Now that we have a good feeling to what animal testing is and where it is being done, I will explain why animal testing is wrong and the negatives that come from it. Humans are animals, so it may seem like non-human animals are perfect for finding out answers that we may not know about medications, chemicals, and products. But what people do not understand is that these animals are suffering. Animals and humans are morally equal therefore animals should be awarded the same respect as humans (Liou, July 6, 2010). As animal rights activist, Ingrid E. Newkirk quotes, “When it comes to having a central nervous system, and the ability to feel pain, hunger, and thirst, a rat is a pig, a pig is a dog, and a dog is a boy.” We all feel, think and behave in the same way but we still continue to harm and test animals for our own benefit without giving them a say. This is well said by Indian philosopher and poet, Sri Aurobindo, when he says “Life is life- whether in a cat, dog, or man. There is no difference between a cat or man. The idea of difference is a humans conception for man’s own advantage.”
Although researchers can reduce the pain for animals, they cannot completely prevent the pain and do not know for sure if the animal is comfortable. With some types of tests, anaesthetics are possible, but in others a pain reliever can …show more content…

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is in charge of enforcing the AWA and this department is also in the process of developing a law that will help govern and control human handling, care, and treatment for those animals that are bred for research.
