In class we had a powerful speaker, Ari Schonbrun from Cantor Fitzgerald that came to speak to us about his life-changing experience on September 11, 2001. After the discussion I began to process the advice, and after contemplation I realized that I was being reminded of the legacy I want to leave and the story I want to be written about my life. For example, he asked a question “Does anyone have a dream?” YOu would like with what’s going on in the world, people would hope that somehow they can make a difference. So I responded “I want to be one of the most powerful people that made a tremendous impact in the world.” I wouldn’t know what to call myself because I don’t just want to be label under one category, I want to utilize my skills, passion
and my voice to make a major difference. This help me to realize the reason I chose business. I want to give a helping hand to others by starting my own non-profit organization, be an investor, and be a voice for this generation. I just refuse to be just another name, wherever I go I want to leave and impact. How can one make an impact in a global scale if they haven’t done anything locally. I am tired of waiting for another “Martin Luther King” to make a difference, I know I have what it takes and I am going to be a voice and share my dream. If I am going to do so, I need to be surrounded by passionate people. This discussion made me feel empowered and gear back my focus on why I am here.
As Chris McCandless once said, “I now walk into the wild,” a phrase that not only represents a future with unknown mysteries, but a phrase that finishes the puzzle of his and Martin Luther King, Jr’s life. When looking at a historical or inspirational person, you may notice they operated outside the usual bounds of society to achieve a particular purpose. Such is the case for McCandless and King. Although Chris McCandless and Martin Luther King, Jr both shared a fatal death, these men had many similarities and differences between how they reached success, encountered obstacles, and left an impact towards people's lives. Generally speaking, success isn’t just about what you accomplish in life, it’s how you accomplished it and the impact you leave behind.
In 1893, Simon Pokagon spoke at the Chicago World’s Columbian Exposition. He was a prominent tribal leader who was known for this speech. So much so, it was printed and turned into an informative pamphlet. The speech encompassed American history and it’s push Westward, detailing the destruction of the Native lands and culture forever. He begins by telling the crowd about how he cannot celebrate with them in this great big new city, because it reminds him of all that was lost. Pokagon states, “where stands this “Queen City of the West” once stood the red man’s wigwams;” (Page 32). A bold statement follows about how nature was plentiful, until pale face came with their
The Supreme Court has the highest authority in this country and throughout its existence the diversity of people in it had been lacking. On May 29, 2009 a new Supreme Court Justice was nominated, she was the first Latina to be appointed to this position and eventually was confirmed by the senate. Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination speech was a moment that brought joy to many Latinos who often did not feel represented in higher positions of authority in this country. She was the first to break the norm for this and in the speech she delivered to the country via new stations she was able to present to the country what qualified her as a Supreme Court Justice. Former President Barack Obama presented Sotomayor as a person
“Domestic tranquility”, and “All men created equal”, words used in the preamble to the Constitution of the United States of America, irony at its finest in the period known as the Civil War. One month into the Civil War a black man, Alfred M. Green, gave a speech in Philadelphia to a Union audience about just that. In the oration he urged the African American people, who at this time were not eligible to enlist in the Union army, to fight for domestic harmony and equality. In doing so, Green uses figurative language and strong diction to help garner an emotional appeal, as well as establish a tone of empowerment.
If demonstrating my leadership qualities continues more people will be culturally aware of what they are possible of accomplishing. I look at myself as halfway there in my giving back to others. It will be a long road, but with persistence and determination I feel that I can and will do it. The novel The Pact has given me an extra push seeing that there are some people who feel the same about society and their well-being.
Alexander Stephens was the vice president of the Confederate states of America during the civil war (1861-1865) and he is the one who gave the famous speech known as “the Cornerstone Speech” where he stated openly the ideas on which the new government was founded: the supremacy of whites over blacks. Stephens played an important role in drafting the new constitution and he had the opportunity to present the new form of government in the speech that took place in Savannah on March 21, 1861.
For Phil Davidson to have a better chance of winning when he next runs for Star County Public Office, he must improve his public speaking abilities. Some improvements he should make include implementing clear preview and transition statements, providing more organization, and adjusting his delivery style. A few recommendations on how Phil should go about improving his speech giving skills include practicing frequently before giving his speech, allowing others to look over his speech, and writing clear previews as well as transitions and using either note cards or highlighting to remember them.
...lings that overcame me: it was the first time I felt as though I was important, the first time I felt as though I was a scholar, and most importantly, the first time I felt as though I belonged. I want to be an active voice on campus and in the classrooms; I want to be a role model to the diverse student body; I want to branch out with the opportunity given by GS; and most of all, I want to grow into the leader I dream to become.
I have always been passionate about kids and family’s that live in poverty and who are desperate for food and water. So, I knew when I heard Ryan Stevenson speaking of an organization called World Vision, that this would be a great speech for this assignment. Ryan Stevenson is a singer and artist who was speaking as well as preforming at the Newsboys concert, at the Brookings Swiftel Center.
Selma director, Ava DuVernay did a great job filming and creating the characters that played a big part in this story. Marching alongside King was Andrew Young who was portrayed by Andre Holland.
I graduated with a class of ninny-nine kids and now I have a Math lecture with four-hundred kids. This class didn’t only help me with my leadership skills but it helped me learn and really help my final transition of being apart of such a huge community. Learning how to become a better leader helped me become a better person in general. It can be as small as giving someone a complement on a good deed they did or something as big as changing a person’s life around for the better. Knowing that the way you use certain nouns can really have an impact on people. Something you don’t think twice about can have an effect on someone for
This really stuck with me because I sometimes get frustrated easily which is not a good thing. Like Randy said, everyone has a good side, we only have to be patient enough with them to see it. Brick walls really are there to be broken down and I feel like the only brick wall that can stop me is myself because I know that if I put my heart to anything, I can get it done. I think the fact that Randy one of the reasons randy became a professor is to help people achieve the childhood dreams. I think it is very important to help people in this world because when you help people, they will remember you forever and you would have made a positive impact on their lives. Even though I do some charity work at my, this speech has inspired me to even do more to help other people. Even though I don’t plan on being a professor or being in academia, I plan to help make people’s lives better if I don’t help them achieve their childhood
What do you think of when you hear the word personality? Have you ever taken a personality test? What did you think of it, was it accurate? This experiment was to test the accuracy of personality tests. Personality is found in the part of the brain called the prefrontal cortex, what is personality and why do people enjoy taking personality test, history and explanation of the Myers-Briggs inventory.
There were many instances in my life that have shaped my values, intellect, and academic or career goals. I was raised by my parents to become a hard worker, independent, and caring young adult. I was taught how to be all these qualities by a combination of experiencing and witnessing them first hand.
Throughout life, one develops their own characteristics that make them who they will be for the rest of their lives. In that interesting life, however, there must be important moments that highlight your personality, and overall make you the crowing person you are today. Whether that moment be life-searingly painful to remember, there are others that are so memorable because they were a time of great jubilation. These are the ones that we usually choose to make our lives encircle. Personally, there are many events that lead me up to becoming the honors student, actor, and “ladies-man” that I am today. When I attended KEY Camp at Casper College the summer of my fifth grade, it taught me three important lessons, which were the power of friendship, intelligence, and confidence.
