Currently, there is a new sensation sweeping the nation, being blindly accepted as a healthy alternative to something which previously had taken the lives of many. Little do the citizens of America know, there are many uncertainties about this sensation that lead to questions and concerns about the serious long term consequences that may occur as a result of this newly developed activity. The recreation in question is in fact, the use of e-cigarettes. Although the widespread use of e-cigarettes may be beneficial in certain scenarios, such as to aid those who wish to cease smoking, it is a dangerous, unregulated activity due to the severe lack of credible evidence confirming its complete safety.

E-cigarettes are a fairly new line of products, which cause controversy internationally, especially in the United States. There are many complicated issues which arise from the speedy spread of the use of e-cigarettes that call for far more regulation than currently exists. To name a few pressing topics, there have been levels of carcinogens detected in the nicotine solution used in the vapor cigarettes. Since e-cigarettes are such a new and undeveloped concept, there is very minimal evidence which supports the overall healthiness of e-cigarettes, as “experts say they are probably safer, but safer doesn't mean safe” (Wanjek 3). Due to the fact that the nicotine solution used in the e-liquid is generally derived from tobacco, it is naturally the source of the carcinogens found in e-liquids.
