No one wants to admit it, but students everywhere use it. A big problem in today's classrooms is that teachers condemn the use of such a dastardly website where anyone can and supposedly will write whatever they want. Teachers don't think that Wikipedia is a accurate resource for information. Technically, the teachers are correct, but logically, they are horribly wrong.
What most people do not seem to understand is that "Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia, written collaboratively by the people who use it."(add source) There are thousands of people around the world who are either making a new page, rewriting or correcting information, or adding information at any given time during the day.
Wikipedia was officially launched on the January 15, 2001. The intention of this website was to have a neutral positions on all possible topics that could be included in this online encyclopedia. It was even originally supposed to be a company that made a profit, but Wales decided that to keep the number of audience or viewers per month growing steadily, it should operate with no ads whatsoever. At one point, anyone could write Wikipedia articles, even those without an account. The owners of the domain soon realized how bad of an idea that was when all the articles started to contain inaccuracies or became biased. Now, only people who have Wikipedia accounts have the power to edit or create articles.

These are also usually the kinds of people who would even bother writing or editing pages on the website. More often than not, the information that they put on the website are for other professionals who are in the same career field that could need the information. Let's be honest, the typical person does not have "Create and publish article on Wikipedia" on their to-do
“I understand what their concerns are. There’s no question that [on Wikipedia and similar sites] some things are great and some things are questionable. Some of the pages could be by eighth graders,” he said. “But to simply say ‘don’t use that one’ might take students in the wrong direction from the perspective of information literacy.”
In “Google never forgets: a caution tale,” Max Fawcett (2006) has cautioned readers to be careful of what you publish on the Internet. In the first part of this essay, he mentioned about the internet makes the digital equivalent of a dishonest diary to record your life knowledge, your opinions, and your shameful stories. It is catastrophic when you can not control over the biography’s content. Also, Google can keep everything that you posted many years ago, and they are coming behind of you same as a shadow. In the second part, he tried to explain to us that some of the information in the Internet are fake, unclear and outdated. The author used from Napa Valley as an example that “superior code is also ruthlessly efficient at finding every reference, however obscure, tangential or dated it might be, when an individual’s name is searched.” The author also stated that he made a website in 1998 and after a while and specifically in 2004 he came to search for himself and he discovered that Google still has this information kept in its memory. He also tried to clarify that Google can be a reason for an employee’s termination or job refusing when his/her boss or interviewer search about their background and find some negative feedbacks on their weblog.
Wikipedia is not considered reliable due to the fact that it can be edited by everyone, so we do not know about the accuracy of the information or the actual contributors of the article. Also due to the random editing feature of Wikipedia the information quite a times has to be cross checked with other sources thus making Wikipedia an unreliable source of information. Since Britannica authors are more experts and knowledgeable in their field of expertise, it can be trusted as a genuine source of information and can be used for research. Wikipedia contributors are always anonymous and free to just share their part of knowledge on the forum and therefore we really have to cross check with other sources to determine the accuracy of Wikipedia. Even Wikipedia accepts the fact that it cannot be used for research purposes. Another feature of Wikipedia is that ...
“Man masters nature not by force but by understanding. This is why science has succeeded where magic failed: because it has looked for no spell to cast over nature”. From the beginning of time man and nature has been in conflict with one another because, as a whole, there is no cooperating. Each one tirelessly wants its way. The Man is fighting for dominance and nature w never yielding its authority. In American Literature, many authors illustrate this theme in their writing. Specifically the writers Jack London in The Law Of Life, Stephen Crane The Open Boat and Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Fin. Each explores the relationship between humans and nature but with slightly different methods. Mark Twain uses nature in a realistic way, Jack London in a naturalistic way and Stephen Crane constitutes a combination of both.
is a personification of Wikipedia and was created in January 2006 by the editor then known as Kasuga.[a] She is an unofficial mascot of Wikipedia and is used in multiple WikiProjects. The "-tan" in "Wikipe-tan" is a hypocoristic suffix, in the form of a Japanese honorific. Like the OS-tans, she is a product of moe anthropomorphism.
In the first paragraph, Jaron appeals to the pathos of the reader; he assumes that the reader is of the generation that has grown up in the digital age, thus they would agree that the most important aspect of the internet is the people who contribute to it. However, there is no reason to ever assume that. Some people may actually believe that user contribution detracts from what makes the internet a viable source of information. For example, if the internet were controlled by academia, it would most likely be a peer reviewed source of information. However, as it is, anyone can contribute information to the internet, which makes the internet not a reliable source for knowledge. We can see this in academia, which typically does not support the use of Wikipedia as an academic source, and Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that relies entirely on user contribution.
However, suddenly he was stricken by the remembrance that he had failed to update his e-commerce blog today. In his blog he talked about the ins and outs of e-commerce, primarily through personal experience with customer-to-customer transactions on sites like craigslist and eBay. Johnny quickly veered off to the nearest internet café and opened up his laptop. Once Windows finally booted up, he double clicked on the shortcut to google chrome’s internet browser that was located on his taskbar. After searching the webpage he used to write his blog on googles search engine, he signed in and began writing today’s blog. At the end of his post he always provided a hyperlink to both craigslist and eBay so he’s readers could easily view the sites he spoke of. This time though, Johnny began to daydream about the path one’s computer must go through in order to move from his blog post all the way to eBay’s domain name www.eBay.com. It’s really cool stuff. Now that Johnny was done with his blog it was finally time to head home so he could start adding content to his favorite wiki webpage, Wikipedia. He often enjoyed updating other users’ poorly cited information. Hopefully it doesn’t get him into too much
What makes a good person good? According to WikiHow, "We should learn to define our own morals ourselves. One of the simplest ways to do so is to love others, and treat them as you would like to be treated. Try to think of others before yourself. Even doing small things daily will greatly enrich and improve your life, and the lives of others around you." This quote shows us what we need to do in order to be what society thinks as, “good". In order to be a good person, you have to do good and moral things in your society consistently. However people might think that by doing one good thing once in a while will automatically make you a “good person”, but in reality it doesn’t.
We are now living in an age of technology where the information contained on these sites is
Social media is a revolutionary way to connect to friends and family through a single app much like Facebook. Also allowing the public to be more informed on current events whether that would be an issue in today 's society all the way to a heartwarming story or a funny video. Although this sounds amazing and the fact that this type of news outlet is practically new. An issue arises that involves “fake news” and with that comes many opinions on what to do about it. I believe that people browsing these platforms should have a little bit of skepticism behind each story and if it the topic truly intrigues someone then they should look into the topic on a reliable resource before passing on the authors misinformation.
