I believe that marijuana should be legalized. Currently marijuana is legal, for both medicinal and recreational use in 24 states and The District of Columbia; with that, I don’t see why it can’t be legalized in all 50. Marijuana has more than 50 different uses, the main one being for medicinal purposes. I weed were to become legal, it would clear out a lot of space in our prisons. Which would help us to rebuild our economy. Also, it would fuel economic growth by creating a new income for the United States. People argue that marijuana is a gateway drug, meaning that it leads users to stronger, more dangerous drugs, but studies prove that assertion to be false. In conclusion, I believe that best thing for America is to legalize marijuana.

It would give those who are in need of certain medications, but do not have the money or resources to get to them, an easier way of bettering themselves. If it was legal, then there would be steps toward stopping gang violence; and it would put a stop to minor possession charges. It would also start the necessary steps to stop the over fill of our prisons. Economic growth would be a defiant if marijuana were legalized. So much more money brought back in to help out our own communities. New schools, better housing or living conditions, and even improved roads are just a few more ideas of what good the extra money could be used for. In my opinion marijuana should be legalized, regulated and sold safely for those who are at least 18 years of age. There are many reasons why I feel this way. First off in the article “The Top Ten Reasons Marijuana Should Be Legal “ they state that there are millions of regular marijuana smokers in America and millions more infrequent smokers. The article also states that marijuana is clearly less harmful than legal drugs such as alcohol. This article also informs us that marijuana has positive attributes as both a medicine and a recreational drug without very many side effects. Marijuana or cannabis, according to the Federal Government is considered dangerous and addictive and is, therefore, placed on the controlled substance list as a schedule 1 drug, making its use and possession illegal, as well it is considered one of the worst drugs. Other more harmful drugs such as cocaine are considered schedule II drugs, so according to the U.S Government cocaine is considered less hazardous than marijuana. There have been many studies conducted by scientist proving the benefits of medical marijuana in relieving chronic pain, nausea and a full array of other ailments.
