Violence in video games supposedly causing violence and criminal acts in real life has been argued for many years and a solution has been proposed. Since many people believe that violence or a criminal act in real life is more likely to occur at the hands of someone who has played a violent video game as a child, an age limit on certain kinds of violence in games has been proposed. I believe that if parents regulate their children and make sure that their child is not being negatively affected then no problems would arise from this.
I believe that in order to think that being violent and/or committing crimes is okay, you must have some sort of mental issue, or have had a bad childhood or you just aren't having a good life at the moment. Whatever

it may be, there is a much better reason to be doing that than by playing something that is not real, and is not real life. In other words, I believe that there are much worse problems at hand than some video games that depict violence and that people have much worse reasoning behind committing crimes or acts of violence. Some may say, violent video games can get into a child's mind and make him/her believe that the things depicted in the game are okay, and that they might be able to do them without getting in trouble.
They use this argument to get their point across, which is that violent video games cause violent acts and acts of crime in real life. The proposed solution to it, is a specific age that you must be to play or watch the game be played. However this is easily counteracted.
According to the American Psychological Association, there is not sufficient evidence to prove that violent video games are the cause of violence and crime in real life. The only correlation between violence in video games and real life, is that those that play violent video games are slightly more aggressive, not violent. More studies and research is needed to determine a better path and to create more knowledge on the subject.
All in all, I believe that if you think that it is okay to commit a crime, then you have some sort of mental disorder or you have had a rough childhood, or you are currently going through hardship. There are much more disturbing reasons that people commit crimes and are more violent than others than because they have played a video game that depicts
violence.
Now a day every video game has something violent going on. Such as in 2010 the top 20 games out in the market were violent related. When a kid sees in a video game that he can beat someone else up and get away with it they think they can do that in real life. This will increase bullying and kids are being taught not to bully. Every kid plays video games even if it’s a racing game or a shooting game. In 2008, 97% of kids from the age of 12-17 played video games. Most M rated games have sexual violence and when a kid sees that in a game and then beats the girl up. The crime rate for rape will increase as it has. A study in 2009 found that it only takes a child four minutes of playing a game to make him have aggressive and violent thoughts going through his head. The critics of violent video game has that bully has increase 32% because of violent video games. Also in the study when a child sees blood when beating up or killing someone in a game he will have more aggressive thoughts than normal.
As mentioned before, there is no proof of any negative connection between the simulated violence in video games and violent crimes in the real world. The people who say video game violence can cause real world aggression may just be trying to find a way to
One would be hard-pressed to find a household without any video gaming devices. In fact, over eighty percent of American households some sort of gaming device. On top of all that, violent video games have surged in popularity, occupying over 50% of the 30 top video games sold in 2015 (Kain). In light of recent mass shootings, video games are routinely accused as the culprit that influences one to violence. Researchers all over the world have tried to establish a causal relationship between video games and violence. Some researchers have come to the conclusion that video games, specifically violent ones, spark aggression. However, other researchers have come up with the opposite conclusion, that the studies that portray video games as detrimental
At this day in age we bask in the luxury of having easy access to advanced technology at our disposal. From the World Wide Web, to cell phones, music, movies and video games the human race has thought of any and everything to keep us entertained. Over the years studies have shown reasonable concerns regarding the long-term effects of video games. These games can desensitize gamers to real life violence, which is usually seen in the younger crowd. The studies especially hit on the games containing player-on-player violence. Though these games are extremely entertaining and can get kids to settle down for a while, if not properly supervised, they can produce adverse effects. Other studies have shown that video games can be used as way to yield positive outcomes such as, good problem solving skills, cooperation in a group and the ability to flow. Although there has been psychological research on children learning through the actions of others some believe that children are automatically able to distinguish between what is just a game and what is reality. The longer they are allowed on their game system the more they become convinced that their games are real. Some researchers believe violent video games can channel the aggression of the child but the parents are to blame for what happens to the child after playing an excessive amount over a period of time. Children can become preoccupied with these violent video games which have been proven to be the cause of poor social skills, uncontrollable aggression and a false reality.
However, there are also very strong evidence showing that video games dont contribute to violence. For example in U.S the arrest of juvenile murders has decreased by 71.9% between 1995 – 2008 while the popularity of violent video games increased. This data can show us that more the kids play video games the less murderer children there will be.
In the present days, many young people seek out violence video games for entertainment. According to an article by an experimental psychologist, Pinker conclude that “exposure to video game has not been shown to be predictive violent behavior” (“Pinker”) . In the other word, video is not the cause to violent. There are many others causes that led to children aggressive behavior such as family violence, bullying or any abusive experience. Assistant professor, Malliet supported that “teens have ability to distinguish between fantasy and reality prevent them from emulating video game violence in real life” (“Malliet”). Kids these days are growing up faster therefore they know the differences between reality and fantasy. They know the consequence for committing a crime and they are that dumb to carry out a violent act. Base on these facts, it is safe for kids to play video game.
A review in 2004 did not show a clear relation between video game violence and real life violence. The study found that for every 1% increase in violent video game sales there was a .03% decrease in real life violence. (Fournis,
Violent video games popularity heightens in today’s technological society, especially with children and teenagers. Many children and teenagers play these violent video games, and most parents worry about the side effects that will stem later in life from too much violence in these violent video games. Some children have trouble associating the difference between reality and fiction. Also, violent video games hinder the social growth of children. Many people and researchers worry that the violent video games have negative effects on teenagers and children, and these people and researchers believe that these violent video games are the cause of youth violence.
Although video games can have no urges in young adults and children to commit violent crimes because most all video games are fictional and not based on real life events or moments in history .An example to prove this is “We found that game sales related to a decrease in crimes, and especially violent crimes.” (Carey). This can tell us that because of the increase in sales of video games which lead to a decrease in crimes because of how the games are fictional, so they had no effect on teenagers or people who bought the game on how violent they would become from playing the games. Meanwhile, there are a higher percentage of young adults and children that do play the games such as GTA. An example of how video games can have negative effects on the people who do play the violent games is “In surveys about 80% of High School age boys say they play video games most of which are thought to be violent” (Carey). The quote taken from a survey can tell us that the 80 percent of high school age students that play video games can be connected to the non-fictional aspect of the game by the students committing the crimes or violent actions because of the misconnection between real and fake, so they are then to commit more violent actions in the future. In conclusion that high school age students playing non fictional games will be promoted to violent crimes in future places and
Some people believe that violent video games cause some behavior problems. It is not true; it is only their opinion. Violent video games cause people to start having behavior problems, what was that cause? It is only people; it has no effect on them, only their own action and their weak health issue. The violent video games for computers and consoles’ sale rate went up but violent crime offense went down. Video games are for players to have fun without cause any harm while they playing.
Some people believe that violent video games can cause behavioral problems. This is not true; it is only their opinion. They may say people that play violent video games start having behavioral problems, and what was that cause? It is only people and it has no effect on them, only their own action and their weak mental health issues. The violent video games for computers and consoles’ sale rate went up but violent crime offense went down. Video games are for players to have fun without causing any harm while they are playing. Why do they believe that behavior problems were caused by violent video games? They do not seem to realize that television and movies also have violent scenes. Some examples of popular violent movies include First Blood, Expendables, Dark Knight, Spiderman, and Superman. All action movies have shooting, explosions, and fighting. Horror movies are filled with violence as well, such as Halloween, Scream, and Saw. Horror shows and movie are showing stabbings and serious harm. Even Television shows, like the Three Stooges, Cops, wrestling and America's Funniest Videos! Children's cartoons have violence as well; Disney animated films, Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Watership Down.
I have seen a lot of studies that correlate aggression with video games that say that video games with violence do make kids more prone to violence. My thought on the matter would be age. If a young kid around 6 is playing games where there are guns and murder they are going to be accepting of that. I work with kids in the day care that are school age and I can tell the ones that play the violent video games versus those who play the games that are more for fun learning. As far as it contributing to cause ODD I don’t think the games are internally to blame if they are to blame at all. First on my list is genetics a child's natural disposition or temperament and possibly neurobiological differences in the way nerves and the brain function. So if
The video games perception is somewhat new in this modern society. In spite of they often to be entertaining, the contents have become more violent and troubling as computing technology has become much more advanced. Today, the popularity of violent video games has caused a growth in controversy. Parents and experts feel that some games are just too fiercely, and they request the government to regulate the sales of these games. On the other hand, I completely think violent video games do not cause an expansion in aggression in adolescents is caused by an exaggeration of the effects of violent video games and this plan is indeed pointless.
Most kids play role playing games that have simulated violence. But role playing games with simulated violence have been shown to be bad for kids and their development. In some aspects the violent games can make them more aggressive. In addition there is a quote that states “playing games can and does stir hostile urges and mildly aggressive behavior in the short term’(kegans 2). Although there are no studies that show playing violent video games having the children do violent actions like rap or murder. In an article it states “yet it is not all clear whether, over longer periods, such a habit increase the likelihood that a person will commit a crime (kegans 3).” On the other side lots of people have done crimes and they were connected to be playing violent video games. “James holmes, the sandy hook shooter, adam lanza, They're all described as essentially being addicted to video games(kain,3).” Most simulated games with violence have effects and most kids can maintain what happens.
First things first, video games causing violence is objectively wrong. Mental health and past experiences have to be taken into account when determining the cause for violence. Take Adam Lanza and the Sandy Hook shooting. Lanza was a twenty year-old who was diagnosed with Asperger’s in 2005. According to Pilkington’s article on theguardian, investigators found “photocopies of newspaper articles on shootings of children dating back to 1891” and “a spreadsheet recording mass murders over the years.” It was also stated in the article that Lanza was “obsessed with mass murder.” Pilkington’s article goes on to say that, although Lanza had been diagnosed with Aspergers, “he declined to take any medication for his condition and would not engage
