Think about how many cups of coffee you have drank in the past week. Now while still thinking of this number, have you taken into consideration how coffee plays a role on your health? Odds are that somewhere along the lines you have read an article on the internet, heard someone talking about it, or watched something on television pertaining to coffee’s benefits and risks. It has become a very controversial topic pertaining to the positive and negative effects regarding health. The health aspects that are most important in regards to this research are diabetes, cancer, and conditions effecting the heart; however, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, mental, and physical health are also relevant. Everyone should know how what they are consuming is effecting their health, which is becoming more and more overlooked. Provided were facts regarding coffees effect on multiple health aspects including: cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular, and ethical health concerns; however, these are only the most important. There are other benefits that result from drinking coffee, but pertain to health aspects that don’t cause thousands or even millions of death worldwide. The argument isn’t to force you to drink coffee, but instead to make you realize that there is much more to coffee then you might think. The research proves that the pros most definitely outweigh the cons; however, even saying so there will always be counterarguments why you shouldn’t drink coffee. This article is talking about a mayor banning beverages larger than 16 oz. at restaurants, sports arenas and movie theaters. The reason this mayor wants to ban large sodas is because he is afraid for all of New York’s health. That’s a good thing because a lot of us don’t know what we drink and eat most of the time. We just eat our food we don’t even bother to look what’s really in side such as calories, fats and oils in our food. This Mayor is doing New York a huge favor by banning large sodas. He’s helping everyone in New York about their health but people of New York doesn’t see that. There are people who are trying to not let him pass this law because some of them probably drink 16 oz. every day of once a week or twice a week or even more.

Supposedly, there’s an old wives’ tale that claims “coffee stunts your growth.” The exact origin of the myth rests unknown, but it thought to have originated from the Europeans (Grabinski et al. 2). Over several decades, multiple studies have concluded that coffee actually does not stunt growth, helping to diminish previous ideas that it did. The misconception that coffee stunts growth acts as an old wife’s tale however, height is hereditary, and drinking coffee has many unknown health benefits.

In the past couple years people all around the nation, whether it's in New York City or an 8th Grade classroom in Michigan, people have been pressed with the question, whether the New York Soda Ban, is a good thing, improving health, or if there is a larger issue. Is this decision showing evidence of the Government interfering with our basic civil liberties?
Sugar is one of the most consumed commodities in the world today, and the profits of it are significant. According to Larry Schwartz (2014) “Americans consume 130 pounds of sugar every year” (Schwartz, 2014). We must be acknowledged about how it all started, to appreciate how people lived and how they struggled to provide such a commodity. Sugar was a profitable commodity in the fifteenth and sixteenth century. The cultivation of sugarcane expanded to the United States of America, which brought enslaves from Africa to work on the plantation of sugar during the 17th century. Sugar was known as the white gold for its income, which helped the U.S. to achieve independence from Great Britain. Although sugar has the worst history, it is widely used for nutritional, medical and industrial productions, and sugar manufacturing led to an industrial development and economic growth.
Most people have moments in their life where they just want to enjoy an expensive Caribou drink without paying for it. The kind of drink that makes one gasp when they first see it, and when they take a sip of it their mouth craves for more. I would love this free drink. In order to get one, I must be able to find the right person and persuade them to buy it for me. Athletes around the world are drinking these beverages for a boost in athletic performance and stamina to get an edge over their opponents. These drinks are even being promoted by professional athletes! This increasing popularity and consumption begs the question: are these drinks safe? I decided to dig into this question, and I have found some pretty startling answers. The drinks may bring enhanced performance and energy, but they also come with potential health risks. These health risks heavily outweigh the benefits the drinks could possibly bring.
The media fails to project the negative effects of excessive caffeine intake. This literature review will illustrate how excessive caffeine consumption can be detrimental to one’s life, and how problematic caffeine use derives from conditioning by the caffeine industry. Caffeine is the single most widely consumed psychoactive substance in the United States (Einöther & Giesbrecht, 2013). According to Einöther and Giesbrecht (2013), 80% of the world’s population consumes caffeinated products every day, with coffee and tea being the primary sources. In the recent years, the demand for coffee has increased, causing the caffeine industry to create an expansion of coffee shops, new caffeinated beverages (Bailey, Saldanha, Gahche, & Dwyer, 2014), and mass-media advertising.
Coffee and tea are the most consumed beverages to start the day. Coffee and tea can be made as either a hot or cold beverages. Each of them originates from a form of plant. Coffee comes from the coffee bean. It is then roasted and eventually sent out for consumers across the world to purchase at their pleasure. Tea leaves are gathered and dried and are either packaged in individual bags or are sent out as dried fruit and leaves to be used in a tea infuser. Many people choose to drink either coffee or tea as a personal preference. Now the question becomes, who is actually benefitting from their consumption? While the average coffee lover drinks 23 gallons of coffee every year, a tea enthusiast would generally drink 10.3 gallons a year. With this amount being consumed each year, what effect does it have on the human body?
