In past times when you would turn on your television set there was always a commercial on that promoted either a new brand of cigarettes or a brand of cigarettes that was already out before then. Even when I was just a little kid I remember seeing so many commercials on a brand of cigarettes called Camel. There were so many commercials back then that focused on cigarettes that even sometimes when there was a commercial on something different there was always one person or a few people either smoking or a particular brand was placed inside the commercial that help promote it which would also catch viewers’ attention. It happened in movies, TV shows, and even in reality. Cigarettes are everywhere! However, people started to fight back by creating …show more content…
They never actually showed any kind of proof of what they were talking about, but in this commercial it sort of gave us a view on how things played out for a family who experienced everything that Truth is all about. But, when you compare this commercial to other anti-smoking commercials it gives us more of an actual understanding on what cigarettes can do. Instead of hiring actors to do their commercials they get actual people who have gone through terrible situations just because they began smoking. You would see people who had some of their body parts amputated, people who have Laryngectomy, and people who developed skin disorders just from smoking. There are even commercials where you have people physically removing their own teeth, skin, and sometimes their own body parts by hand just to buy a pack of cigarettes. Those kinds of commercials showed people that this is what you’re giving up by smoking on cigarettes, and even though Truth commercials did speak on the dangers of cigarettes it never actually showed any kind of proof behind of what they were saying up until …show more content…
The video itself was created by ‘Truth’, which is an organization where they inform people about what smoking can do to them, and on the video it stated that “22 million children are exposed to secondhand smoke every day,” which can cause children to develop asthma without them even having the symptoms that can possibly lead up to it. It was also stated that “Secondhand smoke exposure increases vulnerability to nicotine addiction”, and that was one of the few reasons as to why the little girl started smoking once she became older. The audience that they were trying to reach included everyone across the world, but it mainly focused on the actual smoker. It showed how it opened up a chain of events for one individual, and how it also brought unfortunate circumstances for another person. The demeanor behind it all was pretty much a sad one because everything was so dull, and washed out. The music that was used inside the commercial was very soft, and it reminded me of a piano playing during a sad scene in a movie. Even the setting was very simple because it showed the very same colors throughout the entire commercial, which were mainly primary shades, and everything seemed to be very empty. No one was happy at all when it came to cigarettes, and the message I gathered from it is that no matter where you are smoking affects not
The first point is the advertisement has an effective pathos. The picture describes the emotions on people who are smoking. It shows a man who is dying from smoking, which has a bad health. The picture will keep the person think about the emotions or feeling for the people who smoke. The advertisement shows that smoking will lead to many diseases
The commercial had a deeper meaning throughout to depict the audience, purpose, content, creator’s reasons, and the structure of the video. The audience was aimed for teenagers, smokers, and parents. The purpose was to show how smoking was bad a bad effect on a person’s life. Throughout the commercial were phrases to influence people on how terrible to smoke. The creator of the video obviously wanted to show teenagers how that smoking will pull you away from your life. The structure of the commercial was well organized to leave a lasting effect on the reasons why smoking is bad for a
Set in a black background, the advertisement displays a man on the left side with a cigarette between his lips. The tip of the cigarette creates smoke that fills the right side of the frame, with the smoke taking the shape of a “smoking” gun with its barrel pointing back at the man. At the bottom of the picture, a line of text can be seen that says “Kill a Cigarette and Save a Life. Yours.” Given these elements, the main idea of the image is that smoking kills. Particularly, smoking can kill the
Over the last 50 years, smoking and the public image of smoking has changed dramatically. Americans have learned the harmful effects of smoking and have put a heavy disdain on the use of it. The number of new smokers has drastically dropped over the years and many that had previously smoked have stopped. Some have turned to electronic cigarettes as a safer way to intake nicotine. Over the years, smoking advertisements have changed drastically. Nowadays, tobacco advertisements are virtually non-existent in our society, but when they were abundant they depicted smoking as a cool and sophisticated activity. Today, smoking advertisements are shown by electronic cigarette companies. These companies emphasize the healthier lifestyle these products
Cigarettes have become a national icon, as big as the likes of cooperating giants such as Coca-Cola, as people are familiar with the idea of smoking from such a young age, becoming so addicted and subservient to seeing the act as normalcy in modern day America. Therefore certain solutions are needed to, at the very least, help make this icon less harmful to this country’s health. Both online articles, “Are Herbal and ‘Natural’ Cigarettes Safer?” by Ennis Thompson Jr.’s and “Marlboro Introduces Vitamin-Infused Cigarettes” by The Daily Currant argue that the so called “healthy” or “natural” cigarettes actually have a few health benefits and are only just a way to slow down the dangers of smoking. The Daily Currant makes a valid argument through
Experiencing the death of a loved one is never easy, especially when the cause is something self-inflicted, such as cigarettes. Imagine if that loved one was your parent or even worse, your own child. Now, imagine watching the demise and physical incapacities that transpire while you see them deteriorate right in front of you. Feel the anger that would coarse through your veins if you were to see an add that glamorized such deadly instruments, particularly once you realize that the areas being marketed are lower class. Cigarettes are legal killers that cripple many individuals and families alike. They are a highly addictive substance that benefit no one. I am against cigarettes in every capacity as I have dealt with the effects of it on a personal level. Cigarettes leave a distaste in the mouth literally and figuratively. I am also a firm believer that

Smoking Kills. This is no longer a myth, it’s a fact. According to the British Medical Journal, every time a person smoke a cigarette, he or she will lose about eleven minutes of life here on earth and subject yourself to cancer. In the advertisement below, you can easily tell from just looking at the picture that this ad is against smoking. The ad portrays the message that smoking is deadly, and is able to be comprehended by people of all ages in the hopes that the viewers do not get into a fatal habit such as abusing cigarettes. Essentially, smoking cigarettes is a long term form of suicide. A man is holding a lit cigarette in his hand with his middle and pointer finger, and his thumb held up. As shown in the
Cigarettes are one of the most common killers known to mankind. Cigarettes kill about 6 million people every year, and that number isn’t going to go down in less we do something about it. Smoking in the twentieth century killed only 100 million people, whereas a billion could die in our century. There are several more reasons why we should ban cigarettes, and I am going list them.
Based on the voice of the narrator, we can conclude that the commercial was produced in Australia. The anti-smoking campaign heating up pretty well (at least in the United States) within the last seven or so years, so it’s likely the audience has been reached at it’s maximum, much like similar campaigns. This commercial is a bit unique as it targets primarily the smoker who is also a parent. Many of its sorts typically are aimed at teenagers, those tryin...
In recent years, smoking has started to take over the lives of many teenagers. The number of teenagers smoking has increased dramatically in the last several years. This is a major problem because smoking can lead to sickness and major diseases that can lead to death. Teens tend to participate in this while out of the presence of an adult figure. Although teens should not be smoking in the first place, an adult figure should be around to help insure that their children are doing the right things, even when they are behind sealed doors with their peers. Teenagers as they mature become a model for younger children and when they set the example of smoking can ruin their respectable image to the children that look up to them.
Cigarettes are so addictive, so why are they still legal today? The effects of smoking on a person and around that person are so extreme and harmful that smoking should not be legal for anyone. It really amazes me why anybody would smoke and harm their body if they knew how bad it can harm their health, and potentially cause death. Not only is smoking just unhealthy, the bigger problem is that smoking can lead to death. Smoking should be made illegal since there are many negative and dangerous consequences such as secondhand, and thirdhand smoke related illnesses, health risks to the smoker, and health risks to people around the smoker. Although, if cigarettes were made illegal people that are employed by Cigarette industries would lose their
However, every day there are kids, not old enough to drive, take a puff from their first cigarette and become unaware of toxins that are consuming their bodies. For young smokers, they want to fit in with their peers and it gives them a false sense of autonomy. They are fascinated by smoking and think it looks cool. Each day, an estimated 2,100 youth and young adults who have been occasional smokers become daily cigarette smokers(CDC). Smoking sneaks up on them, every day you smoke more than before; that’s because of nicotine. Nicotine is a highly addictive substance. It ends up burying itself in the consumer’s body and mentally the sensation gets you addicted. While some people might argue, smoking helps to cope with depression and stress; it kills you overtime. Physical withdrawal. On average smoking cigarettes, takes 10 years from your life away. Walt Disney, George Harrison and Steve McQueen all died from lung cancer. The ad displays a man loading up the revolver with cigarettes, it conveys a message that with every cigarette you are essentially killing yourself, similarly to a game of Russian roulette, you play till you
But unfortunately I have no choice in most public patios. One says passive smoking but I want rather call it involuntary smoking .
