Let’s get one thing clear, I’m not usually for the whole Pixel Art thing in games such as FEZ (I’ll come back to this) or Minecraft but when I launched Poncho, I will not lie I called my roommates and told them to have a look so we could share a collective “oooooo” Poncho isn’t what I would call a beautiful game, it’s more charming if anything and it becomes clear that this is probably the prettiest post-apocalyptic game around (except for The Last of Us but that’s not a fair comparison) Poncho is a two-dimensional (2D) side scrolling platformer, puzzler extraordinaire (I add the extraordinaire part because it felt appropriate) which puts you into the poncho (see what I did there) of the Robot you play as who is also called Poncho, anyone else sensing a theme here? Going back to the gameplay of Poncho, the layer switching gives the game more depth than most 2D games give you, if you see something in the background, you will be able to interact with it. It’s an experience you usually get with open world games like Skyrim but it is nice to see such a feature on a smaller game like this because the world feels more personal to you.
