The 2016 presidential election has consumed all types of media and discussion throughout the nation and beyond. After having our first ever African American president, Barrack Obama, some citizens look to make the next president a woman. Hillary Clinton, the democratic party nominee, brings a lifelong list of qualifying credentials. Hillary, a former first lady, Secretary of State and a New York Senator, are among her qualifying work experiences. Although her list of work experience is lengthy, the outcomes of her decisions and actions have left me to wonder how she will handle presidential affairs. The Republicans, on the other hand, nominated an inexperienced, Donald Trump. He in fact, has had several bankruptcies during his career as a …show more content…
Education should be affordable and supported better through taxation. A fair and balanced living wage needs to be addressed as there are too many people living in poverty. Gun restrictions, that include background checks and training are much needed in our country. Voting requirements under Stein’s platform, involves every citizen to be issued a voter I.D at the age of 18. This seems like a logical solution to ensure legal votes and support a greater voter turnout. I didn’t realize how many views I shared with her prior to taking a political stance quiz. As it turns out, I side with a whopping 84% of Stein’s views! I feel cheated in this election. The two party system, has taken over mainstream media and muddied the water for voters to be informed without rash propaganda. Jill Stein has not been given the opportunity to speak to the voters of our nation in any equal terms like the Republicans and Democrats have. My vote will go to Jill Stein because she is the only one that I can vote for in good conscience. I recognize that her plan of action to these issues have been vague but, I believe in her views. I also believe that whatever reforms she did have the opportunity to address, wouldn’t hurt us. The long-term effects of the current nominees for the Republican party and democratic party, are too great of a risk. This year, I am supporting the Green Party and hope to see not only vote the first woman president, but the first Green-woman
In this essay, I will explain why Texas should retain the partisan election of judges. Texas is one of the few states that elect their judges using a Partisan voting method. Partisan elections can be unfair and can misinform the voter. A high legal position such as a judge should never be chosen in such a manner. Partisan elections often cost more than nonpartisan elections in campaigning. Partisan elections are also more likely to lead to straight ticket voting or mindless voting. Partisan elections also lead to more campaign contributions and can increase the power of constituencies. Lastly partisan elections can cause an imbalance in equal represent the population. Therefore, Partisanship voting does not belong in the courts of Texas and
Particularly, Landrieu has made affordability for college education and creating easier access to the middle class her major campaign theme. Her solution to this is to create easier access to post-secondary education. Landrieu has focused on two viable options to create an easier path to the middle class. The first option is to increase the purchasing power of the Federal Pell Grant for college students. The second option is a loan refinancing option that will help lower the amount of student debts accumulated during the college years. Coastal issues are also a major theme in Landrieu’s campaign, as she says she will fight for the coastal communities. Hurricane protection, wetland restoration, navigation, commercial fisheries and even future land use are all areas that Landrieu advocated as major issues she will combat if reelected. Landrieu has also made energy reform as a major aspect of her campaign. Landrieu’s goal is to make the U.S. energy independent. Landrieu has supported the Keystone XL pipeline from the beginning
The United States of America is often touted as the guiding beacon of democracy for the entirety of the modern world. In spite of this tremendous responsibility the political system of the United States retains some aspects which upon examination appear to be significantly undemocratic. Perhaps the most perplexing and oft misunderstood of these establishments is the process of electing the president and the institution known as the Electoral College. The puzzle of the Electoral College presents the American people with a unique conundrum as the mark of any true democracy is the citizens’ ability to elect their own ruling officials. Unfortunately, the Electoral College system dilutes this essential capacity by introducing an election by
Voting is at the center of every democratic system. In america, it is the system in which a president is elected into office, and people express their opinion. Many people walk into the voting booth with the thought that every vote counts, and that their vote might be the one that matters above all else. But in reality, America’s voting system is old and flawed in many ways. Electoral College is a commonly used term on the topic of elections but few people actually know how it works.
The Democratic Flaw: The Electoral College may be Taking Away Your Voting Rights. Who do you think will decide the next President of the United States? Most people would probably say the same.
Over the recent year’s American voters have brought back a way of voting that was used during the country’s old age of existence, this rediscovered act is known as early voting. Early voting started in the early 1990s, though the outcome has not had such a high consistency over the years it is still recommended to help the Election Day process in the country. Since voter turnout is not entirely consistent due to the process being constantly shortened by state laws, the argument against early voting is that it is a waste of taxpayers’ money, opponents believe it is ineffective. Although that is not the case, in his 2016 blog article, “A Brief History of Early Voting,” Michael McDonald inform readers on the brief history of early voting as he states how the rates of voters who has cast their ballots before election day has increased over the years, “from less than a tenth to about a third” (qtd. in McDonald) since the 1990s. This proves to show why the money being spent on this act is not simply being wasted. Although early voting has
Hillary Clinton is running a campaign for a GOP nomination, in which much of her support is based on her persona as an advocate of women’s rights. Depictions of Clinton’s projected image have little basis in fact. While she is not overtly misogynistic or racist like other politicians who are running for presidency, her actions as a policymaker have had the same devastating impacts to non-white women locally in America and abroad as her male peers. Though Clinton is one of the first women to run for presidency and be taken seriously (which certainly is to due to white privilege), she still condones foreign policies that destroy the lives of women around the world.
Approximately 200 years ago, our founding fathers of America began a tedious process of carefully designing and crafting an idea to solve the problem of selecting president. Soon, the idea of citizens indirectly selecting the president soon bloomed into the formation of the initial College of Electors. Although some individuals cherish this firm establishment, I firmly think the Electoral College fails to balance power and politically sustain our nation.
“Man masters nature not by force but by understanding. This is why science has succeeded where magic failed: because it has looked for no spell to cast over nature”. From the beginning of time man and nature has been in conflict with one another because, as a whole, there is no cooperating. Each one tirelessly wants its way. The Man is fighting for dominance and nature w never yielding its authority. In American Literature, many authors illustrate this theme in their writing. Specifically the writers Jack London in The Law Of Life, Stephen Crane The Open Boat and Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Fin. Each explores the relationship between humans and nature but with slightly different methods. Mark Twain uses nature in a realistic way, Jack London in a naturalistic way and Stephen Crane constitutes a combination of both.
Unknowingly to many Americans, when they go to vote on Election day, they aren 't actually voting for their favorite presidential candidate but, they are actually voting to elect a group of state electors, who will select the president on the behalf of the general public. They have pledged to vote for a specific candidate in the Electoral College, which is the group of representatives that actually elects the President and Vice President. Currently, the Electoral College has 538 members who represent each state, equal to the number of representatives and senators that represent the state in Congress. One exception is Washington D.C. who still has three electoral votes, despite not having any representation in congress. For a candidate to win
With the election coming to an end, presidential nominee Donald Trump made a statement, if he were to lose the election it would be because of voter fraud. With that statement he has encouraged his supports to be aware of voter fraud at the voting polls. Many believe this will cause chaos at the polls this year as his supports remain to be loyal to their candidate and will honor his request. To some, they feel this might imitate some voters. As I have seen a lot of this topic on social media, I was able to find a few articles that may answer that question to if voter fraud is a serious problem or not.
What makes a good person good? According to WikiHow, "We should learn to define our own morals ourselves. One of the simplest ways to do so is to love others, and treat them as you would like to be treated. Try to think of others before yourself. Even doing small things daily will greatly enrich and improve your life, and the lives of others around you." This quote shows us what we need to do in order to be what society thinks as, “good". In order to be a good person, you have to do good and moral things in your society consistently. However people might think that by doing one good thing once in a while will automatically make you a “good person”, but in reality it doesn’t.
Many Americans are beginning to wonder who will run as the Democratic candidate for the next president of the United States. Since the 2008 election, one particular name has been the topic of conversation around most media outlets and households across the county. With over one million supporters who believe in her abilities to lead, Hillary Clinton possesses the qualities that meet the leadership criteria that would help her to become the leader of the free world. I choose to research Hillary Clinton because I admire the drive and passion she puts into her work. She is a unique global leader whose activism has promoted social change around the world.
The primary instrument of God and his grace in the teaching of the faith is….THE PERSON OF THE CATECHIST! This is true whether the catechists are the parents, who are called upon by God to be the first and primary educators of their children, especially in the ways of faith, or the volunteer parish catechist in a parish religious education program, or the Catholic school teacher. In his Sept. 29, 2013, homily to catechists, Pope Francis spoke the following: “A catechist is a Christian who puts this remembrance at the service of proclamation, not to seem important, not to talk about himself or herself, but to talk about God, about his love and his fidelity.
Politics is one of the most debated topics in the country today. With the wide variety of values present in America, it is bound to be a difficult topic to discuss. I’ve grown up in a family of democrats with religiously republican grandparents. Considering myself an Independent leaning democratic, I can usually calmly talk politics with my family. This year’s election has made any conversation surrounding politics toxic to my family and creates a large argument of one side or the other and no in between.
