Video Game Violence Video games have been a huge topic for debate for many years. It is a subject in which some people think that the violence in video games desensitizes us to the real thing. While other people believe that video games are harmless and do not contribute to real life violence. I have been playing video games for a number of years and so far I have never felt like I need to emulate any of the violent video games I have played. With that being said I do not feel like video games promote one to commit any violent behavior. Adam Lanza was a twenty year old mass killer who killed a total of 28 people in Newtown, Conn. back in 2012. Immediately following this tragic offense Adam shot himself committing suicide. It has been reported that Adam was an avid gamer who enjoyed violent video games. Some believe that those same violent video games contributed to his outlandish behavior. I would have to disagree with this because I am positive he was not the only twenty year old who has ever played those games and the others did not go and shoot up a school. One would have to factor in was that person feeling neglected early in life? Was that person picked on all his life? Was he abused by his parents as a child who caused him to lash out on others? There’s a far bigger picture to this. We as parents know the mental capacity of our children; we know whether or not they can handle such violence. However, instead of accepting our failure to check out the rating on a game or are laziness to look up a review before we make a purchase we would rather place the blame on someone else when some already violent kids goes on a rampage.
