People should stop arguing about the use of marijuana and how marijuana is bad, because people only like to research the cons instead of including the pros. Despite the fact that people believe everything they hear, they should look up more and try to see how good marijuana can be for them. Marijuana is good for their health, and it has helped to cure people who are very ill. Marijuana is less harmful than tobacco or alcohol, there has been studies proven that people have died over drinking other than by smoking marijuana. Marijuana will be able to have less people prosecuted for the possession of carrying it around, which will help people not get arrested for a small amount of marijuana. Marijuana relieves the pain, as it has been proven to also cure diseases. In the article, Three Puffs a Day Helped People With Nerve Pain, Study Finds, Kathleen Doheny says, “three puffs a day of cannabis, better known as marijuana, helps people with chronic …show more content…
nerve pain due to injury or surgery feel less pain and sleep better.” Here Kathleen Doheny is explaining that with only a few puffs of marijuana, you are less likely to feel pain and you will be able to rest more. A lot of people have complained about pain, but if they only take a hit they can get over the pain without having to take any medications that they cannot afford to buy. Also, in the article, Why I Changed My Mind On Weed, Dr. Sanjay Gupta says, “We have been ‘systematically misled’ on marijuana, it does not have a high potential for abuse, and there are very legitimate medical applications. In fact, sometimes marijuana is the only thing that works.” Dr. Sanjay Gupta, here, asserts that many are mistaken by believing that marijuana is a horrible drug, and in reality, using marijuana actually helps decrease the pain of many medical conditions. By using marijuana it can help people to not suffer and they won’t feel the need to always go to the doctor and take forever to be attended. Although, some people claim that using marijuana doesn’t relieve any pain and that it is too addicting. However, studies have shown that using marijuana actually helps reduce pain and people won’t be worried when they have to take their medication. Therefore, people should not deny the use of marijuana for medical treatment because thanks to the studies that have been made, marijuana is helpful for keeping the pain away. Marijuana is less harmful than alcohol or tobacco because people have died more for the use of alcohol or tobacco. In the article, New Study Finds Marijuana Safer Than Alcohol or Tobacco, Justine Alford shows, “Scientists have confirmed what earlier studies have indicated: alcohol is the deadliest, while marijuana is the least risky.” Alford argues that there have been studies that marijuana doesn’t have nicotine unlike tobacco, and people have more danger when they drink alcohol, than when they smoke marijuana. So many people try to blame others, saying that marijuana can kill you, when in reality, marijuana is the least likely drug to kill you unlike tobacco or alcohol. Furthermore, in the article,The 10 Reasons Cannabis Is Far Safer Than Alcohol, Marco Torres argues, “Alcohol use damages the brain. Cannabis use does not. Despite the myths we’ve heard throughout our lives about cannabis killing brain cells, it turns out that a growing number of studies seem to indicate that cannabis actually has neuroprotective properties.” Torres explains that we shouldn’t believe everything we hear from others because studies have shown that marijuana can actually help protect your brain unlike alcohol or tobacco. No one, therefore, should be told to not smoke because it is good for their brain to be protected. Unfortunately, smoking too much of marijuana can hurt you, but the fact that people drink is a higher chance for someone to die and even have people get aggressive towards others unlike marijuana. However, people who smoke marijuana shouldn’t be forced to stop smoking only because people say its bad. People should do more of a research instead of believing what they hear, as it is clear that it is actually a fairly safe drug when used responsibly. Less people will be prosecuted for the possession of marijuana, and not get arrested. In the article, FBI: 750,000 People Arrested for Simple Marijuana Possession And For What?, Marijuana Policy Project argues that “More than 750,000 people were arrested last year for simple possession! A remarkably small number of people who may have distributed marijuana were arrested last year, along with three quarters of a million simple users, in an effort to curb marijuana use nationwide.” Marijuana Policy Project shows that more people are prosecuted for the possession of marijuana and get arrested unlike any other crimes. Using marijuana doesn’t let people do bad things which is unbelievable that they get charged or even arrested. Furthermore, in the article, The Injustice of Marijuana Arrests, Jesse Wegman says, “The hundreds of thousands of people who are arrested each year, but do not go to jail also suffer; their arrests stay on their records for years, crippling their prospects for jobs, loans, housing and benefits.” Wegman is arguing that if marijuana was legal then less people will be prosecuted and it will not affect their social life. People should not have to suffer all because of a small amount of weed and should not be in jail for years or even a lifetime sentence. If marijuana is legalized, then the court system will be able to open up to more worst committed crimes and those criminals can be incarcerated, instead of the small usage of marijuana. Although marijuana can hurt some people, why is it that people can go to the liquor and buy drinks and go home to drink it, but they can’t buy marijuana and go home to smoke it. However, marijuana should not be illegal because so many people get arrested or prosecuted which can affect their lifestyle. It is unfair for people who get hurt or even killed for protesting and trying to show the pros of smoking marijuana.
Marijuana can do so much for the society if it is used right, which is why marijuana should be legal. The government should try and do their best if they do not want to have more people in jail , and that way they can build more schools by using the taxes of marijuana. Marijuana legalization can help so many people by taking away the pain and not have to worry about money on medication. Legalizing Marijuana is not as bad as alcohol or tobacco, which will not cause so much deaths, unlike alcohol or tobacco. If marijuana is legal then people will not have to worry about being prosecuted or even arrested for the simple possession of marijuana. Marijuana should be legalized and the government should stop making it such a big deal and not get more people into prison because studies have shown that there has been more prisons built since the 1980s compared to schools, and more money goes to prisons than to
schools.
In conclusion Marijuana has positive effects on both society and the wellbeing of individuals and should be legalized. It would be a logical decision for the government to legalize Marijuana due to the fact that firstly the government can monitor and tax Marijuana thus helping the economy. Secondly Marijuana can be used as medical therapy; thirdly there would be less youth and adults in jails and prisons. Point in fact the government would be able to manage all facets about Marijuana as follows price, importation and exportation and diminishing any drug cartels/markets. Additionally youth would not be prosecuted with possession of cannabis and fear an undetermined future. Lastly the positives incidentally outweigh the negatives over this concerning topic and thus a monumental decisions to legalize Marijuana.
Marijuana has had a negative appearance towards the public and government, but that all seems to be changing. Medical marijuana has started to have a huge impact on the United States and the world. It is a borderline substance that some people frown upon, but it has boosted the economy and has helped thousands of people across the United States overcome illnesses. But most people relate medical marijuana to recreational marijuana, which is still illegal in some states. Although many individuals find medical marijuana illegal, and unnecessary, it is a natural herb used to help symptoms caused by chronic illnesses. Over three million Americans use medical marijuana. Medical marijuana is the most widely used drug used to treat chronic illnesses. The use of medical marijuana has been a controversial issue here in America. Although, there are healthcare professionals that do believe that the use of medical marijuana can be very beneficial for certain patients. Just as there are benefits associated with the use of medical marijuana there are also negative effects associated with it.
Marijuana or cannabis, according to the Federal Government is considered dangerous and addictive and is, therefore, placed on the controlled substance list as a schedule 1 drug, making its use and possession illegal, as well it is considered one of the worst drugs. Other more harmful drugs such as cocaine are considered schedule II drugs, so according to the U.S Government cocaine is considered less hazardous than marijuana. There have been many studies conducted by scientist proving the benefits of medical marijuana in relieving chronic pain, nausea and a full array of other ailments. The benefits of legalizing marijuana far outweigh the bad. By allowing people to possess and use marijuana for medicinal purposes, we are improving society as a whole and increasing the happiness or utility of individuals who are living with debilitating conditions in turn this would create a happier society all around.
“One function of government is to protect citizens from harm, whether it is from foreign enemies or from internal causes such as poisonous food or contaminated water” (Wright). Therefore that is what one should be doing. Marijuana use to be legal in the United States. About 90% of the 782,000 people that are in the United States in 2007 were arrested for marijuana- related crimes (Decriminalizing). They were kept in custody for having possession of the drug (Decriminalizing). Between 60,000- 85,000 people of those 782,000 arrested were put in prison (Decriminalizing). Marijuana should not become decriminalized for many reasons. Some of the reasons include that it doesn’t meet classification standards to be a legal or illegal drug for medical purposes and people aren’t using the drug for the right reasons.
Marijuana has a greater beneficial impact on society then many people realize. Marijuana should be legalized for medical as well as recreational purposes. This is a highly controversial issue that is being debated throughout the country. In essence marijuana is evaluated by the effectiveness of the drug. It is defined as the dried flowered clusters and leaves of a hemp plant smoked for the intoxicating effect. Whether it should be legalized or not is the real question.
When many people think of using marijuana, the image of Woodstock, “Cheech and Chong” or Willy Nelson immediately pops into their heads, but marijuana isn’t just used to have a good time. Marijuana has generally been used recreationally. In recent years, however, research has found new ways to implement its effects. Marijuana has the ability to help bring comfort to patiens who have nausea and appetite loss, chronic pain, and mental disorders. I believe that marijuana should be legalized, not for recreation, but for the betterment of the lives of people suffering from illnesses throughout the United States.
Marijuana should be legalized because of its medical use, and religious use, Legalizing Marijuana would also generate billions of dollars in revenues and taxes for the U.S. government; whereas prohibiting Marijuana would cost taxpayers billions of dollars every year. Marijuana has a medical use, which people with certain health problems can benefit from if marijuana is legalized.... ... middle of paper ... ... There isn’t any good reason why marijuana should be illegal, because researchers haven’t found any conclusive evidence that prolonged use of marijuana can damage the human brain or nervous system.
The decriminalization of marijuana has been an intense debate since the end of the prohibition era. Although congress has their reasons for not legalizing marijuana, they are most likely clinging to their personal beliefs and failing to face the facts when it comes to this hot issue. Marijuana should be legalized because the cost of keeping marijuana illegal is expensive, prohibiting the use of it does not help the problem of over usage, and people deserve the freedom to use marijuana.
How many more times are you going to be lied to by the government? The government has made it seem like the marijuana plant is a drug that has no good use and is bad for the people. But that’s not true. They keep it illegal for reasons to benefit them. Marijuana has so many reasons why it should be legal. It should be legalized for 3 main reasons:It is safer than other substances that our legal, it could help with a wide range of different medical conditions, and it could be very beneficial and help the economy and industry.
So in fact, we are not legalizing a drug, only introducing a new weapon for fighting illnesses. I hope to have changed people?s minds that have some of the hostilities towards marijuana. Its uses go far beyond just getting "high." It can be used to make paper, therefore saving many trees, clothes, and most importantly for medicine. . The evidence has clearly shown that marijuana has been around for a great deal of time and has served multiple purposes throughout history. Although I do not condone smoking marijuana as a recreational drug, I feel that its positive aspects would greatly assist us in the present as well as the future.
I believe that marijuana should be legalized. Currently marijuana is legal, for both medicinal and recreational use in 24 states and The District of Columbia; with that, I don’t see why it can’t be legalized in all 50. Marijuana has more than 50 different uses, the main one being for medicinal purposes. I weed were to become legal, it would clear out a lot of space in our prisons. Which would help us to rebuild our economy. Also, it would fuel economic growth by creating a new income for the United States. People argue that marijuana is a gateway drug, meaning that it leads users to stronger, more dangerous drugs, but studies prove that assertion to be false. In conclusion, I believe that best thing for America is to legalize marijuana.
Marijuana continues to be one of the most used illegal drugs in the United States. Marijuana has been used for many years and at one time was legal to consume. Throughout the years, marijuana has been used for treatment of different medical conditions and has been used recreationally by people of all ages. While the use of medicinal marijuana has proven to be effective in treating medically ill patients, society continues to question its recreational use and the long term effects it will have on its users. Some feel that legalizing marijuana will only open up avenues for the use of more potent drugs, causing an increase in criminal activity. However, a number of people question why it is considered illegal being it is a naturally growing
It is not correct for me to point out marijuana as an illegal drug. In a few states and in our state of California, marijuana is legal for medical use. Upon a visit to a medical marijuana doctor, a person can receive a card to purchase marijuana to alleviate pain. It has been established that marijuana helps with nausea and vomiting, and anorexia. Cannabis is well confirmed in treating spasticity, painful conditions, movement disorders, asthma, and glaucoma.
Would making marijuana legal be a good thing for the United States? Some might say that marijuana should be legal, especially pertaining to medical use of the drug. Others might say that marijuana should not be legal in the United States because of the long-term effects on the brain and the physical health of a person. In my opinion, marijuana legalization would cause more people to use marijuana, more people to abuse the drug, would lead to more people to become addicted, and would cause issues with peoples mental and physical health. Marijuana, also known as the “weed”, is made from the cannabis plant which is primarily eaten or smoked to get high or “induce euphoria”.
Imagine a doctor prescribing marijuana to a person with muscle spasms caused by multiple sclerosis, Nausea from cancer, poor appetite and weight loss caused by chronic illness, Seizure disorders, and crohn’s disease. When we think of marijuana we think of drugs but, these drugs can be of help to you if you have these illnesses. Obviously, I am for having marijuana but, to a certain extent. I believe that marijuana should only be legal if used for medical purposes. The rest of the time marijuana should be illegal.
