Why Marijuana Should be legal “Now everybody gather round and listen if you would, when I tell you every person needs a way of feeling good, every kitty needs a ball of string and every dog a stick, but all you need is a bag of weed to really get a kick!” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpS4ebEtLUE the link does not provide information, just a catchy song about weed. Many would argue that Marijuana is a drug, not only a drug but a gateway drug, simply because the human race can never be satisfied with just one bite. But here’s another thing that’s more serious than drugs, Anorexia, Depression, Anxiety, and Cancer, all these things are illnesses that not only bite, but eat away and destroy the person we once were, many people focus so much …show more content…
Medications cannot stimulate cells in your brain called opioids that are specifically used to tell your stomach when you’re hungry and when you are full and give your satisfaction in tasting the flavor of your food and craving more to repeat the process of eating. Simple pills or liquid medications cannot send messages to your brain to send out opioids into your system to tell your stomach it needs to be fed and have some food in your system for your body to receive and run on energy. One thing that is scientifically proven is that a side effect of marijuana is increase in appetite, so for those who do not extract enough opioids into their system or simply cannot produce enough are in luck, medical marijuana does not send messages to your brain but it does have its natural side effect to basically do the job for you. Not only can marijuana increase your appetite, but it can also drive up the neurotransmitter system to allow the body pleasure of eating and create a satisfaction that will need to be encountered again, thus leading to a craving for food later on in the day, creating a healthy eating schedule. This does not only help patients with anorexia but also those who suffer from depression, depression can affect your eating and sleeping habits, the most common problem is insomnia. People
Marijuana is a drug that is harmful to a person¡¯s health. It has been found to have adverse impacts on one¡¯s mental processes such as memory, attention, judgement, and problem- solving (Butcher, Mineka, Hooley, 2004, p.415). Also, marijuana can interfere with a person¡¯s ability to think rationally and logically. Thus, the lapse in judgement caused by the drug use can lead to risky sexual behaviours and this may result in increasing sexually transmitted disease such as AIDS. Moreover, the long-term use of marijuana may cause chronic breathing problems and cancer ...
In both these cases, medical cannabis can help reduce opioid cravings. The CBD in medical cannabis interacts with the brain’s serotonin system, which plays a role in addiction. CBD can thus reduce the risk of opioid dependence and overdose, as well as diminish withdrawal
George went from marijuana to cocaine, in this case it does a great job of portraying that marijuana can be a gateway drug. According to the NIDA “Early exposure to cannabinoids in adolescent rodents decreases the reactivity of brain dopamine reward centers later in adulthood”, it also goes on explaining how these findings helped explain the growth in vulnerability for addiction to other substances of misuse. (Schmader, 2017). In class, we have discussed addicts
Marijuana has been proven to increase appetite which results in a weight gain for the person. For an AIDS patient, gaining weight not losing it is a main focus. In 1992, the FDA approved a pill form of THC called Marinol for AIDS patients who suffer from wasting. In a study of 139 people with AIDS, half of the people were given the Marinol and half were given a placebo. The Marinol significally improved the appetite in AIDS patients(Cowley and Hager 22). Gaining weight and keeping it on for AIDS patients is key in extending their lives. M...
Throughout history people have used marijuana for its dried leaves, flowers, stems, and seeds to relieve pain, stress, and other medical issues from one’s life. Within the recent years it has become one of the most debated issues in the United States. In the 1930s, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Narcotics (now the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs) claimed that marijuana was a “gateway” drug and was a powerful, addicting substance. During the sixties marijuana became a symbol for rebellion against authority so it became very popular by college students and “hippies”. So in 1982, Drug Enforcement Administration increased pressure on drug farms and houses which decreased the use of marijuana. In the past twenty years marijuana has become a
According to Dale H. Gieringer in his book Medical Marijuana Handbook he states, Marijuana is proven to be effective as an anti-nauseant and an appetite stimulant for people going through chemotherapy and as an analgesic for patients suffering from chronic pain (Gieringer, p. 39).
The legalization of marijuana has been a highly debated topic for many of years. Since the first president to the most recent, our nation’s leaders have consumed the plant known as weed. With such influential figures openly using this drug why is it so frowned upon? Marijuana is considered a gateway drug, a menace to society, and mentally harmful to its consumers. For some people weed brings a sense of anxiety, dizziness, or unsettling feeling.
People should stop arguing about the use of marijuana and how marijuana is bad, because people only like to research the cons instead of including the pros. Despite the fact that people believe everything they hear, they should look up more and try to see how good marijuana can be for them. Marijuana is good for their health, and it has helped to cure people who are very ill. Marijuana is less harmful than tobacco or alcohol, there has been studies proven that people have died over drinking other than by smoking marijuana. Marijuana will be able to have less people prosecuted for the possession of carrying it around, which will help people not get arrested for a small amount of marijuana.
Cypress Hill is known for being hip-hop’s first Latino group, but more notably for their endorsement of marijuana. The group showed support for the legalization of marijuana, however their slow instrumental rolling beats paved the way for a stoned funk that became influential in 90’s hip-hop (Google.com, 2014). Their song, “Hits from the bong,” describes the process of taking a hit of marijuana from a bong. The opening chorus lyrics: “…Pick it, pack it/ fire it up come along/ and take a hit from the bong/ put the blunt down just for a second/ don’t get me wrong it’s not a new method/ Inhale, exhale…” (Cypress Hill, 1993, track10), describes to listeners a step-by-step instruction on how to take hit of marijuana from a bong. One may assume that
The decriminalization of marijuana has been an intense debate since the end of the prohibition era. Although congress has their reasons for not legalizing marijuana, they are most likely clinging to their personal beliefs and failing to face the facts when it comes to this hot issue. Marijuana should be legalized because the cost of keeping marijuana illegal is expensive, prohibiting the use of it does not help the problem of over usage, and people deserve the freedom to use marijuana.
There has always been controversy about marijuana and the affects it has on health and the issue of legalization. Some people believe it is very destructive to one’s health, and yet others feel the complete opposite about it. Is Marijuana truly harmful to one’s health? “Marijuana, the Deceptive Drug”, written by George Bierson, was published in the Massachusetts News. In this article, Bierson determines that marijuana is harmful in many ways. He seems to think that it damages the brain, the reproductive system, and also contributes to the halt of production in the immune system. Bierson also tries to persuade the reader that marijuana is a “gateway drug” that leads to larger drugs in the future. However, by conducting research of my own, I have come to the conclusion that Bierson’s article simply lacks truth.
As we go to the nineteenth century of the United States, Marijuana soaked in alcohol was used to improve appetite, mental disorders, and sexual interest. The British would actually use Cannabis oil to treat facial tics and rabies. In the 70s this experimental drug was used around the globe to treat glaucoma but it was only for a couple of hours before eye pressure increased due to glaucoma, it was a temporary reliever. Many other medical and therapeutically uses of marijuana now include adrenal and airway diseases, adult attention deficit disorder, nausea associated with AIDS, anorexia, anxiety, arthritis, bulimia, and cancer. Those are just a sample of the many medical uses of marijuana and the treatment of patients. People with AIDS or cancer often lose a lot of weight through a process called wasting. This is where marijuana comes into play because it is used as a stimulant for appetite and will be prescribed by doctors in order for that person to gain weight. The only issue with this is that the THC in marijuana may stimulate appetite but it is not lean tissue fat that is gained it is fat that is increased which may lead to an unhealthy lifestyle later in after a month’s worth of use.” (Medical marijuana, Salem Press Encyclopedia of
I believe that marijuana should be legalized. Currently marijuana is legal, for both medicinal and recreational use in 24 states and The District of Columbia; with that, I don’t see why it can’t be legalized in all 50. Marijuana has more than 50 different uses, the main one being for medicinal purposes. I weed were to become legal, it would clear out a lot of space in our prisons. Which would help us to rebuild our economy. Also, it would fuel economic growth by creating a new income for the United States. People argue that marijuana is a gateway drug, meaning that it leads users to stronger, more dangerous drugs, but studies prove that assertion to be false. In conclusion, I believe that best thing for America is to legalize marijuana.
Marijuana continues to be one of the most used illegal drugs in the United States. Marijuana has been used for many years and at one time was legal to consume. Throughout the years, marijuana has been used for treatment of different medical conditions and has been used recreationally by people of all ages. While the use of medicinal marijuana has proven to be effective in treating medically ill patients, society continues to question its recreational use and the long term effects it will have on its users. Some feel that legalizing marijuana will only open up avenues for the use of more potent drugs, causing an increase in criminal activity. However, a number of people question why it is considered illegal being it is a naturally growing
Imagine a doctor prescribing marijuana to a person with muscle spasms caused by multiple sclerosis, Nausea from cancer, poor appetite and weight loss caused by chronic illness, Seizure disorders, and crohn’s disease. When we think of marijuana we think of drugs but, these drugs can be of help to you if you have these illnesses. Obviously, I am for having marijuana but, to a certain extent. I believe that marijuana should only be legal if used for medical purposes. The rest of the time marijuana should be illegal.
