Animal Cruelty

In recent discussions of food practices, a controversial topic that is being argued is whether or not consuming animals as a source of food is morally correct. We seem to pass up the fact that that burger from McDonald’s and those chicken nuggets from Wendy’s came from a living and breathing animal, just as we are. As a society we never think about the animals lives that are being taken away. In order for us humans to consume the meat from these animals, they must be slaughtered first. In most cases, animals are kept in awful living conditions and treated unethically. The animals are hung, boiled alive, and in some brutal cases, beaten to death. The reason behind this is because the industry never tells you what goes on behind the scenes. For example, in the video Meet your Meat they show the many ways animals are killed and “the truth behind humanity’s cruelest invention—the factory farm”. According to PETA animals have horrible living conditions being crammed into small cages and even fed antibiotics to make them grow faster. These animals will never see the light of day or even their family members. This all falls into the category of livestock production and how it has a bigger impact on the planet then we know. Many people today, are ignorant to the process of where their food actually comes from. They do not think about what they are consuming, and how it once was a living creature, just as they are. Meat production not only causes pollution but also wastes energy and causes harm to the environment. Pollution can be spread by groundwater and viruses’ contaminant the air. This shows that our culture can be narcissistic, only caring about themselves and not on the affects on the environment or
