Topic: Racist advertisement Intel Corporation is an American multinational semiconductor chip maker corporation and have released an ad that was quite controversial. In the ad, we can identify a white business man standing in the middle of two rows of black men that are in track attire in their ready positions (they are runners). We can clearly see lots of desks that are all aligned, the ad appears to be in a corporate or business environment. What intel is trying to do is represent sprinters for the speed of their new computer chip. If we think about it, if there had been a single white runner amongst those black men, this advertisement would have been completely fine. These quotes in relation to the ad are quite shocking and very disturbing as it speaks that it is good to exploit black men to have a better business because of their “performance” this can be related to the fact that in the ad it is in an office and corporate environment. This ad may also turn off many buisnissmen or foreign investors who do not want to be seen doing buisness with intel because of its inappropriate marketing techniques and strategies. Intel could have taken an alternative approach for this ad, instead of using a caucasian manager, they could have used a black or african american manager. They could have kept the caucasian manager but at least they should have changed the ethnicities of the runners to have more diversity and this would not depict this ad as being ethnically racist or culturally insensitive and

Racism and discrimination continue to be a prevalent problem in American society. Although minorities have made significant strides toward autonomy and equality, the images in media, specifically television, continue to misrepresent and manipulate the public opinion of blacks. It is no longer a blatant practice upheld by the law and celebrated with hangings and beatings, but instead it is a subtle practice that is perceived in the entertainment and media industries. Whether it’s appearing in disparaging roles or being negatively portrayed in newscasts, blacks continue to be the victims of an industry that relies on old ideas to appeal to the majority. The viscous cycle that is the unconscious racism of the media continues to not only be detrimental to the white consumers, who base what they know about blacks on what is represented on television, but also the black consumers, who grow up with a false sense of identity.

It states that the governments "politics are determined by the colour a persons skin". As this is a statement it gives the impression that it is a fact and by giving this impression it also communicates the idea that the South African government IS racist, rather than the South African government COULD be racist. Racism is a repulsive issue that is becoming more and more evident to the people living in America. It is not something that is taken lightly in society today, and it can be extremely offensive to many. Even though everyone reacts differently to it, it is important for all people to make an honest effort to respect others regardless of their racial and ethnic backgrounds. People must change their stereotypical thoughts about others and help decrease or end racism by addressing any issues in which racism is concerned. Results in response to different approaches to confront the situation have occurred, but it still remains very real within our world today. Although some changes have been seen, racism in advertising is still tremendously evident due to very weak, offensive comical attempts, the unawareness of advertisers, and the depiction of society’s ideal person.
Overall, Sony has created an advertisement, which may be easily interpreted by different audiences as racist from. Audiences whom are affected by an ethical value against racism will condemn this advertisement for its inconsiderate use of imagery, misleading text, and use of shock. Different audiences will always view advertisements from different perspectives; however, advertisers must consider the ‘taboos’ of today’s world from a global perspective when creating advertisements to avoid such hysteria or in order to evoke it in order to receive more attention, which may have been Sony’s true purpose.
