30 years ago, virtual reality or VR was not even thought of. And now we have advanced virtual reality gaming setups costing thousands. Virtual reality has been around for roughly 10 years now and some say that is it here to stay, while others say it will die off soon. I am a gamer at heart, but have not been around virtual reality enough to know all about it, other than the fact that it is fun and seems like we have only scratched the surface. My goals are to gather a bit more knowledge on current virtual reality tech, what’s to come of virtual reality, and virtual reality’s affect on gaming. VR is mainly in the gaming world. So I used the internet to find articles, and talked to my uncle who knows a bit about virtual reality himself, but a …show more content…
For example, the Oculus Rift. As Day states, “the Rifts creator, Palmer Luckey, was a 17-year-old sci-fi enthusiast when he started building the prototype in his parents basement in Long Beach California” (Day 3). It is hard to believe that a 17-year-old started a multimillion dollar business. “In the 2010’s, Oculus VR, a start-up company decided to release a Kickstarter project for their Oculus Rift virtual reality goggles” (Day 3). Little did they know the oculus rift started the love affair with virtual reality all over again. In 2014, Facebook bought Oculus for a staggering $2 billion. Soon after, other companies started releasing their VR technology. Thus starting the argument “which brand is …show more content…
“VR introduces gameplay mechanics that simply aren’t possible with traditional gaming platforms” (Hoff). VR and AR bring a lot to the table. Virtual reality can cost anywhere from $10 with google cardboard, to upwards of thousands. Some people just want practicality, while others just go all out and get insane virtual reality setups. A new virtual reality experience is the Virtuix Omni which allows you to move freely without getting hurt. Only downside is it is super expensive and is still being developed, but looks like it will be amazing when completed. We still have to explore the realm of virtual reality that is un- touched
Virtual reality can be used as an educational tool to assist not only students but teachers as well. Another major benefit of virtual reality is its use in the healthcare field. It can be used to treat several medical conditions such as anxiety disorders, mental health issues such as phobias, and it can even be used as a pain reliever (Matheison, 2017).
Gaming allows for other applications to be applied augmented reality. “Augmented reality can help in training, such as learning how to weld aided by a 3D environment that tracks user movements precisely. Seabery Augmented Training's Soldamatic application… could be used for medical training, bomb disposal and other industry verticals.” Another field that could benefit from AR technologies is the medical field, more specifically the surgical field.
There is a real fear the people will become addicted to virtual reality. There has not been many studies into the effects of Virtual reality on the brain. But Psychiatrist, Keith Albow, writes that Facebooks purchase of Oculus Rift will make virtual reality technology available to everyone, including teenagers. He fears that it will be highly addictive and it will make people psychiatrically ill. He has called on government to carry out trials on virtual reality to ensure that people are aware of the side effects which may include “addiction, depression, attention deficit disorder, anxiety or delusional thinking”. Have you ever awoken from a dream yearning intensely that the dream had lasted for a few more seconds so you could have collected that last sparkly diamond from the treasure or saved your friend from drowning or kissed your crush? Fortunately, you are living in an era where you don’t have to live with this regret forever. You’ve got much more than you might imagine completing that dream you had woken up out of too early with so many options such as virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, etc. The two of the hottest technologies today have to be augmented reality and virtual reality.
So now that we have gone through the history, let’s talk about what’s been going on with virtual reality today. What’s it currently being used for. Well like in the past it is still mostly used for entertainment and training purposes. For example when it comes to entertainment we already talked about “Google cardboard”. With the Google cardboard you can kind of go on a virtual tour of different places around the world. Another example of entertainment would be Sony’s Playstation VR which we also talked about earlier.
Definition of virtual reality is "A technology that assures participants that he was actually in another place by replacing the main sensory input with data received by the computer" [6] [10]. One of the key elements of the virtual reality of cyberspace; it is a space fantasy or simulation environment. The term Virtual Reality (VR) is used by many different people with many meanings. There are some people to whom VR is a specific collection of technologies, that is a Head Mounted Display, Glove Input Device and Audio. Some other people stretch the term to include conventional books, movies or pure fantasy and imagination. However, for purposes of this research, we restrict VR to computer mediated systems. We would define Virtual Reality as a way for humans to visualize, manipulate and interact with computers and extremely complex data.
In the past the field of view was not that much and a user could not look more than 170 to 210 degree. But now the companies have focused on making the VR gears to be for a whole 360 degree experience. Star Wars game is also one of the best example in this regard as it makes you feel like you are the soldier who is in the game and you are in that battlefield.
It was a cold and chilly night. Jax spent three hours waiting in line for the newest game, Eden. This game was the pinnacle of virtual reality gaming, boasting that if there was no menu, you could confuse it for reality. VR has been around for quite some time now. The military used it for combat training, and corporations used it for product simulations.
Although still in its, infancy, virtual reality will have a substantial effect on our future way of life. Virtual reality already has made astounding progress in the world of commercial design, and it is predicted to have a tremendous impact on everyday life as well. Virtual reality, when more available, will have various uses ranging from recreation to basic communication. The applications of virtual reality into different fields of occupations and research will have both positive and negative effects on our society.
Over the years society has changed in many different ways. In particular, technology has been the largest change that has occurred over the year. Only a few years ago the iPhone came out and it has forever changed the way people view their phone. Internet has also become very assessable resource. There are places everywhere to access a computer or free Wi-Fi. These changes have led to the alteration of the accessibility and use of technology in the education setting. The changes made to technology in the education setting have led to many positive outcomes that have allowed many types of people access to education that could not get it prior. There are however, many critics that refute these changes and say that virtual education can be biased and expensive. Although, there are many critics that do not agree with technology in education, have this can give access to many students with disabilities as well as people who have limited time or ability to further an education.

People’s over-use computers and other modern technology is causing vital skills to be lost as technology replaces traditional ways of doing things. We are losing communication skills, memorization skills, and ……..?????????. And with the loss of these skills, what happens when technology fails?
Augmented reality (AR) is the virtual object which is combination of 3D real environment in the real time. It is more interactive either with graphics or audio enhancing from what we can sense such smell, hear, see or feel it. In other words, it is duplicate the environment around the world in computer. There are applications in various areas in augmented reality and one of them is medical visualization more domain for augmented reality. The topic that discussed is augmented reality application in computer aided surgery and medicine. In research article (Tobias Sielhorst, Marco Feuerstein & Nassir Navab, 2008) medical augmented reality takes it motivation from the need of visualizing medical data and the patient within the same physical space. The reason for chose this topic because it is because this application more advance and the technologies always bring new visualization and interaction using augmented reality in 3D in surgery performing requirements. So, discussing these topics actually need many evaluations to perceive the result to the area of surgery and medicine in medical performance.

Imagine someone born in the early 1900’s entering a modern-day classroom. They would likely be confused as to what televisions, computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices are. It is also likely that they would be overwhelmed by the instant access to information that the internet provides. Digital media has become a large part of people’s everyday lives especially with the rise of digital media in classrooms. Digital media is growing so rapidly that people who are not adapting to this shift in culture are falling behind and becoming victims of the “digital divide”, this is leaving people misinformed.
