Cypress Hill is known for being hip-hop’s first Latino group, but more notably for their endorsement of marijuana. The group showed support for the legalization of marijuana, however their slow instrumental rolling beats paved the way for a stoned funk that became influential in 90’s hip-hop (Google.com, 2014). Their song, “Hits from the bong,” describes the process of taking a hit of marijuana from a bong. The film portrays to viewers the effects of marijuana. On several accounts the film shows what kind of effects smoking marijuana can have on a person. Character Craig is seen having a bad trip in the kitchen as he looks for something to eat. He hallucinates and has delayed responsiveness. Also, Smokey has continuous ticks from a bad trip he had from smoking marijuana for the first time. The target population for this film is approximately from ages 12-25, however can be relatable in age groups above 25 years. The information provided in the film about marijuana use is seemingly less accurate in a sense. For cinematic purposes, exaggeration of some effects of marijuana on a person is seen in this film. Nonetheless, the effects of a drug are different for each person. This film has a negative and positive impact on encouraging/discouraging people to use marijuana.
