceived position of power. Rape is about harming the interests of the victim, or survivor, in the name of the perpetrators need for displaying dominance and power.
